Faye Wong Debunks Li Yapeng’s Cheating Rumors

On September 18, Faye Wong (王菲) made an official statement on Weibo to clarify the on-going rumors regarding her divorce from ex-husband Li Yapeng (李亞鵬). Faye emphasized that no third party was ever involved and that their decision to separate was mutual and amicable. The former couple also vowed to continue their support for their charity organization, and appeared civil and friendly in their online exchanges.

Ever since Faye and Yapeng publicly announced their divorce on September 13, gossips spread quickly regarding reasons behind their separation. Some believe that Yapeng was cheating on Faye with mainland actress Miao Pu (苗圃), who was caught sharing meals and holding hands with the married man. Others speculate conflict between Faye and her mother-in-law. Still others pointed fingers at Yapeng’s failed business ventures, saying that he has lost nearly 100 million RMB from investments in real estate, his production company, as well as his musical project.

Although his reputation went downhill overnight, Yapeng refrained from making any public comments and only addressed the press with a smile. Meanwhile, Faye appeared solemn and teary-eyed when reporters caught up with her at the Beijing airport. Sources claimed that Faye has been reciting Buddhist sutras every night since her divorce, and has even traveled to India to seek advice from religious leaders. Her actions prompted speculation that she is planning to give up all of her worldly troubles and possessions to pursue the peaceful life of a Buddhist nun.

In order to quickly stop the spread of false reports and to help salvage Yapeng’s public image, Faye broke her silence on yesterday to debunk some of these popular myths. She wrote, “I was the one who wanted to divorce. There is no third party. There are no conflicts with my mother-in-law. This also has nothing to do with financial problems. This is not some typical, melodramatic tragedy. We have separated in peace, and have chosen to get along in another way. To our children, we are still a family. Thank you Li Yapeng for tolerating all of this with love and a rational mind. I am grateful”. Faye added that she will continue to support the Smile Angel Foundation, a charity she founded with Yapeng that aims to help children suffering from cleft lips and palates. She also flatly denied plans to become a nun.

Thankful for Faye’s words, Yapeng re-shared her statement on Weibo, adding, “My child’s mother… I will love you forever!”

  1. Two people do not get divorced all of a sudden for no apparent reason, there is always a fault factor. For a woman, it is almost always cheating on the part of the man. For man, almost always a third party. Or could be issues about money. So I don’t believe this debunking.

    1. Heard over the years that the hubby has lost a lot of Faye’s money in many poor investments and projects that just never showed any returns…..at some point, she had to pull the plug cause this guy was just going to drain every cent she has until there is nothing left……..

    2. I wonder why people always think that just because a couple divorces that it is because the guy cheated on her?? Women can cheat as well so it is not like they don’t at all. Also, it may not necessarily always be cheating. Besides money and cheating, there can be many other reasons why a couple divorces. They can fall out of love, grow distant, have different goals in life that have changed ever since they first met, and so many other reasons since reasons how any 2 people split and drift apart are endless.

      1. Hi HeTieShou, I agree with you. It’s not always 100% cheating. Some couples do fall out of love after being together, they could be better off as friends then being a married couple.

But, for asian ppl most of them still prefer to be married (stay under one roof) eventhough they may be sleeping in different rooms. I’ve heard some of my friends still remain married eventhough they’ve been sleeping in different rooms, and some ignore each other like another tenant. They still remained married well the reason given is for the children. I think finances are also one of the reasons, I dont know whether the children are happy as I’m sure they’re not blind & they could the tense or the difference between their parents & others parents.

Therefore, divorce really needs a lot of courage to a lot of ppl. Some ppl dont want to restart their life nor they want change as they’re afraid of changes.

      2. I don’t agree with Bloom that as Asians, they still remain married even though sleeping in different rooms.

His friends are not representative of Asians in general, and his opinion is only his, and his alone.

    3. Who care what you believe or not believe. Faye already come out and defend Li Yapeng and vice versa. They trying to go through this divorce as amicable as possible and remain friends for their children…so I said good for them.

  2. There’s always a reason to a divorce, especially if there is a kid between the couple. why do celebrities divorce all the way they like, have they not thought of their children? Kids, no matter how tough they are, will always want to live with both parents

    1. >>>Kids, no matter how tough they are, will always want to live with both parents

If a relationship is thriving, that is a healthy role-model relationship the kid should experience.

If a relationship is one where parents are always arguing, at cold war, emotionally abusive/manipulative, it will be actually better the kid does NOT continue being exposed to this. It teaches dysfunctional unhealthy relationship patterns and expectations.

  3. @ passer by
I totally agree with you. If the parents aren’t getting along and are emotionally uninvolved and used their children as punching bags please have the decency and love to free them from this unhappy environment before they become mixed-up big time with too many hangs-up.

  4. Even if it’s true that her husband cheated, she’s not going to admit it cos it’s always hard for the woman to accept this fact, let alone publicly admit it to the whole world.

    1. True but I still wonder why everyone always blames the guy for cheating??? Strange and it is not like there aren’t other reasons why a couple drifts apart.

      1. Exactly, I guess a lot of ppl dont know that there are more women cheat these days. You’ll be surprised.

  5. Her statement does seem a bit odd given reports of their behaviour soon after the divorce.

She was in tears and solemn… he was out partying at karaoke bars surrounded by women.

Does that sound like a situation where she was the one to break off the relationship?

Just compare it to the situation of Myolie and Boscoe where we know Myolie was the one to break it off… Bosco took it pretty hard… and yet this guy was dancing the night away.

    1. No one knows for sure except the parties involved, but each person do have their own ways to overcome grief or celebrate happiness.
Faye may be in tears because even though she’s the one to break-off, she still cherishes the person she had loved as a husband. Prolly the person she love has changed with time, but she still remembers him as he was when they were still in love.
As for the ex-husband partying, he may be either celebrating his freedom with friends or prefers to forget about the unhappiness by surrounding himself with people.
Most of the time, we can’t even say we know ourselves 100%, so how can we be sure what others are thinking/feeling?
Just hope they can both move on now that they’ve reached a decision and their amicable parting will lessen the negative impact of their divorce on their children.

    2. For a man who comes across as putting family first in all aspects, including his career in second, it is hard to imagine what you said about him partying the night away.

He also put in his weibo that he values family but this is not to be.

  6. do the original Chinese posts come off as yuk mah (flesh numbing) as the English translation? omg!

  7. Divorced or no divorced, married twice or even thrice, Faye Wong is still my diva.
