Upcoming Spoilers for “Triumph in the Skies 2”

*Spoilers*

In its third week of broadcast, Triumph in the Skies 2’s <衝上雲霄II> ratings continued to hove over 30 ratings points. The popular pilot series features a large cast, and the character relationships become more intricate this week. Upcoming episodes will focus on the deeper feelings of its characters, mainly Sam (Francis Ng 吳鎮宇) who lost his wife Zoe, as well as Summer’s (Myolie Wu 胡杏兒) relationship with her brother Jayden Koo (Chilam Cheung 張智霖).

The scene which featured Sam’s meeting with Summer, who resembles Zoe, at the airport caused a ratings high with 2 million viewers tuning in. The love story between the bubbly Zoe, also played by Myolie, and Sam in Triumph in the Skies had left a deep impression on viewers. In the following episodes, Sam would meet Summer again. Seeing Zoe’s mirror image in Summer, Sam finally breaks down and reveals his deeply buried words to his loving wife, which he had been unable to express before.

In episode 13 which is aired tonight, Sam is on the hunt for his long-lost pilot manual. He discovered that Daniel, the borrower of the manual, had died in a plane crash. The manual is now with his girlfriend who happened to be Holly (Fala Chen 陳法拉). When Sam realized that Holly has been keeping the manual in remembrance of Daniel, who had planned on proposing to her during a meteor shower, he tore the book in front of Holly. Sam hoped that Holly would learn to let go of the pain and carry on with her life.

In future episodes, the Guardian of Love doll Triangel, which Zoe used to have and is now owned by Holly, will serve to play an important role to clinch the fate between Holly and Sam.

Like Holly, Sam too has a knot in his own heart. He has been living with the regret that he could not see Zoe for the last time before her death. To help his brother get over the remorse, Isaac (Ron Ng 吴卓羲) arranges for Sam to meet Summer in a sidewalk café in England. When Summer suggested to pretend that she is Zoe, Sam could not control his emotions and  between sobs, shouts, “I’m sorry,” and then filled with sadness, watchs as Summer walked away.

This week, viewers will also get to see the cool-headed and aloof Summer break down in tears when her brother, Jayden, lets her down once again. Due to an unhappy experience with her brother when they were children, Summer always bore a grudge against her brother. In episode 15, Jayden tries to make amends when he learns that Summer wants to visit the Engine Exhibition. Promising to help her to get tickets, he insists on accompanying her. Against her better judgment, Summer finally relents, only to be disappointed again when Jayden does not show up.

Summer cries, but fortunately, Isaac is by her side to comfort her. This incident draws the fated couple closer.

  1. sam will cry over zoe again i am looking forward to that
my remember when sam and zoe dated he breaks down when the doc said zoe might die soon

    1. i’m looking forward to that scene too and so will Francis. 😉 gotta get my kleenex ready. 😳

  2. There must be a reason why Jayden never turns up! There must be!

      1. i hope not too. that certainly will not justify his no-show and will deepens Summer’s grudge towards him. nonetheless, looking forward to that scene.

  3. Sam breaking down about Zoe – Most Looked Forward To because Francis won’t fail to deliver

Summer breaking down about Jayden – Second Most Looked Forward To because half expecting Myolie to not deliver all the necessary emotions

Holly breaking down about Daniel – Least Looked Forward To because I’ve no hope of Fala being able to shed heart-wrenching tears

    1. It was bad. Not as bad as the scene where she finds the ring though.

I feel Fala can’t connect with Holly. She looked distracted at times. Perhaps her relationship with her ex-bf in real life played a part.

      1. @Hannah Yes, exactly! I keep thinking Holly is too different from Fala for her to “connect.”

Sometimes, I wonder if she’ll look at Holly and be disgusted that she needs to play such a pathetic fool (when Fala, herself, prob wouldn’t be letting a disappeared boyfriend control her life).

      2. I don’t think Fala can’t connect with Holly – but that she can’t connect very well with the heartbroken side of Holly. Perhaps because it’s too abstract? IDK. She seemed much better and could more easily tear up in her scene with Michelle Yim.

      3. advo,

Hmm. It seems like Fala is ok in other scenes, but when’ she’s opposite Francis, she looks distracted. Perhaps she’s intimidated by him or they don’t really get along.

      4. @ Hannah

Yes, I think so too. Fala said she wasn’t intimidated by Francis in an interview I just saw but I think she was – at least in those scenes. She’s distracted more than distraught, and she has a hard time emoting her heartbreak. But I don’t think all her scenes with Francis are as bad so who knows.

