Donnie Yen to Star in Hollywood Film “Golden Empire”

Hong Kong actor Donnie Yen (甄子丹) is slated to star and produce the Hollywood film Golden Empire, which he will co-produce alongside Starlight Media founder Peter Luo. Some of Luo’s credits include Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark and Crazy Rich Asians.

Golden Empire is about a Chinese drug lord who is wanted by both the U.S. and Mexican governments. It is the first cartel film to star an Asian lead.

Best known for starring in the Ip Man <葉問> film series, Donnie has also made a name for himself in Hollywood. He starred in Rogue One, XXX: Return of Xander Cage, and the upcoming live-action adaptation of Disney’s Mulan.

Donnie has also signed on to star as Wei Shen in the upcoming Sleeping Dogs, adapted from the 2012 video game name of the same name.

  1. What a nice leap for Donnie. Not a fan of his, but happy to see more representation in Hollywood despite current political climate.
