Yammie Nam’s Lonely Battle

Even though many have expressed concerns regarding her condition, Yammie Nam (藍潔瑛) is slow to accept help and has repeatedly pushed her friends away from her private life.

Yammie’s life is once again under heavy public scrutiny after her rape claims were exposed in mid-December. Many of the discussions centered around her apparent mental instability and her mysterious lifestyle. Despite being a public figure, information about the former TVB artist is scarce and her close friend, singer Mary Yeung (楊曼莉), remains the only reliable source.

Introduced at a party many years ago, Yammie and Mary developed a close friendship that continued through the worst of times. When Yammie was plagued by mental trauma and financial problems, Mary opened up her Shenzhen home to her for seven years. She also managed Yammie’s career free of charge, using her personal time to seek out and negotiate job offers, hoping to turn her friend’s life around.

Several other artists have also reached out a helping hand over the years. According to Mary, both Margie Tsang (曾華倩) and Andy Lau (劉德華) lent money to Yammie in the past, so did retired lawyer David Tsang (曾權威). Actress Lam Kin Ming (林建明) offered work through her mental health charity, and members of the Artistes Christian Fellowship were happy to invite her to gatherings.

Despite her friends’ kindness, Yammie seems frustrated by the stigma surrounding her mental state, and often lashed out at her friends for publicly discussing her condition. Even Mary was at the receiving end of her anger, blamed for sharing too much with the press. Flatly turned away, many decided to give Yammie her space and have gradually lost touch.

When the rape allegations surfaced, some of these friends tried to contact Yammie but were unsuccessful. Yammie also disappeared overnight and was not seen again until December 23. A source later confirmed that she was admitted to the hospital over a benign uterus tumor at that time and was recently discharged. Mary also explained that Yammie is practically unreachable as she changes her phone number very frequently.

Finding solace in religion, Yammie has been regularly attending mass despite her annoyance at reporters’ presence. Seen again at church on December 29, she looks healthier and more alert with her newly cropped and colored hair. Comfortable next to fellow church goers, Yammie seems to have finally found the protection she needs and the people who can accept her free of judgment. Nowadays, she can be seen cleaning and cooking for herself back at her Stanley home, a good start to getting her life back onto the right track.

None of us would want to be put in the spotlight when we fall down in life , how much harder for a celebrity .

I know Yammie is a strong woman and her life will be returned to her . What happened to her is not her fault .

As always I will be watching closely from the United States and wishing her well.

I agree and it is hard to be in the spotlight when we are at the lowest points in out life. I also hope she gets better and can enjoy the rest of her life.

The media should leave her alone. Let her have some space to get well. Have some sympathy please.

What a pity that her meltdown doesn’t involve a fondness for dark lipstick. Maybe she can get a job as a makeover model where she is the Before and After photo – she looks like she would be so much fun to put makeup on.

That’s what my late father told me. Do not lend money, but just give it because money can make or break a friendship.
