Kevin Cheng and Selena Li: Hot New Onscreen Couple!
Onscreen couples have the benefit of boosting income. TVB reviewed the current state of its rumored couples and hoped to package “fake couples” as “real couples,” increasing their collective earning power. Although Kevin Cheng (鄭嘉穎)and Selena Li(李詩韻)denied earlier romantic rumors, the public regarded the pairing positively. As a result, TVB ordered to increase the number of kissing scenes in The Boxer King <拳王>between the pair. TVB hoped to increase the couple image between Kevin and Selena to a burning hot level to help the company make money!
The King Boxer’s Producer, Law Wing Yin (羅永賢), confirmed that additional kissing scenes were added for Kevin and Selena. Mr. Law felt that Kevin and Selena portrayed a very convincing and harmonious couple in the series. “I agree with TVB’s intention to package Kevin and Selena as an onscreen couple. Their mutual scenes have a lot of ‘feel.’”
As of yesterday, Kevin did not receive TVB’s directive to be promoted as an onscreen couple with Selena yet. “It’s okay if that were the case. I am not the one in charge; it’s up to the company to decide! However, Selena and I have partnered together only once. If you are referring to an ‘onscreen couple,’ then it will be more convincing to partner in two to three series.”

Yesterday, Selena portrayed a scene in which she cried after her romantic interest was rejected twice by Kevin. Selena revealed that she had to rely on eye drops for the tearful scene, “Due to the multi-angle shooting and the crowded location, it was difficult to concentrate emotionally.” (Additional kissing scenes will be added between Selena and Kevin?) “Yes, that is what I heard. In my career to-date, this series required the most number of kissing scenes! However, Kevin is a handsome man!”
Nancy Wu (胡定欣)appeared in the rainy scene alongside Selena. Since Nancy’s character was mute, she had to use sign language to comfort the dejected Selena. Nancy laughed, “Since I portray a female boxing champion, I have to train physically to prepare for the role!”

I agree, Selena and Kenneth were together in sooooo many series that they were the on-screen couple, too bad TVB didn’t promote them as one!

Yes I agree. I think Kenneth and Selena is cuter. I don’t know why, they just look super cute and sweett! Love them. But TVB doesn’t promote them really much. 🙁

sorry i dont find Selena to be Kevin’s match. in fact, why are they promoting Selena Li as lead at this late stage? it seems that after Charmaine ended her managed contract, opting for lesser dramas, the ppl benefitting most are her and some second fiddle actresses( Fala, Natalie, and Nancy moving up) but their acting has always been weak, there is a reason why Selena has not been casted lead by producers prior, and definitely not lead quality now(to me.) TVB is just desperate now. i wont watch this because it seems just about everyone can lead nowadays at TVB, despite lack of acting, lack of fans, lack of fame altogether. big PASS.
I like Selena she’s pretty but it look like TVB is trying too hard to make her and Kevin the next popular couple so that TVB can gain commission from the money that they will make.
Moses and Aimee is example of overrated and overpromoted now.

The over-promotion phase for Kevin has already passed. I think he was still promoted, but, not overly promoted.
In series, even Natalie Tong seems to be promoted more than Aimmee.
@P: How is Aimee overpromoted? The only series I know of her is in right now is Forensic Heroes and rumours between her and Moses, I don’t think that is considered onverpromoted. More like the media likes to talk about her.
Ok, now that Charmaine is gone and Fala, Natalie, Nancy not good enough to be lead in your opinion. Who do you feel should lead in TVB’s upcoming dramas?

This year is full of these two’s series (after series).
Myolie has always been a lead. Tavia too. So no surprised. I think instead of depending on one lead, TVB should and will go back to promoting several at one go, so I won’t be surprised to see all up and coming in one series, to test who has the leading lady fate. Tavia isn’t one of them. Myolie for as long as she doesn’t strip down and go back to basic, will annoy more than please. Fala has a better chance if she works on her cantonese. The rest are still up and coming.
I know it’s not gonna be: Leung Ka-ki and Elanne Kong… at least I hope not.
Well it’s good for TVB to be desperate because I’m definitely sick of seeing the same five girls leading a TVB drama. And TVB definitely has more than just five girls who are capable of acting.
Nancy looks so ugly with that short hair. I didn’t know she played a mute character. Sounds interesting to console someone with sign language.
I must admit I think Selena can be paired up with anyone. Like how she was paired up with Lousi Yuen in CBML and she was very convincing lol
Actually, I find Nancy cute in that short hair. It’s better than Charmaine’s hair in My Sister of Eternal Flower. I’ve always thought Nancy looked cuter/better in short hair than long. Still, nothing beats her hair in War of In-Laws II.

That is obviously a one-sided kiss. Hence the lack of passion. From Kevin’s pose, it seems to be the case of the girl kissing the guy out of a sudden and the guy was caught off guard. Maybe he will return the kiss later (they do most of the time in TV series). But, in this particular shot, it’s still on one-sided phase.
That picture is actually a filming picture of a scene filmed a month ago. The scene talks about Selena falling in love with a married man, and wanted to go to his home to have a showdown, but encountered her good friend Kevin who discouraged her from doing that. The jilted Selena was non-stop cursing her lover, Kevin pleaded her with tactful words, but Selena, who was very drunk, was unable to restrain her emotion and suddenly kissed him. Then Kevin pushed her away and told her to calm down.

