8 Upcoming JTBC Dramas to Put On Your Radar

South Korean cable TV network JTBC has rolled out some mega-hit dramas this year, including Itaewon Class, The World of the Married, Mystic Pop-up Bar, and 18 Again. Dominating ratings and actively competing against major broadcasters, JTBC is raising viewer expectations every year and 2021 is certainly no exception.

Here the following eight dramas to air during the first half of next year:

Sunbae, Don’t Put On That Lipstick

Adapted from a popular web novel of the same name, the older woman and younger man romance drama stars Won Jin Ah and Ro Woon. The story revolves around the budding romance between a senior and a junior at work. Although the senior is uninterested in younger men, she eventually helplessly falls in love with the passionate junior, thanks to his cute and sexy charms. Their romance story is drawing great curiosities, especially with the release of the latest poster, featuring Jin Ah and Ro Woon sharing an unforgettable kiss in the middle of the road. The series is expected to air in January.

Sisyphus: The Myth

Starring Jo Seung Woo and Park Shin Hye, the sci-fi fantasy drama tells the story of a genius scientist who hides his identity from the world and a “savior” who goes down dangerous paths to find the scientist for answers. The main leads previously collaborated on Love Phobia in 2006, so their reunion is making fans jumping in excitement. Sisyphus: The Myth is expected to premiere between February and March.

Freak

Rising star Yeo Jin Goo will be teaming up with veteran actor Shin Ha Kyun to send chills down viewers’ spines as they fiercely pursue a serial killer in Freak. Going all out for the chase, they break laws and principles that eventually even lead them to question who the real monsters are: Is it themselves or the killer? Thought-provoking and psychologically thrilling, the drama strives to explore the multifaceted sides of humans and reflect on good versus bad.

Monthly House

Coupling up for a drama about real estate, Kim Ji Suk and Jung So Min play a CEO of a real estate investment company and a magazine editor, respectively. While the CEO is keen on buying homes, the editor comfortably enjoys living in her rented home. With the words “buy” and “live” sounding the same in Korean, the production team is hoping to “convey a high degree of empathy and comfort to viewers and discuss everyone’s different values of a home.”

Undercover

A remake of the British BBC series of the same name, the law and crime drama delves into the fight for human rights and justice against realities of power. Led by Ji Jin Hee and Kim Hyun Joo, the former plays a secret agent who has been hiding behind another identity while the latter portrays a human rights lawyer who becomes the first female head of the Senior Civil Servant Corruption Investigations Unit. This is their third collaboration.

Fly High Butterfly

The cast includes Kim Hyang Gi, Daniel Choi, and Oh Yoon Ah. Set in a hair salon, a positive and motivating story is told by hairstylists and trainees as they strive to turn customers into dazzling butterflies. The slice-of-life drama aims to illustrate the importance of self-care and self-love as they focus on people with love and those starting to make efforts to love themselves.

Snowdrop

Snowdrop generated publicity during the casting process, so it is a highly anticipated work, especially since it stars Blackpink‘s Kim Ji Soo, Jung Hae In, Kim Hye Yoon, Yoon Se Ah, Jang Seung Jo, and Jung Yoo Jin. Set in Seoul in 1987, it tells the story of Im Soo Ho (played by Hae In), a male university student who suddenly barges into the female dormitory fully covered in blood. Despite the consequences, the kind student Eun Young Cho (played by Ji Soo) hides him and nurses his wounds.

A Person Similar To You

A drama about betrayal and corruption, it stars Go Hyun Jung, Shin Hyun Bin, Kim Jae Young, and Choi Won Young. It tells the story of Hee Joo (played by Hyun Jung) who has tried to put her poor days behind after becoming a successful painter. With a stable career, marriage, and family now, it seems Hee Joo is set for living the rest of her life comfortably. However, things take a turn when she meets a woman who lives a similar life to her past.
