Faye Wong Escapes to Hong Kong to Avoid Ex-Husband’s Birthday

In mid-September, Faye Wong (王菲) and Li Yapeng (李亞鵬) announced the end of their eight-year marriage. In order to avoid her ex-husband’s birthday celebration, which took place on September 27, Faye flew back to Hong Kong, where she took up temporary residence with good friend Vicki Zhao (趙薇).

According to reports, Yapeng had still wished to reconcile with Faye after their divorce was announced. During the Mid-Autumn Festival, he brought daughter Li Yan (李嫣) to have a reunion meal with Faye, but the latter refused to go back on their decision. In order to convince Yapeng to give up, Faye deliberately left Beijing on his birthday and returned to Hong Kong.

Faye Met with Lawyer and Doctor in Hong Kong

On September 27, Faye was spotted at Hong Kong International Airport with three large pieces of luggage. From time to time, she would grasp her lower back as if in pain. It was reported that she had accidentally pulled her back while sorting out her luggage the day before. The pain was so severe that her assistant had to help her in and out of the car.

When reporters asked about her back pain, Faye good-naturedly said that it was nothing, but she immediately became silent when the questions turned to the topic of Li Yapeng. “Don’t ask! I won’t respond!” was her only reply.

Faye’s first trip in Hong Kong was to pay a visit to her lawyer at the Bank of America Tower in the Admiralty area. After the divorce was announced, Yapeng claimed that his and Faye’s finances “had always been independent,” in which case there would be no difficulties stemming from the reallocation of their assets. However, Faye wanted to ensure the financial security of herself and her two daughters and thus sought out a lawyer to establish a trust fund for her children.

After meeting with the lawyer for close to two hours, Faye was taken to a well-known bone-setting medical practitioner located in Tsz Wan Shan. She appeared to have recovered after the half-hour visit and was no longer grasping her back as she walked back to the car.

Finding Solace with Vicki Zhao

In order to keep a low profile in Hong Kong, Faye accepted the offer to stay at the house of her friend, Vicki Zhao. Although Vicki was in Wuhan attending the Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival on the day Faye arrived in Hong Kong, she had already instructed her servants to welcome Faye to the residence.

A close friend of Faye revealed, “Because many of the documents need time to be processed, Faye will need to stay in Hong Kong for some time, but all of her property in Hong Kong has been leased to other people. Vicki saw that she would be staying in a hotel by herself, so she suggested that Faye stay with her. This way, Faye would have company and would not feel melancholy.”

The day after her arrival in Hong Kong, Faye was seen at an Osim store, where she purchased a belt that would relieve her back pain.

Currently Staying in India

After her conversion to Buddhism, Faye would make yearly pilgrimages to India in order to visit the Tibetan Buddhist Karmapa. According to reports, she left Vicki’s house on September 29 and took a nighttime flight to New Delhi. It is understood that she will be staying there for a while in order to observe Buddhist assemblies and practices.

The divorce appears to have caused Faye to turn to religion for solace. The day before the divorce was announced, Faye reportedly went to Tibet with a friend in order to worship at various Buddhist temples. Friends have also revealed that after the announcement, Faye has been copying and reciting scripture for hours each day, and has not been responding to phone calls.

Despite her wish for solitude, Faye remembered to leave an encouraging message for her older daughter, Dou Jingtong (竇靖童), when the latter uploaded a new song on Sina Weibo on October 1.

  2. So nice to be rich. Got a back pain, buys an osim belt. My mum is so stingy to even visit the doctor

  3. She is in a very distress state. I’d encourage her to practise Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism and chant Nam Myoho Renge Kyo. Afterall the true purpose of life is to attain Buddhahood and achieve Kosen Rufu not to mention eradicating negative karma.
