Grace Chan, Tony Hung Dive into Sea Without Stunt Doubles

Grace Chan (陳凱琳) and Tony Hung (洪永城) bravely jumped into the sea for a scene in time-traveling TVB drama, Pirate Cheung <張保仔>. Although a stunt double was ready to step in for Grace’s diving scene, the adventurous 23-year-old decided to take the plunge herself for more realistic effects.

Grace portrays a police officer who travels back in time and encounters pirate Cheung Po Tsai, portrayed by Tony Hung. When her watch fell into the sea, Grace jumped into the water to retrieve it, with Tony following right behind her. The scene was completed in two takes at the Sai Kung pier, with Grace and Tony watching instant playbacks of the scene to ensure satisfactory results.

Since Pirate Cheung is Grace and Tony’s first historical drama, they sought the advice of their more seasoned co-stars. As the cast and crew will be filming in Wuxi and Hengdian in November, they were advised to wear wet suits in upcoming water scenes. Tony said, “It’s very cold there and our seniors told us that if we don’t wear wet suits, we will freeze and be unable to act out the scenes.”

Stepping in last minute for the pirate role after Raymond Wong (黃浩然) was diagnosed with Behcet’s disease, Tony got along well with the cast. He especially praised Grace for being “very sharp” and “self-driven” although she only has six months of experience in filming dramas since winning last year’s Miss Hong Kong crown. Grace and Tony got along so well that they did not even mind sharing the same bottle of water.

  1. I find it kinda sad that they rely on their costars and seniors for advice but these seniors probably never had the same chance they did.

Oh well, different ppl, different fate.

In other news, a time travelling series?! I didnt know this! I luuurrrrve time travel dramas. Im actually excited to watch this now.

  2. So, end result: Total failure on both sides of the continent, East and south, hehehe.

  3. TVB is really setting up to promote Grace as the good girl and Sisley as the not so good girl. All news about Grace are praising her and most news about Sisley has negative vibes! This is how they promote Linda and Fala at the beginning!

      1. I think both of them are controlling themselves on camera. Linda might be a good girl but I don’t think she’s as angelic as TVB and the media always sells.

      2. Linda is also fake. Just that she probably is better in concealing her fakeness than Grace.

  4. wow! really? TVB is just kept on promoting grace to do the lead of the film!!!!!! and i think she will do it well by looking at the photo with Tony hung! 😉

  5. Frankly, it’s nauseating how TVB keeps putting the positive spin on Grace. The more i see her interviews, the more fake i’m convinced she is.

  6. Freeze or not, they both couldn’t act out their scenes. I like the idea of the drama but w/ Tony and Grace as leads… It’s iffy

    1. “Freeze or not, they both couldn’t act out their scenes.”

      I can’t agree more lol.

  7. tony ???? omg i will never get over this! unless he magically upgrades his acting skills, main lead? NOOO WAY !!!!!!!

  8. Why is there a constant need to ‘praise’ Grace for her acting skill? Is this scribbed by TVB that everyone who works with her has to give her postive comments? I haven’t seen a damn series of her yet but constantly reading about how ‘good’ she is is unfair to other artists who put in just as much if not more effort to learn their parts in the series. When I finally watch something with her in it, I hope I’m not disappointed.

    1. Thw only reason she’s promoted is because of garden gnomes such as Eric Tsang influencing TVB execs.

  9. Oh wow! such exciting news! NOT. Who cares if she decided to jump into water. Its water! WATER!

  10. Tony Hung replaced Raymond Wong? So that means TVB wants to promote him into lead?

So many positive things have been said about Grace’s attitude towards filming and her being a quick-learner. I really can’t wait to see what thees praises are about.

  11. ^_^ the article makes it like a big deal – just swimming…with a lot of people around paying attention to them. Dangerous level: nah

I feel okay about Grace but Tony – I pass

    1. hmm never heard of accident ? just saying do you ever feel safe going to a American university ?

  12. Cannot comment on ‘Rear Mirror’ now. So, commented here.

Watch until episode 8. I think Tony Hung acted very well in the series as a meek guy with enochlophobia (please correct me if I use to wrong phobia name). He’s very convincing is his fidgeting and fear.
