Cheung Tat Ming Recovers from Cancer

Following a successful live comedy show and participating in a theater performance earlier this year, 48-year old actor Cheung Tat Ming (張達明) has not been seen in the public for six months. It turns out that Tat Ming had quietly battled cancer and is currently on the road to recovery.

Tat Ming’s illness caused him to drop 30 pounds in a short amount of time and experience hair loss in addition to fatigue and weakness.  To focus on his health, Tat Ming stopped attending social events and seeing his friends.

Anthony Wong Confirms Cheung Tat Ming Had Cancer

Although Cheung Tat Ming was tight-lipped about the illness he is currently under treatment for, his good friend, Anthony Wong (黃秋生) confirmed that it was cancer. Anthony said, “I do not know how to explain which type of cancer it was. He (Tat Ming) is fine now and has recovered.”

Asked about Tat Ming’s significant hair and weight loss, Anthony said, “These are side effects of chemotherapy. A person who is ill will be thin. He found a doctor and has recovered completely. He is fine. There is no need for everyone to worry.”

Cheung Tat Ming Assures He is Recovering

Tat Ming sent a text message to reporters to address his current health condition, assuring the media that he is on the road to recovery. Tat Ming wrote, “Thank you for your concern. Since I need to rest, I can’t discuss this any further. I am sick, but I’m also recovering. I am confident that I will get better. Thanks.”

Tat Ming is very discreet when he goes to Causeway Bay for treatment of his illness. His domestic helper accompanies him to the clinic to receive vein cleansing. There were reports that Ming was spotted a few months ago, looking extremely sick and frail. At the time, Tat Ming claimed that his back was hurting, refusing to elaborate further.

Cheung Tat Ming Isolates Himself Away from Others

When reporters went to Ming’s residence in Sai Kung, there were many Chinese blessings pasted on the front door, including notes which read: “The Energy of a Dragon and Horse” [龍馬精神], “Entire Family Safe and Healthy” [合家安康], and “Whatever the Heart Wishes” [心想事成].  All the blessings are related to health wishes.

The reporters also noticed that the second floor did not have any window coverings, which allowed abundant natural sunlight to filter in. Sunshine is believed to aide in recovery. After numerous attempts to catch a glimpse of Ming, reporters were unable to get a hold of him. Eventually the blinds on the second floor went up to cover the windows.

Tat Ming is trying extremely hard to isolate himself away from the public so he can truly focus on his recovery.

    1. Funn,
The significant hair loss is usually a sign of chemotherapy to treat cancer. Oriental Daily quoted Anthony Wong as admitting that Cheung Tat Ming had cancer, which hopefully was discovered early and treated properly.

      1. T think at first he was sorta ambushed and so refused to admit or deny, his friend Anthony and manager as well which explains one article. Probably recently he admitted since it was obvious hence the reversal. He was always so slim, was shocked to see him so frail.
