Linda Chung Plays Heavy Role in “The Apothecary”
Even if she fails to win TV Queen at this year’s Anniversary Awards, Linda Chung (鍾嘉欣) will get a second chance in 2014 with her major role in The Apothecary <大藥房>.
Despite being the hottest Best Actress contender this year, Linda’s performance in Brother’s Keeper <巨輪> fell short of expectations. She was also overshadowed by some of her more experienced co-stars. At the TVB Anniversary Gala on November 19, 400 artists gathered and decided that Kristal Tin (田蕊妮) is the more deserving TV Queen.
While Linda outwardly appears confident about her chances at the official awards ceremony in December, her more recent comments show a gradual shift in attitude. Instead of speaking directly about the probability of winning, she focuses on the lessons learned at TVB and describes her wish to improve her skills in the years to come.
At a holiday event on November 26, Linda talked about maintaining optimism as she heads into the big race. Different from her more gloomy outlook in the summer, she is now making happiness a priority and is able to sustain it on her own. Currently filming Tsui Ching Hong’s (徐正康) early Republic-era drama The Apothecary, Linda seems aware of TVB’s effort to make her into a superstar, and is working hard to achieve her big break. “The company gave me an opportunity. I have a hefty role in The Apothecary. I must perform it well.”
The road to TV Queen certainly comes at a price. In addition to an increase in public appearances, Linda will continue to film her new drama through the end of the year, even on Christmas Day. Although she will be missing out on some of the holiday money-making functions, Linda is just glad to be able to continue doing what she loves, knowing that the opportunity to move her career forward is far more valuable than what goes into her bank account.

I really hope the role is actually different from what we have seen linda in before. i don’t want this to be another hype like brother’s keeper when her character did nothing except for cry and scream that sam cheated on her and blah blah blah.
All her roles are hyped up to more than what it really is and she can’t really act……she doesn’t have that “aura” when she’s on screen and she over-reacts to emotional moments on the screen……She may be a bit popular but definitely not worthy of TVB best actress material……

Linda did seem very confident to win right until Kristal was announced as peer favourite Best Actress. Linda seems disappointed with her loss but it’s not her time to shine this year, her acting was unappealing.
I disagree that Linda was disappointed. Well maybe she might be. But her facial expression when Eric Tsang first said her name, she was calm and whatnot. She also shook her head when Eric Tsang said her name.. but I do agree that it’s not time for her to get it yet.
but when Kristal’s name was said, I felt that Linda was happy for her since they were in the same series..
Don’t worry about what the others say. Linda was happy for Kristal. She even hold her hands, rub her back and hugged her. Only Linda fans will know the true Linda. From her speech u know she already appreciate having people’s support and love.
U can do it babe! Just continue to work hard and improve your skills. Hopefully 2014 is your year. I’ll always be here to support u.

Linda..oh..Linda this is only your first race and life seems so smooth for you from the beginning of your ent career until now compare to other old artists and if you don’t have opportunity taking home this year BA award you will learn to be a better actress in future. ..failing is a good learning for you.
Because she has a such big role coming up, I’m convinced TVB is not going to give Linda her BA this year and grooming her for next year.
She’s not ready yet to grab TV Queen, her role in BK is far from heavyweight, just ordinary role like her previous girl next doors type 😛
Don’t think the new drama she’s in will be that great. It’s an ancient drama, which she is really bad at, the dialogue will be a whole lot different, which I don’t think she can master. This won’t make her the next tv queen
It depends whether this is a bigger production than TC2. I’m assuming her role in TC2 will bring more attention to her nomination next year. Her role in this series seems like ahore one of her usual roles but I could be wrong.
I don’t think TC2 will be a good one to be nominated, I guess it will run a similar format with its prequel? If so the villains in the drama will mostly likely to grab attention more than the leads, just like how Kenneth did in the first and finale. I think the apothecary is still a better one though.
It’s her role in the series that seems more interesting not necessarily the series itself, she’s a new character and from what I know it’s quite a huge transformation for her which is why I think she might have a better chance with it. Her role in this series just seems like a few of her previous roles.
Her performance this year wasn’t best actress material, so, it would be awkward if she wins and cries of her hard work while giving the acceptance speech
I really hope Linda gets another role like her roles in the Gem of Life and the Journey of Life… Her acting really shone in those series.
Her time will come but not for bk. I want her to win for something solid.
Tiger cubs 2 only 20 episodes so not big production but will be a stepping stone to increase her popularity in the first half of 2014. Then this 30 episodes drama will be closer to the anniversary period around October or nov to seal the TV Queen chance. TVB have it all plan out 🙂 Linda just give it all u got! It’s your best chance next year.
nothing against her as i think she’s nice but so far i find her performance to the various roles she played pretty similar. same expression and delivery. not sure if that’s ready for BA this year. 😛

She does hv the acting skills but this year she does not hv any shows to showcase. Somehow when she acted very well in 2011 and everyone expected her to win for ms cool, she didn’t. She seems to hv a tougher route to obtaining this award as compared to other fadans. Hwr, she did hv a smoother route to reaching fadan status at tvb compared to the rest. And she’s the youngest amongst them. So maybe next year will be a better year. Let’s hope she wins it soon as she puts in alot of hard work.
