Myolie Wu Ends Contract with Stephen Shiu, Jr.

After leaving TVB in 2015, Myolie Wu (胡杏兒) signed a contract with Stephen Shiu Jr.’s (蕭定一) China 3D Digital Entertainment Limited shortly after. Three years later, she decided not to renew her contract and issued a joint statement with Stephen Shiu Jr. on the termination of it.

The 38-year-old was rumored to be dissatisfied with the company failing to fulfill its promise to propel her into the film industry. When Myolie first signed with Stephen Shiu Jr.’s company, there was news of her stepping into the film industry with roles specifically tailored for her. Disheartened with the lack of movies she was cast in, Myolie is allegedly building her own studio so she can work hard for her acting career.

In regards to the rumors, Myolie announced the main reason for the non-renewal of her contract is because of the “new developments” in her family and work. Myolie married entrepreneur, Philip Lee (李乘德), in December 2015 and gave birth to her son Brendan Lee (李奕霆) in 2017.

She said, “[Stephen Shiu Jr.] supports me,” She added, “In fact, the company has always filmed movies and dramas, but I just felt that they were not suitable for me, so I never took on the offers to act in them.”

Stephen Shiu Jr. confirmed Myolie’s statement by sharing that they have previously looked over a lot of film opportunities together but felt Death Notify <死亡通知單暗黑者:首部曲「雙雄會」>, an upcoming action mystery thriller film starring Louis Koo (古天樂), Francis Ng (吳鎮宇), and Chilam Cheung (張智霖), was the most suitable for her. “We are very good friends in private, and we will continue to work together in the future.”

Myolie also shared the same sentiments, “The company is still my best partner; we might collaborate again in the future.”
