Andy Lau Became More Attentive to Family after Filming “Lost and Love”

In the upcoming movie, Lost and Love <失孤>, Andy Lau (劉德華) portrays a farmer who is searching for his abducted son. At a recent press conference, Andy shared that because of this film, he became even more attentive to the safety of his family.

Lost and Love, which tells the story of how farmer Lei Zekuan (Andy Lau) and car mechanic Zeng Shuai (Jing Boran 井柏然) search for their missing family members, may seem like it involved a low-action, low-risk filming process. In reality, however, Andy said that two scenes in particular stood out to him because of how dangerous they were.

The first scene was when Lei Zekuan is being slapped in the face. Because director Peng Sanyuan (彭三源) wanted the sound of each slap to ring clearly in viewers’ ears, Andy kept redoing the scene until his face became swollen. The second painful scene involved a traffic accident between a motorcycle and a big truck, which the crew filmed live. “Luckily, I protected myself on the set, otherwise I would have died,” said Andy.

Known for being very protective of his wife and daughter, Andy said that filming Lost and Love made him even more attentive to his family’s safety. He revealed that in order to prevent the possibility of abduction, he would never bring his daughter to a place with many people.

Many fans feel that Andy’s depiction of an unsophisticated, down-to-earth farmer, which is very unlike his previous movie roles, marks his greatest acting breakthrough in recent years. However, early-round viewers also expressed confusion at Lost and Love’s ending. In response, Andy said, “I believe the ending represents a person’s conviction. As long as he is looking for it, he will definitely find it.”

Lost and Love opens in theaters in Mainland China on March 20 and in Hong Kong on March 26. The film will also have a limited release in North America and Canada starting March 20.
