Artists at 2011 Next Magazine TV Awards
The winners of the 2011 Next Magazine TV Awards were announced today. Donnie Yen Chi Dan was the guest of honor in delivering the awards to the recipients at the ceremony. Numerous artists, including Charmaine Sheh Si Man, Wayne Lai Yiu Cheung, Moses Chan Ho, Bosco Wong Chung Chak, Tavia Yeung Yi, Fala Chen, Him Law, Joyce Tang Lai Ming, Natalie Tong Sze Wing, and Sire Ma Choi attended.
Following are the top ten television artists who received the 2011 Next Magazine TV Awards, in order of popularity: (1) Charmaine Sheh; (2) Wayne Lai’; (3) Sheren Tang; (4) Moses Chan; (5) Tavia Yeung; (6) Linda Chung; (7) Bosco Wong; (8) Raymond Lam; (9) Fala Chen; and (10) Natalie Tong.
Him Law received the Male Artist With the Best Career Outlook Award. Sire Ma received the Female Artist With the Best Career Outlook Award.
Following are the top ten television programs recognized at the 2011 Next Magazine TV Awards, ranked in order of popularity: (1) Can’t Buy Me Love <公主嫁到>; (2) No Regrets <巾幗梟雄之義海豪情>; (3) The Mysteries of Love <談情說案>; (4) The Rippling Blossom <魚躍在花見>; (5) Kitchen Diva Louisa <和味蘇>; (6) A Fistful of Stances <鐵馬尋橋>; (7) Beauty Knows No Pain <女人最痛>; (8) Fun With Liza and the Gods <荃加福祿壽>; (9) Men of Justice <法網群英>; and (10) Ghost Writer <蒲松齡>.

Jayne: Surprised by Natalie Tong and Sire Ma making the awards list. In my opinion, Fala Chen should have been at tenth place; she appeared at promotional events almost on a daily basis in Hong Kong and was loved by advertisers and the audience alike. Anyhow, expect Natalie and Sire to be promoted in 2011 by TVB!
Since votes are no longer publicly revealed, there is room for winners to be decided by political reasons. Likewise, the top ten television programs also make me question…did ATV throw in their weight for “Men of Justice?” Although it was a good series, many people have not watched it.
I’m surprised with Raymond’s ranking-#8? I thought with his popularity, he would be ranked higher in the top 10. I was surprised with Natalie making the cut for top 10 too. I would think Myolie would be in top 10 instead, Natalie would get best outlook female artist. I also thought Rippling Blossom was aired too recently to be in the top 10. Isn’t this for series or programs aired last year? And lastly, I think usually they try to include one program that is not from TVB in their top 10. I think considering the ratings and overall good word of mouth for ATV’s “Men of Justics,” it was probably one of their more successful series last year even though ratings were no where near those of TVB’s.
Oh, and what did Joyce Tang win? Or was she accepting the award on behalf on “Beauty Knows no Pain”? Congrats to all the winners!
Wait a minute-did the voting end just recently or before his news with Pan Shuang shuang came out? I’m wonder if those news affected his votes?
@Aly, from the daily news reporting and the sale of Raymond concert tickets, he definitely should have ranked higher than #8. Since Next Magazine published the Mavis bed photos, I wonder if Raymond has had a disagreement with them, thus lowering his final rank.
Made a mistake in my initial editorial comment about Fala not being in the top 10. She was at #9, which I overlooked in my haste. As for Myolie, I keep reading in tabloid magazines that HK netizens do not like her much, complaining about her acting and looks.
I do believe that TVB pulled some strings on the Next Magazine award results to further promote Natalie and Sire Ma.
I still can’t hold my laugh on the picture they used in the mag for LF :). It looks so… funny.

the reason Raymond ranks lower is because he has been affected by the scandal.
its not that Next doesnt like him, they are a magazine company, they have to report whats on hand, if they dont, someone else will.
i dont think they can pull strings or i am certain their promoted artists like Raymond and Myolie would show up higher on their list.
Raymond has got to be affected some by the news, i saw alot of disapproving comments for him at one time(dont be offended, i am just telling from observation) and some other ppl turn the other cheek. we all seen it here too so its just a matter of popularity and news like this affect anyone regardless how popular. if Mavis never got discovered, i think Raymond would rank higher. the readers submit the vote so these readers was too distracted to cast for Raymond. its a miracle he still made it so i think this shows his popularity only took a small hit.
i noticed Myolie is not that liked in HK. i dont know what else to say.
Sire Ma gained some interest after the sitcom with Ron. she does have fans.
Natalie Tong definitely got attention from audience after AFOS.
its just a matter of current wave popularity and it is often changing.
@ keeper: Next’s voting time is ended before the scandal is exposed so I don’t think the scandal has any job in this.
Myolie is liked in HK after her mainland series with Hawick Lau is aired and you can see that in TRB, she is the only one who is praised while the rest is criticized by the magazines.
And if it’s AFOS’s effect, where is Kenneth?
I liked Sire since her MHK days, but after watching her in her the sitcom with Ron, I decided that her acting was almost believe average and she is rather emotionless in delivering the role. Yes, it’s her first time onscreen, but I always thought that since she had passion for acting, her talent would be greater than what she offered.
in TRB, i saw the most praise going to Julian and the reason most ppl bothered with TRB to begin with. i didnt see any magazines criticizing everyone but Myolie? you’re really overrating her but if you like her and feel offended, i can understand. sure, you can say she is as popular as you want in HK. even Jayne gets the same impression, we just say what we see.

