56-Year-old Michael Miu Still Retains Charisma

A member of TVB’s popular Five Tigers in the 1980s, Michael Miu (苗僑偉) has maintained his good physique and charismatic charm at the age of 56. Playing a Criminal Investigations Bureau inspector in his recent drama, Line Walker <使徒行者>, Michael’s charisma withstands when he shares the screen with younger co-stars, Raymond Lam (林峯) and Sammy Sum (沈震軒).  Although he is often praised for his fit figure, Michael surprisingly revealed that he does not have any secret regimes and almost never visits the gym.

Despite the endless compliments, Michael remains humble. He denied that TVB has been lacking talent in recent years and has been calling back veteran actors to help boost ratings. “Thirty years ago, we [the Five Tigers] were the new actors. Thirty years later, we’ve become seniors. When we were still handsome youngsters, we had our own seniors to look up to, but now, we’re old actors. I don’t mind being considered an old actor because the newer artistes will have potential to develop in the future. I feel very lucky to be able to do things that are appropriate for my age. ”

Old TVB Series Are in the Past

Unlike TVB series from past years, viewership ratings for currently broadcast dramas have dropped significantly. Grand production and Anniversary series have garnered the highest ratings in recent years. With Line Walker’s ratings slowly increasing, Michael is already very satisfied and believes that the drama will be able to achieve a peak of 33 points in its finale week.

Michael explained that TV viewership has different trends in today’s technology-driven era, “People who used to watch the 9:30 p.m. show now watch it online at a later time. With unlimited channels around the world, people are watching different shows on the Internet. There are a lot of entertainment choices now, which has definitely impacted viewership ratings. I’m not unhappy. Aside from good ratings, Line Walker’s online viewership is very high. The numbers in Mainland China alone are extremely positive.”

Another major difference between today’s TV shows and series from the past is the idea of concurrent storylines. Previously, TV series in the 1980s only had a single storyline to follow and the focus is usually on one couple. However, having multiple love arcs in a drama is popular and helps guarantee that fans will like at least like one of the stories. If  viewers do not enjoy Michael’s presence, he joked that at least Raymond Lam and Sammy Sum can help save the ratings.

Won’t Stop Kids From Pursuing Acting

Due to their parents’ fame, numerous celebrities’ children have entered the entertainment industry. Maintaining an open and democratic view, Michael has no intentions of stopping his children from following his career path. However, to ensure that his children learn to stand on their own feet, Michael will not bridge connections for them.

  1. I’m the hottest stud now. Karena is on top of me while charmaine is tongue punching my taint.

    1. Hmm, excuse me but you’re not aging very well. You lack the charisma and maturity Michael has.

      1. @mOmO: Because although his comment is unnecessary and childish, he does still have a right to say it. You have a couple of choices: (a) tell him what you think about his comment using whatever language you see fit (and I’m sure people will applaud you if you decide to insert a few expletives), (b) don’t read his comment, (c) read his comment and ignore it. I’d advise you to go for choice (a). Asking for the removal of his comment is basically censorship, which in my opinion, is as (if not more) disgusting as the comment itself.

      1. LMAO!!! He wouldn’t be here commenting, he’ll be busying eating and shopping with Ng.

  2. So proud of him. He haven’t change a bit. He should be nominated & win for TV King.

  3. He looks better as he aged. He’s a lucky guy…and a faithful one too.

    1. I don’t know but I’m taking “and a faithful one too” with a grain of salt..

      1. To: Cynthia

“I don’t know but I’m taking “and a faithful one too” with a grain of salt..”

        Why??

  4. I agree with everyone here Michael still looks good for his age I very much like his acting hope he will continue to film for TVB

  5. Ever since his return to TVB for the Academy I loved him since then. He’s fit, handsome and very lovable ^_^

  6. Yes, I do believe he still GOT IT among those 5 whoever else. I always tell my mom that he looks the yummiest still at his age.

  7. I still can’t believe michael miu is a bad cop too in line walker.

  8. “Michael’s charisma withstands when he shares the screen with younger co-stars, Raymond Lam (林峯) and Sammy Sum (沈震軒).”

Michael is great. Raymond Lam, exactly what is”chok”lol? Sammy Sum is not bad. Be yourself! 😀 🙁 LOL!

  9. Some people look better with age, Mr Miu is definitely one of them.

I kinda like what he said about not to bridge connections for his kids if they want to enter showbiz. If they want to enter, it’s because they are talent and making their own stance, not pounding the pavement mommy and daddy paved.

