Joey Yung and Hu Ge Grew Closer on Set of “Diva”

On August 7thOriental Sunday reported that Joey Yung (容祖兒) and mainland actor Hu Ge (胡歌) grew closer after collaborating on the set of Diva <DIVA華麗之後>. It was alleged that the pair became good friends after sharing many intimate scenes with each other, one of them in which Hu Ge was required to massage Joey’s feet and bare back!

The intimate scene involved Joey’s character, pop singer “JY,” getting a massage from the blind massage therapist “Hu Ming,” portrayed by Hu Ge. To ease Joey’s anxiety, the scene was shot in a closed set, with only the actors, the director, and the sound personnel present.

While filming the massage scene, Joey was still feeling very nervous. It was not until Hu Ge began massaging her back when she felt a little more at ease. She even admitted afterwards that Hu Ge was so good at the task that she almost fell asleep!

Hu Ge explained that he did a lot of preparation beforehand, including asking a real massage therapist to teach him tricks. He said, “I usually visit a massage therapist, and since I will be portraying one in this film, I asked my therapist to be my consultant.” When asked about how Joey’s back felt like, he smiled and said, “Very soft and smooth.”

Diva is directed by 27-year-old award-winning director, Heiward Mak (麥曦茵) of Love in a Puff <志明與春嬌> fame. Produced byChapman To (杜汶澤), who also stars in the film as JY’s manipulative manager “Man,” Diva is jointly distributed by Hong Kong’s Emperor Motion Pictures and mainland China’s Pearl River Film Group.

Starring alongside Joey Yung, Hu Ge, and Chapman To is Mag Lam (林欣彤), who portrays “Red”, JY’s rival labelmate. Fiona Sit (薛凱琪) and Kara Hui (惠英紅) also make guest appearances.

Synopsis of “Diva”

Unable to perform in her concert after losing her voice, JY escapes to mainland China to avoid the Hong Kong press. During this time, JY’s manager, Man, decides to promote “Red,” JY’s rival labelmate, to become the company’s next big star. Her popularity came at a cost – Red was forced to break up with her longtime boyfriend Lok (Carlos Chan 陳家樂).

While in mainland China, JY falls in love with the blind massage therapist Hu Ming, who teaches her to cherish the simplicities of life. The ever money-hungry Man discovers JY and Hu Ming’s relationship soon after she returns to Hong Kong, and he tries to break them apart.

Emperor Motion Picture’s new romantic film, Diva, will premiere in cinemas on August 16, 2012.

    1. Bet Joey probably got a bit turned on knowing some decent-looking guy was massaging her back………..especially since she hasn’t been fondled by a man’s hand for some time…….come on Joey, it’s Ok to get wet in these instances.

  1. the above pic of joey yung is not really flattering. I am confuse as how come she is so famous. She is not really good at acting, as singing ok lar but how come she is so famous?. Is it just me?

Not sure why just suddenly thought of chu mimi. Jayne, did you come across any article about chu mimi?. I just recently find out she is very good singer. Sorry a bit off topic.

    1. Ita,
I believe Chu Mimi held a concert performance at Hong Kong Coliseum in recent months.

And she has a husband in Malaysia or Singapore? I read the article in passing so do not remember all the details.

Joey’s popularity received a powerful boost thanks to the marketing machine EEG, who has forged very close ties with TVB.

      1. Ah i see, thanks for the info jayne. No wonder. The power of marketing.

Wish one day chu mimi hold a concert in US or some where i can go. Btw i have been looking around for the asian celebrity that will hold concert in US but can’t find the info anywhere. I think it would be nice if it is included in this website. Just a suggestion and thought only. I know there is one website used to provide this kind of information but not anymore.

      2. Ita,
Your cool suggestion is something I have been thinking about as well! 🙂

    2. i disagree with your opinion on her singing. i think joey has a great voice and she knows how to use it. she can sing fast dance songs and slow love songs equally well. she never had a pretty face, but makeup and surgery can fix that easily. certainly, eeg has poured a lot of money on her as well.

      1. Chu Mimi had a mini concert in southern CA recently with Lee Long Kei

      2. err.. no way, compare Joey to Anita Mui , Sally Yip, Faye Wong… they all could sing slow/fast songs too, they have a great voice. not Joey..

      3. Hmm… what fast song has faye sung? The only upbeat song I remember f/ sally was “believe in yourself”. Even anita never danced the way joey does while singing. That girl has stamina.

      4. Chu Mimi? Didn’t she used to sing live at night clubs which isn’t a bad place in the olden days?

      5. Yes, i think so, i look her up after louis yuen mention that he used to see chu mimi performed at night clubs.

    3. Oh yes, Mimi Chu has great voice. I listened to her live once and impressed with her voice.

      1. Indeed, watch in youtube she sang carmen, powerful voice.

  2. Actually I find Joey to be quite pretty…her “bee stung” lips are memorable to me. Her features are not classically beautiful like Kelly Chan, but Joey has a memorable face.