  4. Well, that explained what happened to Daniel. So, we’ll be seeing happy Holly again?

  5. He didn’t show cause of women! I wonder what happened to Daniel….

  6. I really liked this week’s episodes so far since it’s setting up for all the future storylines involving all the romantic pairings. Tomorrow’s episode looks really good with Sam breaking down in front of Summer.

Also, for those that didn’t know, Nick (Coco’s boyfriend) and Victor (Colby’s boyfriend) were both in the original Triumph and they were in the same training program as S4.

    1. Finished watching TIT 1 not too long ago. Don’t remember Nick being in the training program. Stephen Wong – yes – but not as Victor, it was a different name. Wikipedia states that his character was called “Hero”.

      1. I’ve checked Wikipedia and Victor is the same person 🙂

    2. Nice to see Stephen Wong back from the original series – even though he had a teeny tiny almost non-speaking role in the first one. But boy I wish they could tell us what happened to Donald, Zita, and Chris. And wouldn’t it be great if Sam and Issac’s parents were in this show too? They seem to be trying to create that family warmth with Coco living with the Tong brothers – but it isn’t working for me!

      1. omg yes! Sam’s parents were so freaking funny! I miss them!

      2. In the sequel of TITS2 they didn’t tell us what has happened to Belle, Donald ,Zita and chris characters?

      3. You see them in the flashbacks but nothing has been said about them yet. I’m hoping they mention something about them later.

    3. Oh wow! You’re right! Nick was part of the original series. I totally do not remember seeing him in it, which is kind of bad considering I only finished watching TIT 1 two weeks ago. Thanks, AC, for sharing that photo.

      1. I probably still wouldn’t recognize him if I watched the original again. haha. He just looks different? I didn’t even realize he was with tvb for so long!

  7. Daniel borrowed his pilot manual and his plane crashed. Yes, he should tear it up, does not seem like a very good manual.

  8. If they keep giving out spoilers, might as well don’t air the series! Gosh TVB!

  9. I usually try to keep my comments to myself. But after watching the first 10 minutes of today’s episode (13), I really have to say FALA CHEN SUCKS! She cannot produce any tears in her emotional scenes, it looks like she’s laughing. She is in no way connected to her character. Even 10 years ago, when Myolie was a newcomer she did better in her perky role. Fala has experience but she still lacks the skills. I would have been pissed if I had to share many scenes with her too. IMO. Don’t bite me!

    1. I have been reserving my thoughts about Fala but after episode 12 and 13, yes she sucks at acting and breaking down! I feel like strangling her. I’m not surprised if another news come out again about hht failure to break down. I’m more excited for Summer to break down since she will finally let go of her emotion for Jayden after keeping it inside for so long. It sounds like a heartbreak which ended in a bittersweet action by Isaac. I like what I’m reading here, for once TVB manage to write a heartfelt storyline and a nice way for a potential couple to fell in love slowly.

      1. agree! love summer’s storyline more than holly! holly is just annoying and fala’s acting destroyed the mood!

    2. agree! what happen to fala in these scenes? she sucks and basically failed to emote to right emotions!

      1. I see that you are back on again. I guess the temptation to diss on Fala is just too great to take a pass. Lol

      2. Hahaha I personally find fala as holly is not as bad. In fact, it is difficult to act as holly. Summer? Boring. Just like the person who acts as her.

  10. I have yet to be convinced that Holly is worth watching. I was rooting for Fala today. “You can do it! Make me believe you!” I thought. Sadly I was let down majorly. Again. She looked rather confused instead of heartbroken and it was like she was distracted half the time, so you could almost see it in her face that she was thinking about which emotion would be suitable to display according to what her character was going through. She just doesn’t deliver a convincing Holly.

  11. Fala O Fala episode 13 was ur worst attempt mann! Best sec of dat episode was with Michelle u know can almost feel Francis was kinda expecting more from u babe!

  12. Myolie is much better at crying than Fala based on previous series. I’m looking forward for the part where ice cold summer break down and Isaac saves the day. The storyline sounds very sweet.

    1. agree! myolie proved in ghetto2 that she can cry many different cries for different scenes and praised by netizens and media! now can’t wait for that breakthrough emotional breakdown from summer so that we can all forget fala’s disastrous ‘breaking down’ scene that failed horribly!

  13. Wait. Holly knew what happened to Daniel? Then, why wtheck has she been acting that way? I just don’t get how her character is written.

  14. fala is destroying the great series with her failed acting! don’t get her emotions at all! now i can’t wait for myolie to show fala how exactly you perform an emotional breakdown scene! please less holly and more summer!

  15. the media is reporting on how newbie eliza sam did her crying scene better than fala “lead actress” chen.

