Yammie Nam Turns to Christianity for Guidance

It is known that former Hong Kong actress Yammie Nam (藍潔瑛) has struggled with serious mental issues for years, turning her hair almost entirely white. After staying low-key on the public’s radar for a few years, the 49-year-old recently hit headlines again after it was revealed that Yammie had been raped two decades ago. Yammie, however, denied her own rape accusations shortly after the information was exposed. Not wishing to delineate the issue, Yammie turned down all interviews.

Yammie made a rare public appearance on December 29. Looking fuller, Yammie was not bothered by the paparazzi waiting outside her home in Stanley. The reporters followed Yammie, who went to attend mass at a nearby Catholic Church. A fellow church member accompanied Yammie throughout to fend off reporters.

The reporters approached the priest about an hour later to ask about Yammie, but the priest claimed that she had already left. The reporters phoned Yammie again to ask for another interview, but she quickly fended them off.

Reporters contacted Yammie’s good friend Mary Yeung (楊曼莉), who explained, “She’s been going to church because the members have been very kind to her.” Mary revealed that a mainland Chinese company had approached Yammie about a cameo in an upcoming film. “The shoot will only be three days long and she would earn 30,000 RMB, but she didn’t seem to be that interested. Maybe it’s because she’s not feeling well. She should rest!”

Rumors claimed that Yammie has plans to move to Shenzhen, but Mary said, “Don’t think so. She has social security assistance in Hong Kong!”

  1. she still has beautiful features, nothing a simple make-over can’t fix. i wish her well 7 all the best. to those who had hurt her…i’m sure their time will come.

    1. yeh well said, and the paparazzi have to leave her alone.the church is the best way for her to heal her wounds.hope she can find s her path again.

  2. She needs therapy and perhaps some religious guidance. I feel like she is in denial or avoiding whatever problems she has.

    1. I also think she is in denial or else she can get better if she really wants to. She can easily enter the circle again and revive her career again. But sadly, she does not seem to want to anymore. Wish her the best.

      1. i think reentering HK yoo lawk hoon is impossible because nefarious entities remain, may be connected to her tormenters or may simply take it upon themselves to destroy an old victim to teach her and others a lesson. Entering yoo lawk hoon would be her inviting them to do something because she would be implicitly submitting to their reign in the jurisdiction of the entertainment industry.

I will never go to Japan because I am antiJapanese and that means I do not effectively validate their legitimacy as a law abiding, democratic, fair government by placing myself under their authority. If the Japanese really felt that China was so awful and unfair, why have they made themselves at home in Shanghai.

30k rmb – is that 5k for three days work? hoo boy

I hope that church offers tutoring for MS Office and English as a Second Language. She could maybe get some secretarial work. But this really throws a bad light on all those really loud dogooder celebs because they should know that she needs money or a boost or a treat.

  3. Her well being is the most important thing at this point . I would tell her to learn this one simple thing ( Be good to yourself even if others are not always good to you )

My Grandmother use to tell me God helps those who help themselves and she lived to be almost 100 .

Either way I believe in Yammie Lam Kit Ying ,she’s much stronger than people realize.

    1. you’re grandmother obviously doesn’t know from ptsd. My mom who should know better damages herself by standing outside for more than twelve hours at a time – from 8 am to past midnight including the strong sun hours – not eating, not taking bathroom breaks, gorging late at night because her husband’s murderers have traumatized her – I can’t get her to take better care of herself and I am watching my family DIE from my father being murdered and then treated unfairly not just by the murderers but third parties including the press.

  4. Poor yammie! The media should leave her alone! Let her live a peaceful life.

  5. I don’t believe in Christianity.they are a bunch if hypocrites.

    1. Because …. you have met with every Christian who turns out to be a hypocrite?

    2. From what I know, isn’t that the crucial point of Christianity: that all are flawed and in need of “salvation”? and one should focus on the Creator instead of the creatures?

    3. i think christianity isnt bad from itself, its the human nature itself that may use it in a good or bad way.

      1. And therefore human nature, or as the Christians called the “original sin” is to be blamed, not the faith.

    4. she may be taking refuge for whatever degree of solace the institution may be able to provide – also (I don’t agree with it) I think that opponents in any war often take up the cloak of religion – Taro Aso is a Christian so is Akihito’s wife or she was raised by Catholics – Ada Choi went from being a scarlet woman to becoming an avowed Christian whereas I don’t really remember Josephine Siao needing to be a professional Christian – I think people like to shore up their self perceived social vulnerability with Christianity even if they are not the culprits but the victims.

      1. I have half relatives who have been longtime members of … The Anglican Church and pride themselves on knowing the lyrics of Christmas Carols – in other words – they’re WHITE but that didn’t do anything for their cluelessness so I think it may be employed as a(n imaginary) weapon against more fobby Chinese like my family but otherwise it’s really … I just block it out if an Asian tells me they are Christian.

Are they really providing a backbone for society, keeping the streets safe? Is this church going to start a rally in Central, Hong Kong against gangsterism in the entertainment industry, against rapists, etc.?

      2. Cleo,

“Ada Choi went from being a scarlet woman…”

So she had a lot of sex before?

    5. Folks, do bear in mind that this person is not me, so don’t assume I am this person if you see me commenting in Jaynestars in the future. We have a similar name but different avatars.

By the way, I agree with this person’s first sentence that I, too, don’t believe in christianity, so don’t mistakenly think I am this person if I comment on a similar issue in the future. This person’s second sentence appears to be inappropriate, though.

  6. I am glad that she seek solace in a catholic church rather than a protestant church.

  7. Let her be, why hound her while she’s no longer in the public eyes. The woman just want normal life, why can’t the press leave alone?

  8. (1)she is still beautiful, more so than many others her age.

(2)she needs to reach closure, or see some justice to validate her suffering. which is probably one of the many reasons for what is keeping her in that mental instability. very hard bec whoever ordered/committed those atrocities on her are powerful influtential folk still there.

    (3) as already mentioned above, even if not to torment Yammi, they still need to maintain their threat factor to show they mean business for others.

    (4) church is a distraction, i don’t see it as the answer. the company of others who at least believe in her is a solace.

  9. I loves Yammie Nam so much. She is a beauty in nature and good in acting. I wished her speedy recovery and may God Bless Her Always. Cheer up, Yammie !
