Disney Drops Official Trailer of Live Action “Mulan”

Disney’s Mulan has dropped an official new trailer, revealing more characters from the movie.

The stars Crystal Liu (劉亦菲) as Hua Mulan, a young woman who poses as a man to take her aging father’s place in the war. There, she is mentored by Commander Tung, played by Donnie Yen (甄子丹), and befriends a young soldier Chen Honghui, played by Chinese-New Zealand actor Yoson An.

Also starring in the film are Gong Li (鞏俐) as Xian Lan, the film’s main villain; Tzi Ma as Hua Zhuo, Mulan’s father, Cheng Pei-pei (鄭佩佩) as the Matchmaker, and Jet Li (李連傑) as the Emperor of China.

Though regarded as the live action adaptation of Disney’s 1998 animated film of the same name, the new film is said to be a closer adaptation of the original Mulan legend, which came from the 6th century poem Ballad of Mulan <木蘭辭>. The new film will not be a musical like the animation, and will reportedly not feature original characters Mushu and Cricket.

Li Shang, Mulan’s original love interest in the animation, is replaced by Chen Honghui in the live action adaption.

The film is set for a March 27, 2020 release in North America.

  1. No, no it will not be epic. It’s a cheap knock off. Why is she fighting another female? Besides the fact they need GL star power. Let the gd Mulan fend off the HISTORICALLY male-only army darn it.

On the bright side, they used the original song as background soundtrack.