  10. Nobody in the series can compare to him in terms of acting and charm. He looks better as he ages while some look more and more uncle-ish.

  11. If viewers do not enjoy Michael’s presence, he joked that at least Raymond Lam and Sammy Sum can help save the ratings.

    LMAO!!

  12. Love Michael Miu and his wife Jamie Chik.
He is the most handsome actor ;-).

  13. Hmm, I respect Jayne’s comments a lot but she didn’t mention I am “the least favorite” here. Of course his fans will see me as “the least favorite” here but not her.

And did I mention LF in the posts? I was responding to Raymond’s post.

  14. The drama just went downhill. Doesn’t quite make sense.

How does Michael Miu suddenly turn bad after all, he believes in justice!? And, how did Oscar die when he could’ve been taken to a hospital rather than lay on the couch bleeding?

The script-writers kinda messed up after episode 25.

And even if they explain everything in the final episode, it’s going to be all cramped up and jam-packed.

    Tiger head, snake end………

    1. Nowadays hk dramas tends to rush things towards the end and end it abruptly.

No head no tail says it all.

    2. I’d say the descent began from after ep 15. Some good parts after that, definitely, just as there are some good parts 25 onwards. But the downward trend began when foon hei didn’t step up as the villain he was hinted to be. By then, halfway through the show, the buildup of the hung ying arc and the tension surrounding foon hei character seemed for nought and the show lost steam. Instead it focused too much on romance for my liking.

      1. Yep.. It would’ve been better if they erased some of the love scenes and maybe even some humor parts. They could’ve added more scenes which are suspenseful.

ROE did a better job in creating more suspense despite the mediocre acting…..

Music is a important element to the series and they kept on using that subsong….. They should’ve replaced it or recorded another subsong.

    3. No, Ep 30 and 31 is brilliant. I love it although I agree some parts after 25 is a bit slow. But 30 and 31 made up for it.

      1. I have yet to watch the ending but from what I heard so far, the ending was rushed. And Fei H. was a UC. MAKES NO SENSE LMAO!!

  15. The serie is sooo good … however have a feeling the finale will be a huge disappointment

  16. C’mon cheuk hoi u goona b d devil or d guardian angel huh!!!!!!!!!!!! U r awesome anyways!

  17. Andrew, I am a raymond fan. But Somehow I love your comments. Crack me up every time

  18. I thought he’s around the same age as Andy Lau. I think he look so much better now than before.

    1. Andy Lau is 53 and Michael Miu is 56. However, I think Michael has aged better than Andy.

      1. Andy Lau wants to think he is still a siu sang, but Michael Miu is willing to accept that he is a middle-aged man.

  19. Michael Mui is so handsome. He is like this shining star in all his series. Ok, I am fan..hehe

  20. forever the best Chor Lau Heung. Also the best looking one as well. He look better as he aged.

    1. I disagree. No one defines chor lau heong like the original actor adam cheng. Same as luk xiu fung is defined by damien lau.

      1. I also liked Adam Cheng’s “Chor Lau Heung” better.

      2. It’s all come down to preference. I like him the best as chor lau heung and yang kang. Whenever think of Adam cheng always think of Ting hoi…

      1. Chor lau heong character should be cast by LF. He really got those wuxia elements

      2. Nah LF is cute but not charming or handsome enough to be Chor Lau Heung.

      3. LMAO!! He can act as the failure version of Chor Lau Heung. And I believe there was no plastic surgery centuries ago right?

  21. He is not my fav from the “5 tigers” but have to say he has aged very well. My fav from the 5? Tony Leung 🙂

  22. Michael mui might be a surprise winner at this year tvb anniversary

  23. Noticed that almost all celebrities or famous children usually dont inherite their success or good looks from their parents.

  24. i loved watching michael since the roles of chor lau heung from the new adventures of chor lau heung and legend of the condor heroes Yeung Hong i thought he brought out the role really well

  25. i been a fan of his and a female star from the 80’s barbara yung mei ling to bad shes not around any more i enjoy their actting when act as a pair .
he acts as a bad / evil or nice man really well

  26. Well in line walker Michael Miu its so sexy with his tan skin omg his a super hot ….love love him …

  27. Brilliant. The series is just brilliant. Love Line Walker.

  28. I saw the ending in Line Walker, Michael character is so admirable. Make me admire him more!!!

    1. Yes agree. But it is like his character from the beginning of the show, which is why it would not have make sense if they made him turn bad.