    1. shows that fala failed in her acting in triumph2. now news also saying that a sub par newbie actress act better than her. this is so sad considering fala already think she’s better off than tvb.

    2. @Nicole: I don’t understand what’s wrong with the director after watching the playback of fala’s crying scene. Can’t make another take? Seriously? And Did Fala feel terrible with her crying scene?! Oh, TVB!!!

      1. I think the director is also fed up by Fala’s inability to cry well but he just keep quiet so as to not harm his own production. How many times you can NG when you have limited time and many more scenrs to take? If Myolie, Colby, Coco, Victor, Sam all can cry and get their touching scenes very well through similar director, something must be wrong with the actress who cannot get the touching scenes done right through the same direction and resources, while others can.

      2. Moon, Im currently interested in how many takes they went through for them to even accept this as the “best”.
They prob went through it tons.

      3. agree with you all. why push blame on the director now when they probably went through tons of takes before even get this ‘best’ take? and fala can only cry after everything wrapped up! no wonder francis also give her advices

    3. @Nicole,
      >>> fala “lead actress” chen <<<

What a joke!!! Makes me wonder how Fala was cast as Holly. So far, Fala has failed to deliver anything but a "Hollow Holly" (without soul), which is pathetic. Fala is far from ready to be “lead actress”. I definitely will "not" be watching any more dramas with Fala in a lead role.

Joey Meng would have been wayyyyyy better as Holly.

  16. If Fala’s ‘nonsensical’ (imho) character is just part of a the supporting cast or not the one of the anchor in the main love triangle, it would still be acceptable.

Let’s hope that they can write in something to hopefully give us a more sensible view of holly or else…

  17. And also hoping that her acting can improve as the series progress further (it’s 40 episodes after all) but this may be more wishful thinking on my part.

TVB should have known better to cast a more experienced lead actress where the other corners of the love triangle are two seasoned actors like Francis and Chi Lam.

    1. Thanks for the videos. Myolie has really come a long way since her gwing days! Her crying subtle, sad is far better, has more feeling and heartfelt than Fala’s crying, I can feel Summer’s pain towards Jayden, but I can’t feel any of Holly’s pain for Daniel. No offense to Fala’s fans who might attack me.

    2. agree! wow great job by myolie! can’t wait for the full scene and can’t wait for isaac being all sweet knight in shining armor come to stay on her side! agree myolie’s crying was subtle but touching at the same time! unlike fala’s fail crying who made many people laugh and cringe instead of feel touched by her!

      1. Jackson, don’t need to be so mean.
You don’t like reading her comment, you can skip it anytime.
I have times disagree with Sel, but I won’t go to the extent of keep commenting to her comments.
Plus from ur name, seems like a guy, so, please just leave her alone

      2. Yes, a guy yes really should be a bigger guy. But it is just tiring! And I guess the best way forward is just to skip her post.

    3. Thanks for the clip!

Really liked the way she acted out that scene. Summer’s character is a person of very little expressions so the tears pooling in her eyes, but no “gwing” face was a perfect method!

    4. Thanks for the clip. Also agree that Myolie conveys the breakdown emotion of the cold aloof Summer perfectly with her subtle tears and doesn’t use her gwing crying. Fala Chen can learn a thing or two from this, breaking down isn’t about constipating your face or wailing hard but it’s how you convey the emotion. Based on the preview I must agree with others, Myolie succeeded in Summer’s breakdown scene and produces a touching moment that makes us feel her plight, but Fala didn’t make us feel her plight with Daniel.

  18. I just found this a bit funny.. but isn’t Fala’s ex also named Daniel? lol awksss

    1. Haha. She could have drawn from her own experiences to make her performance more believable then.

  19. One of Ron first roles was a police no wonder why he gets so many police roles he was a cop with deric wan in golden faith

  20. I was cringing at fala’s crying scenes…. Terrible performance!

  21. Ok, someone remind me — why the hell did TVB cast Fala in the lead role in this series again? I mean, did they honestly think that she would be able to hold her own against such veterans as Francis and Chilam (especially Francis)??

Honestly, Fala has never come across to me as lead actress material — she doesn’t have the on-screen presence nor does she have the charisma, plus her acting has always been mediocre at best. Personally, I’ve never been able to “connect” with any of Fala’s performances and was honestly hoping that this time around, with such a heavy role opposite some mighty talented actors, things would perhaps be different and she would impress me….well, so far, I’m more annoyed than impressed….if this is the best she can do, then seriously, I’m forwarding through all her scenes the rest of the series because, well, honestly, I have very little patience for such nonsense.

