Selena Li Finds German Sausages Too Oily For Her Liking

Earlier on, TVB artist Selena Li (李詩韻), went to Germany to film a travelogue special. Since it was a rare opportunity to be in Germany, of course there was a need to indulge in their local three big delicacies like roasted pork knuckle, sausage and beer. However, Selena found that the food was too oily for her liking and admitted to liking Chinese dishes the best.

In addition to that, Selena who all along doesn’t like to drink beer, was sampling the beer and filming at the same time and unknowingly drank quite a lot as the filming went on and ended up being a little drunk until she was giddy in the head.

Selena who did not like to drink  in the first place, also needed to try it, “German beer is quite tasty actually. I do not like to drink beer but I felt that it was okay. However, the alcoholic content was very high. While filming, I didn’t realize and drank and drank until I was giddy. And eating lots of pork knuckles and sausages, I grew fat. afterall I’m Chinese so I think Chinese dishes, which are plain and light, suit me best!”

Simple Love Is All the More Precious

In this trip to Germany, Selena Li stayed for a total of 12 days but did not bump into any new romance. Selena laughed and said, “Nope, nothing! There’s no handsome guys in Germany. Actually maybe it’s because I’m more traditional. Chinese guys suit me the best.”

Although she did not meet any new guy during her stay in Germany, the trip overseas made Selena change her mindset about love, “Among the tour mates, there was a couple who were very simple. From first love to marriage, they were very sweet. Looking at them, I realized that love can actually be so simple. I will keep that in mind when scouting for my partner in love.”

Hopes Hong Kong Would Use Electricity Wisely

Asked whether the man whom she had hugged and kissed at a nightclub, who resembled a tall and big version of Erik Fok (霍啟山), was her cup of tea, Selena replied, “He is only my good friend. I did not feel that type of feelings towards him at all. He is a good man with good conditions but not my cup of tea.”

Germany is an advanced city in environmental protection, such that the locals had developed solar and wind energy. No one could even see bicycles placed everywhere on the streets for rental. Selena thus advised, “I hope Hong Kong will take Germany’s example as an understudy and try using solar and wind energy instead to save our electricity.”

  1. Being as I’m born in America, I cannot eat plain food like how many Chinese dishes are. I need flavor!

    1. I’m also not too fond in Chinese dishes, maybe because I came to USA so long. I am more into Korean food, love the Barbeque BBQ Ribs, Yum Yum!! Italian food is also good, sausauge can be good too, Italian sausage are best.

      1. Too salty but I agree on Korean food which however lacks in variety. Chinese food depends on area, etc. Chinese food is more variety based, some may feel bland since too much of western type food which is too heavy on salt, and such. I find Japanese food very very salty but quite delicious. But if I have to eat ramen again, I will scream!

    2. I was born in America too so I think that being American, we should be able to eat a variety of things due to the multicultural population in the US.

      1. IDK. My parents are from back home and they even say they cannot eat bland Chinese food. They like spice in their food and personally I don’t like spice. But having flavor is most important in my dish.

  2. Selena has gotten much prettier since opening her beauty school.

I personally also like Chinese food much more…even though I’ve been living in Canada for so many years.

    1. Depends on the cook and the region or you just eat at crappy Chinese food establishments. Chicken and broccoli w/fried rice is NEVER served in our household.

    2. Greasy? Where did you eat? Chinese food are normally not greasy.

Is there such a thing as Chicken and broccoli w/fried rice???

  3. LOL I have noticed that when Chinese people travel, they tend to want to stick to eating Chinese food in the new place…only sometimes it’s not made quite right haha.

When I was much younger, I didn’t really enjoy eating food or trying new food. As I am getting older, there is a certain appeal in trying new foods. Nowadays, I sometimes regret overspending on clothes, shoes, and jewelery…but never on eating lol

    1. Oh no, I pressed the button prematurely! I was gonna delete the last paragraph and just write:

I thought Selena had short hair now and she has always been attractive to me.