  29. Saw last episode , Michael miu deserve a nomination for BA.final two hours got movie standard

    1. He did pretty good. But, I knew he was good and a UC only. The media exposes spoilers…

      1. Pao seed & sister ding deserve a spin-off to movie version

      2. Although I know he will venture into movies, I don’t think he will act for TVB again lol.

    2. Yes, for sure. He is very good. The character Cheok Hoi is very admirable

  30. Read my 11 points of the finale in the other Line Walker thread. Still many confusing points and questions unanswered.

  31. Pao seed’s character remind me of city hunter’s Ryo saeba. Funny , perverted, chok, brave& loose cannon

    1. The final ending really mo lei Tao, where pao seed buy condoms & make love in ambulance

      1. i guess they are only trying to inject some humor, but not very appropriate.

        But nevertheless, love this show.

      2. Ridiculous! As if any people in their right minds would do that with the driver just right next to them and someone could walk in on them any minute. Just trying to inject some cheap sleazy humor.

    2. You are right, the ending was humorous but didn’t fit into the overall mood of the drama. The drama should have a thrilling, suspenseful, or even tragic ending.

The episodes after 25 really destroyed the series, although the plot is decent.

Not sure if it can pull off best drama but it is one of the better series this year.

  32. Micheal Miu is always understand and sensible. He can see situation clearly and he always support the youngsters. I like him.

  33. He is incredible in Line Walker. He deserves to be TV King. Hope he will be nominated & win for Best Actor in TVB Anniversary Award 2014.

    1. Unfortunately he will be overlooked and shut out of the top 5 to make room for undeserving actors.. He deserves the nomination over Kenneth and Wayne.

  34. Everyone did a great job in Line Walker. Michael did an awesome job. He’s so chok.

    Best Actor: Michael Miu
    Best Actress: Charmaine
    Best Support Actor: Sammy
    Best Series: Line Walker

  35. I still remember Michael was a C grade actor back in the 80-90’s. He really got his shot on bigger roles within these years or you can call it his middle-age. So far he’s doing an excellent job keeping himself in good shape as well as acting.

    1. True, in his younger days, he was considered mediocre. He’s better with age.

  36. Michael is still soooooooo charming & attractive in every angle! Supporting him for tv king..Michael add oil!!!

  37. Michael is handsome, Benz Hui is outstanding, that’s all I have to say about Line Walker.
Best series of the year, no .. far from it. Scriptwriters stretch his imagination and capability too much, acting of most actors are inconsistent. The whole series went downhill after the death of FonHeiGuo.

  38. I think it is one of the better series since Mclub. The ending could’ve been better.
And even if there was no “perfect ending,” (BTW DIRECTOR, I wouldn’t call it perfect ending. I’ll say HAPPY ENDING), I doubt the regretful ending will be that regretful.
I know Uncle Ray and a number of artistes wanted the ending to be regretful because they wanted people to remember it.
If that’s the case, I don’t think having them ending up together would make the ending “perfect” nor regretful. Probably death is needed for a memorable ending.

    1. IMO M Club is boooooring once the nostalgia factor dies down. The constant repetition of the cover versions of “I will Survive” and “Girls Just wanna have fun” test my patience. The plot just goes round and round in circles…fate of dance studio….dance competition…rehearsing for dance competition….giggling school girls….fate of dance studio…so long winded! Should have ended it at max 25 episodes. Sorry to have digressed.

      1. I thought I would hate it too after ROE! But after watching a few episodes, I liked the mature woman series LOL.

For me, the nostalgic didn’t break down at any point in the drama and hence I got hooked into it.

The familiar but yet fresh faces also have HK dramas a breathe of fresh air.

      2. Acting in M Club was good, but the story developments were quite repetitive. It was dragging quite a bit.

  39. My grade for Michael Miu’s acting in the drama:

    B+

He could’ve been more evil during the last few episodes. His look wasn’t as evil as King Sir or Foon Hei. And, his role and expressions reminds me of his past role in Highs and Lows. Hence, B+ is an adequate grade.

    1. Please go to [“Line Walker” Spoilers: Character Deaths Break Records] to read my review of Uncle Ray’s performance in the drama.

Charmaine’s review will be posted tomorrow.

    2. Michael Miu’s acting has always been decent only, never really amazing.

    3. I think Michael improves a lot in LW compared to his mediocre acting in all his other dramas. Of course he’s not as good as Benz, but he did very well in LW as Cheuk Sir. He’s better than Raymond Lam for sure.

  40. Michael Mui is Hong Kong version of George Clooney…better with age.
