Katy Kung and Joey Law Want Sequel to “Hong Kong Love Stories”

Joey Law (羅天宇) and Katy Kung (龔嘉欣) shared their thoughts on the success of the currently airing Hong Kong Love Stories <香港愛情故事> at yesterday’s promotional event for the drama. The two leads expressed their dismay at the positive response and supported the idea of a second season to the series.

Katy exclaimed, “I really want [there to be a sequel]! The whole team filmed together very happily.”

However, she said she hopes there will be zero bed scenes because she’s afraid of intimate scenes. She joked, “I saw everything already, so I’m bored. I don’t want Joey anymore! I’m just kidding. Actually, I know he took to heart that the role of the male protagonist didn’t belong to him at first, but I think the casting was right, so the second season must have him too!”

Joey admitted that he only found out that he wasn’t the first choice for the role a few days ago. He added that he has no idea who the original actor was supposed to be, but he didn’t overthink it, as he did his best to play the role. As such, he is in the running for three awards – Best Actor, Most Improved Actor, and Favorite Male Character – at next month’s TVB Anniversary Awards. Joey frankly expressed that it feels like a dream.

“I don’t dare to think too much, but it is an affirmation for myself,” Joey shared. “My mom sends the [voting] link to people daily, telling them to click my name.”

Meanwhile, Katy also has several nominations for multiple dramas.

  1. Bravo to a fresh casting of new couple on screen. Haven’t watch it yet but I am sure these two are much better than the usual suspects for bringing something fresh and different to the small screen. Katy has been very hardworking lately and I loved watching Joey since the long running sitcom, Come Home Love was it!?

  2. I quite enjoy this series, didn’t think I would but I like the storyline and it’s relatable. Katy’s acting is meh but not terrible (also not best actress lol) and joey’s acting is also average but he’s just so darn cute that you can’t help but like him lol

Brian Tse… he’s playing this cool mysterious type character… idk. I find his acting lacks emotion in serious roles. I only liked him as Tak Q in LW2 lol. Also he looks so creepy in this show. He can’t pull off that scruffy look tbh.

  3. I am really enjoying this series. Neither Katy nor Joey is great, but they are very watchable. She’s so natural and Joey is adorable. I like his mellow calm voice. Plus their chemistry is great. Brian Tse is a total miscast! He just cannot carry off the bad boy role. He doesn’t give off the right vibes and came across terrible. Venus is OK as the sulky photographer. Does she ever have a change of clothes in this series ……?

    1. @summerdale I also love Joey’s mellow calm voice! He talks like that in real life too lol. Brian was OK. His role shouldve been given to Stephen Wong. His dinner scene with the family was hilarious.

  4. Seems like actors and actresses need to come across suitable roles for them to demonstrate their acting skills. These 2 who I don’t normally don’t like watching put on great performances in this series. Katy especially acted very natural and relatable with feelings expressed very well so far. Joey does well as the calm boyfriend. The cast for once turned out to be very solid for a TVB series when on paper it looks extremely thin…

  5. Really enjoying this series. Very refreshing cast, great grounded storyline, good character arcs, and very diverse love stories that are relatable to many people. Definitely one of my more favorite series in recent years. Neither Joey nor Katy are great actors but both did really well in these roles. I think these types of roles suit them well. Not wanting to typecast them but some people can’t pull off certain characters like Katy in Death by Zero which she was awful in. And agreeing with @summerdale ‘s comment above that Brian Tse is a horrible miscast in this series. He can’t pull off the cool look. His role should’ve been given to Stephen Wong Ka Lok instead who Shay (played by Venus Wong) slept with in episode 1. And the younger version of the dad was also miscast. He is too well mannered to play a brute. But all in all, a very solid series. Everyone did a good job. Hope TVB can create more refreshing content and give opportunities for other actors to thrive.

    1. @gnomageddon I didn’t think I would like it so much but I just finished it — definitely one of my favourite dramas this year. I completely agree with everything you said, the storyline was very touching and relatable to me and I think they all did at great job. Minus Brian Tse… a better actor would have brought more depth to his love story with Venus.

      Overall, it was very sweet.

    2. @gnomageddon Totally agree with you that Brian’s role shouldve been given to Stephen Wong Ka Lok, who is underrated. I can’t believe TVB would rather promote Brian instead of Stephen…

The younger version of the mom, Angel Chiang did a pretty good job. She always plays the younger version of the cast. Angel is nominated for best supporting actress this year.

  6. Looking forward to catching up on this series over the Christmas look weekend tucked under the duvet in this chilly winter! I have just finished watching “Iron Ladies”. Loved it! Kevin Chu is so HANDSOME!

  7. I enjoyed this series 100% and the cast as well. The story lines are all relatable and very heartfelt. The writer/s did a wonderful job of telling the story and I teared up in a few scenes. The only story arc I didn’t care for was Shay and Brian’s. Too meh and it felt like the their chemistry was so forced. I also wished it wasn’t 12 episodes so hopefully there will be a sequel. Overall, I really liked this series. Well done to the cast, director/s, and the writers!