      1. She has short hair now. This must taken before she cut her hair

    2. I love to eat… I live to eat. Traveling is for me to try new food

    3. good for you. it’s certainly better to use money on food, travelling etc than clothes and diamonds…

    4. “LOL I have noticed that when Chinese people travel, they tend to want to stick to eating Chinese food in the new place”

I actually don’t quite get this mentality. lol.

For me, the purpose of travel is to see and experience new things. So, I would always like to try their local food.

What is the point of traveling if you are going to eat and buy stuff that you can get in your home country?

      1. They probably just want to see new things but eat the same things

      2. I agree and isn’t that one of the reasons why many want to travel?? What is the point of traveling if you are going to eat what you eat at home??

      3. Kidd,

“For me, the purpose of travel is to see and experience new things. So, I would always like to try their local food.
What is the point of traveling if you are going to eat and buy stuff that you can get in your home country?”

Simple. Maybe their stomach can’t get used to that local’s food. I couldn’t get used to the water in the place I went to. Since they can’t adjust, they rather eat something similar. But I am of your mentality; as long as whatever I am eating is not disgusting, I will try. Moreover, we all had pizza so Italy is ok, sausages so Germany is ok, curry so England is ok, etc etc. It’s those bugs, stuff that I refuse to try. No dog meat for me.

      4. I guess another reason is they want to taste how their local food in different countries taste. 😛

        @ Funn

I ate the bugs while I was in Kunming. 🙂
They were deep fried. So, it’s not slimy or yucky. But, dog meat a no no to me too.

      5. My dad once told me that dog meat is the best meat that he ever ate…

Would any of you guys try snake meat? My cousins and younger brother ate it(my 6th brother was too scared to try it) and actually liked it.

    5. I agree with you iampheng. Many Chinese people that I have met refuse to eat anything non Chinese and I actually find that sad since they are not willing to try out new things. I convinced some of my friends to try out Japanese, Thai, Italian and others and thank goodness they liked it!!

      1. HeTieShou, I disagree with

“I agree with you iampheng. Many Chinese people that I have met refuse to eat anything non Chinese”

I am not sure which chinese from which area you met. Chinese I know tries different culture’s food. It is the westerners’ who are set on certain food, even Koreans stick to koreans, japanese to Japanese but Chinese tries a wide variety.

      2. @Funn,
The Chinese that I am talking about are the ones that are studying in the SF bay area in California in the US. They are straight from China and are international students.I am not saying that everyone is like that, but I am just referring to the ones that I know and that particular group since besides just food, they refuse to be friends or even hang out with other nationalities. A majority of them just stick to other CHinese and speak their L1 only… They refuse to practice their English. I often have to force them too and can you believe that their English is so weak that they have to take out their electronic dictionary when talking to me?? But anyways, it varies from person to person I guess.. The Americans that I know are more likely to try things out in the US(not sure about other countries) since we are a multicultural country so we should try out everything. Even when I go to any Thai, Chinese, Mexican, Vietnamese,etc.. restaurant, I often see foreigners.. This is how it is in the US so I don’t know how it is in other countries…

      3. LOL

HTS, I’m talking about the same group of people you are talking about. The international students–some I know especially dislike the local Asian places because it’s not “home” enough for them…well then, just eat at home, right?

    6. Not me lampheng! And I hate eating McDonald’s during travels unless no choice or trying pork. But once I am back home, I rush to get my plate of Hokkien fried noodle.

      1. LOL ok Funn but I wasn’t really talking about McD’s but I can see from your comments above that you’re open minded about trying local dishes.

  4. selina seems like a nice girl. hope she finds love soon and i love her saying that she wants simple love…

      1. Yes, I use MSN, here is my Email: [email protected]
Can you please send me an Email write me your MSN ID? I want to be your friend, I think you are good person, your viewpoints and mine are similar and hard to find these days “Wink”

      2. LOL! Now I can be LeilaFan’s friend too because I have his/her email MuUaAwHaHaHaHa

      3. exoidus, my MSN is [email protected]
Can you add me again, I think you add the wrong person, my MSN have “1984” after the name LeilaFan.
“LeilaFan” taken by someone else already, so I have to add in 1984 for my ID. Please add me again.