Natalie Tong was definitely spotlighted and noticed more than Kenneth. she got more publicity and news on herself from it. her award propel her name out there more notice and public eye. maybe he and myolie will make it next time, dont worry about it.

I’m not fan of Myolie but I really saw she is praised in the magazine. Myolie’s fame is really fell in 2009 and 2010 but from the beginning of 2011, it soars. As this Next is voted in 2 weeks of early March, 2011 will have the effect to the result, if it’s really based on the votes.
Another fact to prove that Myolie is still be loved in HK is income. Her name is still in top 5 of best eaner in 2010. If she is that unpopular in HK, the sponsors won’t find her to endorse their products. Same to Bernice. You don’t see her on screen but she is still ranking high.
And if according to your poll, Chilam should be in the list? Where is his name? :P.
I am also shocked that Raymond is only ranked 8th and Charmaine as #1?? I am guessing it is because she starred in Can’t Buy Me Love and that was the most popular series.. I wonder if the Mavis Pan ordeal affected his ranking??

Agreed. That red dress gave her completely no figure. And those red straps near her ankles don’t help with anything, only adding to the weird dress. Matching the outfit with white heels look odd to me too.
I thought it was just me but what the heck was Charmaine wearing??? Gosh is that dress ugly!! I liked Tavia’s dress more. Fala’s dress was not that great either but way better than Charmaine’s dress. What is the up the those little orange rings at her ankles?? That did not add any glamour either..
Tavia and Linda had nice dresses, Fala had this weird eygptian thing going on, which the arm thingy and her dress…but I like her new hair cut. Charmaine dress was a nice colour though, but recently a major events she hasn’t been wearing the nicest dresses…except for the award show. Tavia wears the same kinda of dresses all the time in my opinion nothing that special, but she looks good in them. I know there is not picture here, but Linda looked really good, I really liked her dress and hair. Sire Ma’s dress also pit her nicely and the colour(I’m canadian, that’s how we spell color) was very nice.

I’m happy with this, my favorite actors are all there!! Weird how Natalie Tong is there. Ray should have definiatly been in the top 5, it’s totally Next Magazine not liking him, maybe he didn’t give them a exclusive interview or something after his incident. I mean 2010 was a huge year for him. At least he should of switched with Bosco, what good dramas was he in 2010? Seriously? Fala Chen and Linda Chung!! My fav new fadan, though Fala should be higher as well…she should of beat Bosco…I mean she got an AWARD for acting this year…he wasn’t even there…Natalie deserve the acknolegdement, but she can’t be that popular?(yet). Congrats to all the winners, but must I say that I was most suprised about Natalie.. I like her, but I thought that either Steven, Myolie, Raymond Wong or Kenneth would be in the top 10..
there has to be timing for popularity to happen, while your perception is those ppl would be up there but in reality is its about HKers current tastes and they opted for others. no one is set in being liked, TVB inside and outside is different.
Steven Ma is my favorite actor but he lacks attention and a standout role from audience right now. sigh, its not like what it used to be.

Although Natalie Tong won the Most Improved Award I don’t find her fanbase increasing much and her acting is still sub par. I hope I’m not the only one find this quite baffling.

I agree, tavia also wear dresses that matches her whole figure/face very well.. a pleasure to the eye, she never disappoints me to events like these. As for Fala’s haircut, I think it’s a disaster, it makes her face look very boney as if it weren’t to begin with, very skeleton like. I prefer her in that pony tail and side bangs haircut I still think it will suit her role in the upcoming laughing gor series D: Oh well though. Hope she either let it grow after or have a better shortcut hairstyle. I don’t really like Charmaine’s dress and hairstyle like that either!

I’ve been watching ONLY YOU lately, I think that girl acting with Ruco Chan is quite ok too… Natalie had been promoted for a while from now, but I just still don’t feel for her =(
I’m not a big fan of Natalie either. She’s pretty, a decent actress and appear to be a nice girl in interviews. No reason not to like her. But, somehow, I just don’t.
But, compared her to Macy Chan (the girl acting with Ruco), I still prefer Natalie Tong.

OMG! Charmaine’s hair is horrible. Why did she copy cat Tavia’s hair style. Since Tavia changed her hair from shoulder length to short it seems other actress do the same.
And in the picture Charmaine looks so ugly and old. Even though Joyce dress color is boring but if you look at her face she is older than Charmaine and Fala but she looks for fresh and younger than them.
Her hair was because of filming that series with Raymond. And short hair takes time to grow, even actresses are human, they can’t just magically say LONG HAIR and long hair it shall be. Why not say Tavia copied Myolie? Or Myolie copied Tavia? Or Tavia copied Jess in her younger days?
And Charmaine may be ugly and old, guess who’s laughing all the way to the bank? I think some of the other actresses would wish to be in her position right now.