    1. I actually think she is lead actress material and has charisma. Just her acting needs to be refined… like a huge brush that can fix the enormous gaps in her acting.

      1. Didn’t you just contradict yourself? Small Gaps are fine. However, when you’re the lead, fixing enormous gaps is not fine. You should have fixed any enormous gaps before the production finished.

      2. No I did not contradict myself because everyone’s definition of leading material is different. When I say leading material, I mean how she looks. She def looks like a main lead, but that does not mean she has the skills to lead. Like Natalie Tong, she does not look like a main lead but does she have the skill set? Yes. Better example, Mandy Wong.. skill set? Definitely. Does she look like a main lead? Nope.

      3. Obviously, not everyone can lead. Henceforth, you need that charisma or x factor to be a leading star. For example, green leaf actors like Evergreen Mak. However, before that you need the acting foundation first. There is a reason why many people suggest TVB putting actors or actresses in supporting roles first before leading.

I don’t think it’s fair to claim someone is not leading material until they’ve actually lead a series. So, it’s not fair to judge Mandy Wong yet since she has not yet lead. I do agree with Natalie not being lead material. However, I don’t think she has a strong foundation of acting skills. I don’t believe I’ve seen her powerfully portray a strong, independent woman yet. Her characters tend to be weak and cry a lot.

Best example is Wayne Lai. Many people saw him as a supporting actor only despite being a great actor. However, he proved that he can lead a series in Rosy Business.

      4. I like Wayne and all , but he has yet shown he can carry a series on his own.

      5. Ugh no. TVB does not hand out supporting roles to trial and error. They give out supporting roles to those who they feel are not worthy of being main leads. Evergreen and Wayne were supporting until they made their breakthroughs and TVB was like “wow. They can make us money because they got the audiences’ attention. Time for them to play main leads.”

If TVB did the whole lets try and give this girl or that boy a supporting role first, Miss Priscilla Wong would not be leading a series back to back.

And lastly, what I said about looking like a main lead… ugh that is all subjective. I am sure others on this site feels the same about Mandy Wong not looking like a main lead but definitely got the skills. And ofc there are others who feel Mandy can do it solely based on her skill set. See, it is very subjective.

      6. @ Hannah

Agree with you. Wayne is an excellent actor – but I don’t think he’s leading material at all. Perhaps he really did give an outstanding in Rosy Business (I can’t say because I didn’t watch it) but Sheren carried NR. And aside from that franchise, where has Wayne proven he could lead?

Fala has the looks. I think she has charisma and screen presence to lead but yes, her acting is very rough. Which means she inconsistent at best, terrible at worst. The problem is that she has the least overall and least leading experience among the leading fa dans, so of course her acting is also least refined.

      7. @ Crystal

Mandy is like the new Tavia but not as pretty. She has reasonable acting chops, but neither are lead material. Tavia is too unrestrained when she’s leading and I see a similar trait in Mandy’s acting. I find most of Mandy’s characters with a lot of screentime very grating, while she works well as supporting.

      8. Thank you advo for understanding what I was trying say.

I agree that Mandy’s career and Tavia’s beginning part of her career are almost parallel. But some believe Mandy to be far better than Tavia. Well, I think both are equally good.

      9. Hannah: How can just one actor/actress carry a series on his/her own? It’s a teamwork with other leads and supporting characters and as long as the main lead stands out, that’s good. Please name me who you think can carry a series by themselves?

      10. ^ I’m referring to just Wayne standing out. In RB and NR, both Wayne and Sheren are th main. But, I felt Sheren led the series. Then, you have Maggie in FH3. I didn’t watch that Bullet series. I don’t know how Wayne did in there. Basically, I have yet to see a series where it’s just Wayne. Maybe it’ll be RB3 where Myolie will compliment him and the focus is on Wayne instead.

    2. I guess they thought Fala could have surprised the audience similar to Myolie as Zoe despite Myolie still being a newbie back then. Too Bad Fala failed to delivered.
Although Myolie was lead in the 1st installment. She still had Flora Chan help her out.

  22. Why keep comparing Fala with Myolie? One started acting years before the other one its only reasonable one acted better than the other given they were never given any professional acting classes. Just enjoy the series as it is

    1. Because Myolie was a newbie when she was the lead character Zoe pairing with Francis and she surprises audience with her enjoyable and memorable performance. Fala was an experienced actress here and she’s more likely to be remembered for her terrible crying scenes now.

      1. But Myolie’s character wasn’t as complex as Fala’s character, it shouldn’t be hard for anyone to portray Zoe let alone a newbie. Her performance wasn’t that memorable or enjoyable, her character was a bit too happy that it was kind of annoying even Myolie said so herself. Holly has a complete different characteristic that Zoe never had which is more difficult to portray. That’s not a valid point to compare the two and degrade Fala for it. And I’m not even a fan of either of them.