  5. anyone here that are good in statistics and know how to conduct an “event study”???

    i need some help LOL

    1. Hi exoidus, I like reading your replies in here and I think you are a mature person, and many of your viewpoints I agree with. So I want to be your friend, here I write my Email: [email protected]
      Have a nice weekend exoidus

      1. thanks, leilafan.

im enjoying your comments very much as well. i just love their view on money issues since most people these days only value money.

      2. @ah k & sds,

what im trying to find out is how to find the variance of the average abnormal returns for an specific day in the event window for a portfolio of companies.

the way i have done it so far is the adding the variance from the regression and divide by N^2 which gives me the same variance for each day. wheares i have seen other paper with varying variance which makes me very confused.

pls let me know if you guys how an idea how to do it. and thanks for answering anyway!

      3. eeee this is calling me to think back to all my statistics courses I did some 3-4 years ago.

Unfortunately most my experience is with hypothesis testing relating to areas of linear regression, interaction effects and contrasts, so I’m not sure if I could help. Nor am I sure I totally understand your problem either. Sorry. If any of the topics I listed is what you are looking for I may be offer a little guidance.

      4. @exoidus:

So you are trying to get it by working it out physically lahs? I think you are doing investment management, yes? I’m not sure what is the data input you have with you but I think you are talking about cumulative abnormal return (CAR)?

I can’t copy and paste the formula here but go to this PDF file of the investment book by Bodie, Kane and Marcus (http://www.forex-warez.com/Trading%20Books/Bodie%20Kane%20Marcus%20-%20Investments/Bodie%20Kane%20Marcus%20-%20Investments.pdf), flip to page 224/225 & 264/265 of 924 and you will get the formula of how to get variance of a portfolio and flip to page 366/367 to get the formula for abnormal returns and CAR.

After calculating the abnormal return for each stock, I think you are supposed to form a table and list them out then calculate the mean and calculate the sum of the sum of the squared differences and so on using the steps here, that should get you the variance of average abnormal returns (http://ci.columbia.edu/ci/premba_test/c0332/s6/s6_4.html)

I don’t know whether this is of any help cause I’m on summer vacation now so I haven’t done this for 4 months already, my understanding of it is starting to rust. 😡

      5. @ah k,

thanks alot for the information. i actually have a formula only problem is that following it will increase my varinace even more which to my doesn’t make any sense. already there are only a few significant days in my event window which makes my worried a little bit.

thanks again for trying to help me out i really appreciate it.

      6. @exoidus:

You’re welcome! Ah I see, hope you don’t mind that I’m nosy and irritating lol although I would say I’m those kind that will be persistent to the end to find out what went wrong.

Hmm…hope you don’t mind me probing but did you use the multi-factor model by Fama and French to calculate it or the market model?

Because according to a journal by Bodie, Kane and Marcus I read, if you are talking about event studies, it makes a difference as they have found that multi-factor models give a relative small improvements of R square as compared to the market model which is why probably if they used multi-factor model, there might be small differences amongst their variances.

And if you are talking about testing event studies, it depends on how many periods (q) their data is spread over because according to the formula, considering cumulative returns (not the time average of returns), the variance is increasing in q hence why their variance varies across I think!

LOL, oops, shall not pester you anymore then, good luck for your derivation of it!

      7. ah k,

ofcourse not i really appreciate your effort to help me out.

i used the market model adjusted for risk free rate in order to estimate the parameters.

yeah in order to calculate the significance of CAR i need to summarize the variance. the problem for me is the variance of AR (average abnormal return)for all the companies for instance on the announcement day. this is to test sign. for one day only.

i have put to data setion to rest as im not getting anywhere. so now im writing other parts of it.

no i don’t mind you asking LOL. just getting a little crazy these days…

    2. @exoidus:

Lol, I would love to help but Statistics is not exactly in my field of study. I only done it as a module once!

That said, maybe you could try SPSS if you are collating data and trying to do an “event study” on it.

