Teresa Mo Experienced 3 Marriages: Happiness Was Always Beside Her

Fifty-nine-year-old Teresa Mo (毛舜筠) is living a fantastic life. Winning Best Actress at the 2018 Hong Kong Film Awards for Tomorrow is Another Day <黃金花> and recently opening up a cookie store with her husband Tony Au (區丁平), Teresa is also a Le Cordon Bleu chef. In a recent interview, Teresa spoke about her three marriages and her early days as a TVB actress.

Three Marriages

Teresa has definitely been through a lot in past relationships to find her current happiness. When she was 17 years old, she and Leslie Cheung (張國榮) had a puppy love relationship in which she rejected Leslie’s marriage proposal. At the age of 21, she married her first husband, Man Shu Yeun (文舒揚), which lasted for three years. Then she married her second husband, Jeffrey Chiang (蔣家駿), which ended after five years. Finally, she found the love of her life, art director Tony Au, whom she actually knew for a very long time before dating. It turns out that happiness was always beside her if she had reached out to Tony earlier.

Asked if Leslie was the one who introduced her to Tony, she said, “Of course not! When I first heard the news, I thought it was really funny. But I guess you can say that our matchmaker was actually Vicky Leung (梁李少霞). To be honest, we didn’t really need someone to introduce us because we always saw each other at socials. But Mrs. Leung did see that I was single and told me to have dinner with Tony. Leslie was definitely not involved, but he was very happy for me during my wedding!”

Marriage has changed Teresa as she became an accomplished chef for the love of her husband. “Tony doesn’t like to go out and eat, but I didn’t know how to cook. So I asked my friend, Mrs. Leung, to teach me a dish every day…And now I’ve been in the kitchen for 24 years. I will cook whenever I don’t have to go to work.” Teresa likes to compare her love for acting to cooking; she loves the feeling of success when her fans or family members enjoy her hard work.

Teresa’s love for her husband has grown over time to become love for a family member. “It’s metamorphosed to another level like a multifaceted stone. After our 24-year union, we thoroughly understand each other’s personalities, similar to the comfort level of pajamas and slippers. If we know something will irritate the other person, we won’t say it. He loves to eat, so I always cook for him.”

Difficulty in Filming with TVB

Teresa has already been in the industry for 40 years and she has seen it all. Speaking about her early career in television, she said, “Filming [at TVB] was very exhausting due to the nonstop hours. There were many roles that I didn’t choose or want to do, but I had to do it regardless. Each drama had several directors and scriptwriters. The filming hours are very long, and there isn’t even time to sleep, so forget about analyzing the role or connecting the parts we have to play. It’s hard to find someone to talk about it, and these problems frequently happened. Yes, it was tough, but because of these 40 years of acting experience, there isn’t much I haven’t seen.”