      2. Even though Zoe had a very happy go lucky demeanor, she was wise beyond her years. Zoe was very consistent and headstrong rather than indecisive like Belle.

I don’t agree that Zoe is an easy character to portray especially since Zoe was contracted with an illness near the end of the series. Even if Zoe was an easy character to portray, you have to commend Myolie on her ability to create chemistry with Francis Ng. It’s very difficult for a couple to create chemistry together when there’s a huge age gap. Especially since Myolie had such a baby face back then so that widened the age gap even more.

Zoe is one of the most memorable characters of the first installment.

      3. I don’t agree she’s the most memorable neither was Belle. I’m just saying it’s not reasonable to compare her with Fala since they’re different characters the only thing they have in common is that they’re love interests of Francis’s character that’s it. Personality wise they’re way different and it shouldn’t be compared at all and I see no reason to unless some people can’t find a valid excuse just to degrade Fala as an actress. It doesn’t make sense to compare Holly to Zoe at all, it’s like comparing Tavia’s character to Elanne’s character in The Academy series when their characters is different but still served as a love interest to Ron’s character.

It is reasonable to say who’s a better love interest for Francis but not who acted better, there is a huge difference there, it’s not like they’re both playing Zoe.

      4. “Even if Zoe was an easy character to portray, you have to commend Myolie on her ability to create chemistry with Francis Ng”

LOL and chemistry is dependent on one person? What if it’s Francis who doesn’t want to “create chemistry” with Fala? It’s not easy to create chemistry across an age gap? I DISAGREE. Chemistry is first of all subjective, and second, dependent on the how the actors get along. E.g. (unresolved) sexual tension, attraction seem to create good on screen chemistry whereas married acting couple sometimes are a completely devoid of chemistry. I’d say Myolie’s huge admiration for Francis made it very easy to create onscreen chemistry.

        @ Teecee
Although I find Fala not quite adequate to portray the complexities of her character, I absolutely agree on you that any comparison is just a thinly veiled excuse to bash Fala.

      5. It’s actually very hard to create chemistry with a huge age gap with a romantic relationship. If done wrong, the audience would see the couple as siblings or even worse uncle and niece instead. I do agree that great chemistry requires the work of both actors. So, it did prove that Myolie did play a part in the Zoe-Sam chemistry. Admiration does not always lead to Love or equal Love. The Zoe-Sam relationship could have easily stayed as a fan girl admiring her idol which is the worst kind of romantic relationship.

Comparisons have always been done to help an actress improve. Actresses themselves also have certain actresses as idols that they want to have their acting to be like. It’s not bashing.

      6. I do not think comparisons are what helps an actress improve. I think its a matter of actors and actresses closely examining themselves to figure out what they lack and what they excel. If they figure those out, they improve on their own.

I find comparisons to be lacking when used to improve oneself. Cause humans tend to emphasize on the what can this person do that I cant and I will be just like them. That is a problem because it is no longer self improving, thats self deception. Deceiving yourself to be just like that person and better than them but can no longer find themselves.

      7. DISAGREE that it’s hard to create chemistry over a large age gap. Especially when it’ the guy who’s older (because society it used to that) and especially when he didn’t look old at the time. Francis might be noticeable older than Myolie back in TITS, however, he did not look it. Therefore age is not a big deal, just a number on paper. By your own admission then, it’s even harder for Fala who has a bigger age gap with him and Francis has aged noticeably in the last decade.

And nope disagree again that it’s was hard for Myolie to turn her admiration into on screen chemistry. As you admitted, chemistry is two-sided. Myolie’s admiration helped her sell her genuine interest and admiration for Sam, and then it’s up to Francis to show that it’s mutual. Hence creating a mutual chemistry. Therefore, the lack of chemistry between Fala and Francis could be either’s “fault”, but most likely they are both “at fault”. And finally, sometimes perfectly competent actors just don’t have chemistry. If TVB actually relied on casting auditions, then it would have been the casting director’s fault.

And please spare me the faux concern for Fala. If anyone was genuinely interested in “helping” Fala, then they would give constructive criticism instead of making such shallow comparisons. As Teecee articulated very well, any comparison is on the flimsiest basis and therefore not even valid.

  23. Still prefer summer n sam in part 2. Dunno y i find that holiday is a better match with jayden.

  24. Are you guys over the top on ths serial? That stupid Falala just can’t act to save her life. That’s why she resorted to stripping off her clothes to gain brownie points.