    3. You could just use Excel Spreadsheet if you’re not planning on doing any inferential statistics. Depends how far you want to ‘study’ the ‘event’ in your ‘event study’ 🙂

  6. Is this news?Finding german sausage not to her liking? In fact that is so cat III sorta title.

“I hope Hong Kong will take Germany’s example as an understudy and try using solar and wind energy instead to save our electricity.”

Selena, you mean nuclear power issit?

    1. @Funn Lim:

Lol, I agree that the headline seems so Category III! When I translated it, I was like, “Okayy….What the hell???”

Haha I think nuclear energy is just very hard to put to words in Chinese/Cantonese maybe? :Z

      1. I know she doesn’t mean nuclear energy but I think HK is doing ok.

      2. *Oops I mean nuclear power but come to think of it again, I think Selena really meant tapping on solar power and wind energy since it is environmental friendly and making use of natural resources. Nuclear power is supposed to be dangerous when there is a leakage, like in Japan when the tsunami and earthquake occurred, there was a leakage and up until now, some parts of Japan are still emitting radiation on a per minute basis.

I mean, that’s my understanding of it, do correct me if I’m wrong. 😀

      3. @Funn Lim:

I think so too. Hong Kong probably isn’t half-way near there yet as compared to probably big countries like China and America. 😀

      4. Japan is ok. I went to Tokyo and so far I am still me, not yet glowing green.

    2. i thought i’m the only one have that kinda of thought. haha…

  7. Wait!!

“Selena who did not like to drink in the first place, also needed to try it, “German beer is quite tasty actually. I do not like to drink beer but I felt that it was okay. However, the alcoholic content was very high. While filming, I didn’t realize and drank and drank until I was giddy. And eating lots of pork knuckles and sausages, I grew fat. afterall I’m Chinese so I think Chinese dishes, which are plain and light, suit me best!””

She loves clubbing right? But she doesn’t like to drink. So what does she do during clubbing?

    1. Dance rofl that’s the only option left unless meeting new people counts. =D

    2. She can drink orange juice. 😛

I also find it strange that she enjoys clubbing but doesn’t like drink beer.

      1. There’s plenty of liquor, including wine other than beers 😉

I tend to get drunk less easily when I choose to drink other liquor like whisky or wine because I drink them slowly. Beer, will be gulped down fairly faster coz it’s easy to drink…. So you might overlooked the amount you had.

      2. Haha Funn, don’t worry. I don’t drink that much often. I hate clubbing (noise & smokes).

I only drink when I hang out with friends at pub or house. Drinking moderately is always my motto 🙂

      3. sehseh, different people define moderately differently. Pub? More temptation! Whatever it may be, don’t get too drunk! I like Coca-cola and I don’t even know the sugar content!

    3. In an earlier article, she said the tall guy was holding her b/c she was wearing heels. If you’re not drunk, why can’t u walk on your own?
So obviously she likes to drink, just not beer. Probably cosmo’s or something.

      1. She likes to drink, just not beer. You right!
In the other clubbing photos, there photo of her holding a cup of alcohol, obviously not beer, but maybe cosmo or tequila.

      2. Which probably is higher alcohol content? I wouldnt’ know since I don’t drink.

      3. Yes, cosmo and tequila have higher content than beer. That is why you see people drink tequila, they have a smaller cup and not even fully fill up the cup. “Shot Glass” is even higher concentrated and very strong, it drunk straight from the alcohol instead of mix like cocktail.
So Selena does drink, just not drink “beer”. Beer make people have big belly, maybe she scare, LOL! Beer is usually cheaper too.

      4. @Funn

Beer have much lower alcohol content, typically around 5-7%.

        Wine start around 12-14% to 20+ %

Cocktail, like cosmo is around 20%, but depend on how much vodka you put in.

      5. And “Shot glass” , shot drink are much much higher alcohol content, they mostly taken straight out from the alcohol without mixing, or very little mixing. If you Google “shot glass” you see they are very tiny glass, but get people very drunk.

  8. “afterall I’m Chinese so I think Chinese dishes, which are plain and light, suit me best!””

She must only have eaten Cantonese food if she thinks Chinese food are plain and light.