This one no passion and one sided but it doesn’t matter because TVB is giving them a lot more kissing scenes later. This article said it that TVB is promoting this couple as the next hot couple rofl

i would have Steven Ma to be paired with Aimee ans Selena in series i think it will be refreshing. And Keven is not overpromoted if someone is in TVB it’s Raymond period!

I like Natalie Tong but I cannot see a suitable male lead pairing with her yet, however, Kevin and her look pretty good together in one of the past series. I don’t see Kevin is a good match with Selena, Kenneth and her is a good pairing. They have onscreen chemistry.

I actually am glad to see Selena and Nancy lead the series. Like most people mentioned here, I’m tired of seeing Myolie-Tavia-Linda-Fala-Kate lead all the other series. With Charmaine gone, they can’t just rely on these 5 girls to lead all the series. Already, the audience is getting tired of seeing them. I think bringing Selena and Nancy in the running would actually be a positive thing and I’m glad TVB is looking at promoting them more. How will they improve if they are always stuck in 2nd line roles or same types of roles. Based on some spoilers from the scenes, I hope this will be a breakthrough for Selena as I see this as a bad girl, rebellious type of role. Very different from her usual girl-next-door, good girl roles. So I look forward to it.
In terms of Kevin and Selena, I don’t mind seeing them together, but I also agree I like her with Kenneth more. And I’m glad Kevin seems to be fine with this arrangement, and not acting like he’s too popular to be paired up with up with her. At least he doesn’t have Sammul Chan’s attitude because he got paired with Charmaine, and then people like Natalie or Shirley. Kevin seems willing to help his juniors, which I feel is a good thing!
@Aly, Selena will be playing a career-minded woman in here. It’s prolly because this scene is a one-sided kissing scene here so you see her as being rebellious.
TVB has no strong/good leading actresses, but unfortunately they are constantly being used in TVB’s productions. As an audience, it is so sad. I missed the 90’s main actresses, they were good compared to now-a-day’s ones.
was the fadans of the 90s so much better? there were only a few leading ones as well. but i agree with it’s a downward trend with regards to the quality of the fadans. i give kate a couple of years and i think she will be gone. the same with nancy and many others…

Give them a couple of years? They have been with TVB a couple of years already and they are still around. In fact, Nancy has been with TVB for 10 years already.
I don’t know if you have watched the stuff in the 90’s, fandans from those days were:Jessica Hsu,Ada Choi,Flora Chan,Esther Kwan,Amy Kwon,Kenix Kwok,(just to name a few that are on top of my head right now) were good in their roles and acting. I really enjoyed their work. Yes, I agree with you and Kidd. These younger fadans will be around…I choice not to see the stuff that has certain fadans, because I can’t stand them!
I’m not sure how Kevin and Selena’s chemistry will fare in here, but since Kenneth and Selena has been in so many series together, it’s likely that they would have stronger chemistry.
I feel like Kevin is more of Selena’s type. Furthermore, if Kenneth and Selena had mutual feelings for each other, they would have been together already, won’t they?

The interest in a celebrity couple is usually higher if there is a degree of mystery involved, where audiences see the chemistry but are left uncertain as to whether there are truly dating or not. The artists, such as Bernice and Moses, kept the audience guessing for years.
If TVB indeed wish to package Selena and Kevin as a celebrity couple, Kevin’s blunt answer that he was following company orders took away any mystery of the pairing. His answer made it sound like it was only business and no romantic sparks.
I’ll rather TVB promote the following celebrity couples instead:
Selena Li and Kenneth Ma
Ron Ng and Tavia Yeung
Him Law and Mandy Wong
Raymond Lam and Kate Tsui (who resembles Mavis Pan in a way)
vincent Wong and Yoyo Chen

Vincent and Yoyo is a real couple. TVB won’t promote the real couple this way.
In term of look, I support LF and Linda :P. They look matchy on screen. However, their scandal is kinda annoying.
Also in term of look, I’d like to see Ron and Kate because they looks matchy. They are in a lot of series together.

@Jayne: I agreed with you the pairing of Kenneth and Selena, I see Tavia with Kevin because Tavia’s acting and her looks are on the mature side, same goes with Kevin. Somehow,the best onscreen female to pair with Raymond is Linda, I don’t see anyone taking her place. I wouldn’t mind seeing Vincent Wong and Natalie together. I also agreed with you about Ron and Kate, they totally match with their “bad boy and girl images”.
Let’s give these two, Kevin and Selina, a chance to show their “chemistry” in The Boxing King. I suppose it was only to stop people speculating too much over their relationship that he made those remarks about “company’s orders” etc.He seems to me a litle over cautious. When they act I hope he throws caution out the window and show whether there is this “chemistry” or not. He has acted with Selina before, as in The Most Beautiful 7th Day and was one of the guests whom she invited for the opening of her beauty shop. That was why he complimented her on not only her good looks but also on her prowess as a business woman. She had also indicated that she didn’t mind having more kiss scenes with him. After all, as she said, “He is handsome!” Hope their pairing is a success.

TVB, please bring back veterans to lead the series. I’m tired of seeing the same faces over and over and over!
TVB should be more desperate to replace their scriptwriters. There has been returning veterans all these years, but their series still aren’t memorable without a good script.

So far, I’ve seen the best pairing in Kevin and Niki. They really look good together. Niki adores Kevin, no doubt about that, and ultimately their kissing, perfect!
