Jessica Hsuan Takes Time to Enjoy Life

Jessica Hsuan (宣萱) is not in a rush to get married and is happy with her single life. The 43-year-old actress believes in choosing wisely and will not get married for the sake of being attached.

In her 20-year career, Jessica has adhered to her principles well and was able to resist temptations in the industry. Aside from being romantically linked with Gallen Lo (羅嘉良) during his first marriage, Jessica’s rumors have been rather unexciting. Perhaps the reason for her healthy public image is that Jessica has remained true to herself. “In this industry, some people’s results are better than mine. Perhaps they feel that they must smooth-talk in order not to offend anyone. But I feel that I should not change my character because of work. A person must have their own purpose and bottom line.”

Jessica has only publicly admitted to four boyfriends – Dicky Cheung (張衞健), Ronald Wing (榮文瀚), dentist Chan Wai Kin (陳緯健) and veterinarian Ruan Bester in the past. Although involved in serious relationships in which marriage was considered each time, Jessica has not found the right lifelong partner to settle down with yet. Others are reminding Jessica that her biological clock is ticking, but she prefers to choose carefully. While some friends are happily married, there are others who have divorced or put up a brave front because of the children. Having done well for herself career-wise, Jessica is taking her time to look for a compatible companion.

Meanwhile, her three dogs and two cats provide good company at home. Jessica chimed, “They can be trusted, won’t betray you, or hurt you. If they’re happy, they show it and if they aren’t, you’ll know. There is no need to fret or safeguard.”

Takes Time to Enjoy Life

Despite her popularity, Jessica seems to be disappearing from the limelight in recent years. However, it is not due to lack of filming offers, but rather, the actress wants to decrease her workload to enjoy life.

“Three friends passed away last year. They were between 40 to 50 years old. There were no warning signs before. Suddenly, I realized that while money is important because you need it to survive, you will never make enough money,”  Jessica said.

In 2001, Jessica suffered from cholera while filming A Step Into the Past <尋秦記>, prompting her to prioritize health over money. While Jessica works hard, she stops for necessary breaks and takes good care of herself. She is currently planning on a vacation to South Korea with several girlfriends.

  1. Jessica is successful, beautiful and rich, I don’t know why it is so important for her to find a man and any news about her is about her relationship status.

      1. I didn’t realise having kids were a “NEED”. We live in 21st Century! Get with it.

      2. i’m in my 30s and i do not see the need to have kids and being married. i rather be happy and healthy than being bitter living with a jerk of a husband/boyfriend and ungrateful kids

      3. Sadly the joy of having apples of your eye you will never experience. But it’s a choice of life. The reason why so many singles are keeping pets, cause something is missing in their life, natural instinct that you can’t deny or resist.

    1. Because a woman at her age with “success, beauty and money” will eventually not need those things, as she ages into a wrinkled old spinster……all woman at her age always tell the press they are enjoying the “single life” but really, only fools would believe that Jessica would not rather have a family and kids like everyone else around her……….Now she is on way to being a true “leftover”.

      1. The only fools around here are people who think a woman’s happiness and “value” in society are dependent on having a husband and kids.

      2. Only fools think every woman needs a man to complete her life or make her happy. Only a fool define her success by having a man and children by her side. Everyone has their own definition of success and happiness, but one common thread is living a life they want. Jessica is living her life, so why does that make her a ‘leftover’? That’s simply rude.

      3. Who said that every woman has to get married and have kids?

  2. If I didn’t know I’d think Jessica and Maggie Cheung Ho Yee are the same person. It’s strange they didn’t get along because they’re so alike. Both brought up in the UK. Came back to HK around the same time. Both blunt. Both rarely have rumors with their costars because they often vow to only date men outside the business. They’re both around the same age, and both just want to focus on living a relaxing life, traveling with girlfriends. Maggie Cheung just came back from Korea and Jessica is going to Korea. It’s time you two girls hang out together.

    1. Both also had issues with each other whilst filming Good Time Brothers.

    2. Both of them are very strong characters so it’s not a good idea to put them together.

    3. both also share same fate of dating men and suddenly break off due to their share strong headed personality of not wanting to “lose”….now as they age, both also accepted the fact that they have to change to soften their personality in order to find mate

      1. Doubt they will change………..both are destined to be old maids.

    4. It’s time you two girls hang out together.

      What a good suggestion!?

