Song Joong Ki and Kim Tae Ri’s “Space Sweepers” to Release Exclusively on Netflix

After multiple postponements, Korean sci-fi movie Space Sweepers is finally seeing the light of day, but not in theaters. The film, headlined by heartthrob Song Joong Ki and Mr. Sunshine actress Kim Tae Ri, will release exclusively on Netflix in 190 countries around the world. However, they have not announced Space Sweepers‘ release date yet.

Helmed by A Werewolf Boy director Jo Sung Hee, Space Sweepers is Joong Ki’s first movie following his divorce from Song Hye Kyo and second collaboration with Sung Hee. The film is set in the year 2092 when the earth has become a bleak planet and will soon become inhabitable. Joong Ki plays the pilot of Spaceship Victory – one of the many spacecraft that salvage space junk for money.

The spaceship’s captain is played by Tae Ri, who earned a Best Actress (TV) nominee at the 55th Baeksang Arts Awards. Extreme Job actor Jin Seon Kyu stars as Spaceship Victory’s engineer and a former gang leader. And the last crew member is fulfilled by Yoo Hae Jin from the variety show Three Meals a Day. He plays a nagging but uniquely charming robot.

In the film, the four of them discover a 7-year-old girl while canvassing for space junk. They soon realize that she is the human-like robot wanted by space police and decide to exchange her for a ransom.
