Liza Wang Tells Eric Tsang to Diversify TVB Programs

Eric Tsang (曾志偉) and Wong Cho Lam (王祖藍) have returned to TVB in managerial roles, and Liza Wang (汪明荃) has something to say.

Attending a Lunar New Year event, Liza expressed her excitement about the news of her former colleagues returning to TVB. She hopes that their return can give TVB new blood, new changes, and more diversity. “I’m more than happy to try out new things,” said Liza.

With a plethora of new food shows having premiered last year, Liza said TVB’s programming has been too stale with a lack of diversity. Asking if she hopes that Eric’s return as a TVB executive could eliminate TVB’s production “camps”, she said, “I don’t know how to answer that, but I can understand why one would stick to their own team. However, I hope that [Eric] will use this opportunity to discover new talents. Let there be free expression.”

As for TVB executive Sandy Yu (余詠珊), who was at one point was rumored to be in discord with Eric, stated that Eric was pleased with her proposals in a meeting about TVB’s upcoming plans, and she herself is ecstatic to have Eric as her new boss. She agreed with Liza about TVB’s recent programming being too mellow and unoriginal, but added that the pandemic could have been a reason behind the lack of creativity.

  1. the quality has been going downhill way before pandemic and pandemic should have given tvb more grittier material but I see zero reference to the plights of hkers. zero.

    1. @funnlim I was just about to say the same thing…..TVB has been going downhill for many years well before pandemic… Think they were just producing the same old format and very little creativity….shame as they were once the golden TV production company…..hope things changes but it will take a massive uturn before anything changes

yup, it’s like watching the same show w/ different character names and slightly different background. their actions, outcome, and dialog is mostly identical in every show and the same actor would play the same role over and over again.

  2. Like all dynasty/empire before us, they will fall and another will rise.

Complacency and Pride kill them all

  3. Great, TVBs future is now with Eric Tsang, an individual who has had multiple sexual assault allegations against him. Great choice out of the many more respectable veterans that positions could have gone to.

  4. they need to have more shows w/ supernatural elements. they had two shows like that, both very successful but i don’t like the other one how they turned it into a love story. it’s not like there’s not already enough shows out there where romance is the main plot.

    1. @m0m0 I would prefer wuxia dramas to grace the screens again, but its been pretty much revealed that they cant afford it anymore.

  5. So Sandy is demoted?!
I’m hopeful that WCL can bring something new to tvb but Eric…. Not so sure. Also Liza isn’t helping much. Maybe the older people want to see her onscreen but she’s not doing much to help progress the station. Tvb held on to their old generation too long, and now even the second generation of stars have either left tvb or are going into their 40s and 50s. Meaning Viutv is actually successful in bringing new blood and making them popular.
I hope they bring back an interview or talk show. The cooking shows are nonstop.