I still see Joey as a girl-next-door type though, although she has been pop music queen for years.

    1. yeah, that is one thing didn’t make me dislike her. She look like someone very down to earth type. She has a unique look like shu qi. Not necessarily pretty but memorable.

    2. Jayne, Joey did her face and everyone knows. She wears too much make up. Apparently she will not go out of her house until her make up is perfect.

She is however quite tall for a girl, a better actress than most give her credit but not that great a singer as her fans claim. And no she isn’t terribly pretty but she must have been terribly not pretty before her surgery because right now she looks plain weird.

      1. Funn,

Which current singer do u consider to be better than joey? Miriam? I think they both have nice voices but joey can pull off fast songs as well as slow.

      2. not comparing her to anyone and I am still stuck in the 90s of HK music. I find none of the current HK singers displaying any individualism that separates them from one and another, fast song slow song, same.

But she is a likeable actress, much like Miriam.

      3. No individualism, really? I think joey is the music queen now just like sammi dominated before.
For the 90’s, I think sandy lam was quite good at both fast and slow songs.

      4. Funn,
ah, summarize it well. That is exactly what i’ve been trying to say. Can sing but all sounds the same no uniqueness.

      5. So u can’t really say that she doesn’t have a good voice, just not unique enough. U can’t really find female singers that have the distinct, deep voice like anita mui or Paula chui nowadays.

      6. I didn’t say she has a good or not good voice. I am saying they all sound alike, sing alike. Sammi herself is not a good comparison. They are competent singers but nowhere near great. Not even her rumoured ex girlfriend.

      7. That’s why I’m trying to find out who u consider great. In terms of voice, faye or cass pang? In terms of performance, anita or sandy?

Btw, I think joey is a better singer than Denise.

      8. Joey is of course better singer than Denise, Joey can sing many genre songs while Denise can only sing those really strong vocal song and her voice is too depend on her nose LOL

      9. “That’s why I’m trying to find out who u consider great. In terms of voice, faye or cass pang?”

Faye for uniqueness in voice but zero points for blatant plagarism earlier in her career. Cass Pang is of course a very good technical singer as well.

“In terms of performance, anita or sandy?”
        No fight. Anita Mui.

Between Sandy and Cass, I say Sandy. Between Sandy and oh dear lord, I forgot her name…ahh Sally Yeh, I will say Sally Yeh mostly.

“Btw, I think joey is a better singer than Denise.”
I agree but Denise is suppose to be some what chinese says “chong jok gor sau” right?

      10. Paula Chui is a great technical singer with a weak voice, in my opinion, much like Diana Ross. However those you have named are all great singers of yesteryears. Nowadays no one can come close whether in performance or technical or even the voice. The one who had it all was to me Anita Mui, she was the whole package and unfortunately died way too soon.

      11. There’s no point in comparing Joey with the classics, most notably Anita Mui who was simply sublime. The problem is when you compare Joey with her contemporaries; what IS IT about her that makes her stand out and catapult her to such fame? I see no reason for it and that’s what confuses me. It’s probably down to timing, marketing and her general likability. She doesn’t strike me as a scandalous type.

      12. the whole hk music industry started going down when singers like vivian chow, sammi cheng were introduced. too much emphasis on the promotions, and K-songs.. even then they are better singers than joey now.

      13. Joey is a much better singer than an actress. Her acting is not memorable, and it does not evoke emotions (not in me) even in sad scenes.

  3. Joey is not a very good actress, but from the previews, she doesn’t seem as awkward. It’s probably because she’s playing herself rather than a character.

I’m interested in seeing this movie because I hope it gives some dirty inside information in the entertainment industry. haha

    1. Me too. In total shock to find out he nearly died. I am very behind in mainland artistes’ news. Love his voice also.

      1. Do you mean the accident where his assistant died? It was quite sad.
Apparently it was hard for him to adapt to and get back to filming.
Yes he does and he is so good at singing!

      2. Yes but I never got the whole story like what happened, whose fault, anyone charged, etc

      3. I love Hu Ge as well. His accident was really sad and tragic. He expressed it in one of his songs. I think it was the song “Qu Ai Ba”. I love his voice and many of his songs too. I just read more about him in one of his books. He talked about how his mom said that he is not as handsome as his dad. His mom wants him to marry a pretty or at least decent looking girl so she can have good looking grand kids. Really cute…

      4. I recommend his books since they have nice photos and great info about him. Very nice..

      5. I’m pretty sure I read an translate article on his accident. But that was a long time ago.
It wasn’t his fault, another drivers fault. So sad though.

  4. i personally find joey quite bland actually…i prefr miriam…