  3. Not everyone needs to get married to be happy. In this day & age? (Sometimes a female who has been divorced or widowed does not care to get hitched again. Cook, clean & look after another one…? I have heard of such comments…..Food for thought. )

    1. I can’t speak for everyone, but I’m currently 32 and not married and let me tell you it’s the worst feeling ever. I wish I’m married with kids. I enjoy my work but I’m willing to trade it and get married.

      1. It depends on the person. Some are happier being married while some prefer to be single. I had an aunt that did not get married until she was 43. Kids was no longer possible for her because she became infertile after taking a special medication. But I think she is glad to be married because her parents both passed away and all of her siblings are married with children. She would have been all alone if she did not get married, but she is lucky to be able to find a great guy at her age that did not expect her to have kids or minded her age. But sadly not everyone is so lucky.

      2. @HeTieShou you pretty much sum up why I wanted to get married.

      3. @great,
You are still young so should enjoy being single, there are ups and downs to being married or single just like with anything. Being married has its ups and downs too, especially when kids come along.I have seen it with my own siblings. I am single and like it right now but I know down the road, I would like to get married too. My family is traditional too so my mom does expect me to get married one day,but of course I want to as well so it is not only because she wants me to. You should not get married just for the sake of getting. Marriage should be a lifetime commitment, therefore you should not rush yourself because you feel lonely or wherever reason.

      4. @HeTieShou I feel that at age 32 it is definitely the time for me to get married and have kids. in fact, I wanted to settle down since 5 years ago. I know at this age we all have different views about marriage and it’s okay but for me I wanted to get married younger hehe.

  4. As someone who is married and has 2 children, it may SEEM that it is the perfect life. However, it takes a lot of work especially when children are involved because you and your partner truly need to work together otherwise, it can cause more difficulty for the family. In this day and age, you shouldn’t need someone else to make you happy. Why would you want to get married just for the sake of it, if you don’t find a person who is truly right for you? If you do get married, make sure you are compatible and willing to work through ups and downs. Being single vs. being married with kids both have advantages and disadvantages, neither is better than the other. Just depends on what you want out of life.

  5. I understand that you mean, but sometimes I just feel very lonely when I come home to an empty apartment after a long day at work and not to mention when all your friends are happily married with kids it gets you. Of course that’s just how I’m feeling.

    1. You can try to make friends with people at work or church or join in clubs in the community. That will give you something to do, and it’s a good way to meet people.

    2. You can go out and meet people, make friends, etc… Sometimes when you are not looking the right guy just comes along but when you try to look, no one comes along. I think it is just fate, but of course a part of our destiny and fate is in our hands.

    3. I am also single, financial independent and very happy. It is my choice to be single and I have a few suitors. I’m not ready to settle down and want to enjoy my time. Don’t let anyone or society dictate you need a man and kid to make you happy.

      1. I am guessing that you are still young. If you were older, then your mentality may change.

  6. Many years ago I went holiday in Hk and in Wong Tai Sin temple, bumped into her,Sunny Chan and Louis Koo. Not mistaken they were doing a promotion for a drama or something like that. Sunny was the friendliest and came to chat with the fans and signing autographs, followed by Louis. But Jessica was very arrogant, despite so many fans including me screaming her name, she did not even turn and smile to her fans, she just treated we were invisible much to my annoyance. I heard many of my friends said she was very arrogant but not sure about now.

    1. I have heard good and bad about Jessica but I think it is normal in a sense because who is nice all the time??? We all have our good and bad days. Maybe you saw her when she was in a bad mood??

  7. Wanting to get married and eventually having a family is a matter of preference. I know a number of friends of both sexes who have chosen to remain single and are happy even though they are no longer young. Jessica seems to know exactly what she wants in life and so be it. Her show of arrogance and indifference towards her fans, if it’s true is inexcusable as it shows the lack of manners. Just a smile and wave of hand to show acknowledgment would have sufficed. By the way I’m a great fan of Jessica but I certainly don’t condone such behavior.
