The 2012 Miss Hong Kong Pageant first round of interviews was held on Monday, May 14th. Since this year will be the 40th anniversary of the Miss Hong Kong, TVB announced that the contestants will fly to London for a special filming segment! The Miss Hong Kong Pageant will take place on August 26, 2012.
TVB’s Director of Production, Sandy Yu (余詠珊), announced that there was a 10% increase in applications received for this year’s Miss Hong Kong Pageant. Although 200 applications were received, only 135 candidates met with the selection committee. A pool of 40 candidates will be selected after an interview session in which they appear in swimsuits. From the overseas pool of applicants, 10 women will be chosen. Finally, the number of candidates will be narrowed down to 12 women who will compete in the 2012 Miss Hong Kong Pageant.
Few Beauties Seen; Plastic Surgery Spotted
Among the 135 women present at the initial interview for the 2012 Miss Hong Kong Pageant, there were few beauties. Many candidates were on the short side, with one applicant only 5 feet 2 inches tall! One applicant even revealed a large tattoo on her back! Many women chose to wear white dresses, apparently eager to showcase their elegant and demure side.
The handful of women who captured the media’s early notice included dimpled 25-year-old, Cindy (pictured in left photo), who resembled Taiwanese actress, Annie Liu, (劉心悠). Joyce (pictured in above right photo) was considered to be a Kathy Chow (周海媚) look-a-like and was quite cool in her demeanor.
Hailing from Wuhan, 19-year-old Serena (above left) resembled Ron Ng’s (吳卓羲) girlfriend, Viann Zhang (張馨予) closely. Serena’s looks appeared to have received some plastic surgery enhancements. 22-year-old Wing (above right) was quite tall and possessed an easy confidence in her demeanor after being a professional model for 3 years.
Another early favorite with the press was Gloria (above left), whose sweet and innocent looks were quickly noticed. Christy (above right) resembled Taiwanese actress, Michelle Chen (陈妍希), but Christy’s dress was criticized as resembling a nightgown. Both Gloria and Christy appeared to be quite shy before the media.

Jayne: Actually, I spotted a few cute faces in the video clip. I like the “Sire Ma” look-a-like (in video clip 0:39), although I find her to resemble Angela Pang more. She looks better in the video than in the photo, although her height appears to be average and her figure does not stand out.
The tall girl in 0:57 has a pretty face, although terrible fashion taste. The girl in 1:01 has a sweet smile too. The girl in the green shirt in 3:22 is very pretty as well.

I think Wing will make it into the 12 contestants. She seems to have the outgoing cheerfulness that makes her stand out.
You should watch the video clip; more representative of the range in women who applied. The photos were just a random pool of photos, not necessarily the prettiest.

The overseas contestants have not been unveiled yet. Perhaps we will get some high quality contestants as well. Some of the girls look very young. More demure types this year. Many wore nice eye makeup and knew how to accentuate their eyes.

Dimpled girl reminds me of Fala, so she is cute. That supposed viann lookalike looks pretty but in an empty sort of way. The rest looks like they belong in a rugby team, and I know a few months after the pageant they will all be skinny-fied. But the looks are all so manly. Not pretty at all. Hopefully they have better personality.

Hmm don’t think it’s due to genetics that Korean female artists are more curvy. It’s likely the fact that the Korean entertainment circle appreciate curvy women.
Look at TVB fadans almost all of them are super-skinny e.g. Kate, TY, Fala etc
The doggies in HK are also gulity in creating this trend when they harass female artists for being fat/overweight when they are perfectly normal.

What I mean is after the pageant and once they enter TVB formally, they will all get skinnier, skinnier, skinnier, skinnier. Doesn’t matter if they’re slim now, they will get skinnier. And some in the pictures do look bigger than the TVB artistes but no worries; TVB and HK’s weird public opinion will make them skinnier, flat chested, flat bummed and then they will be called pretty.

Yes, you should also include the girl with dark glasses. It was very disrespectful for her to go onstage of a national beauty contest wearing a pair of dark glasses. The producer shouldn’t have even allowed her to go on stage.The two least beautiful ones are 2.41 and 4.32

What so good about WING??? Nth special at all. Like every normal girl on the MK street. The way she dress+the color of her skin makes her look like a MK street girl. Almost everyone can be a model in HK, what so special?

Yea, hopefully they can! Wish the women good luck! I think Serena will become one of the final 12 contestants, although TVB judging panel tend to not pick winners who lookly heavily plastic. Serena might get signed by TVB, but I do not think she will win.
I’ll cut some of the women some slack. Not all of us are brave enough to ever enter a beauty contest and be open to all criticism, so kudos to them for chasing their dreams.
As usual, this beauty contest does not have any gals stand out! It’s like a heaven and earth when compares to toronto or vancouver chinese beauty contest…..

I actually think the first 3 girls in the video look the best, which is the Fala/Annie Liu lookalike, and I think the 3rd girl in the video wearing the black blazer and shorts has nice features. Wing is ok too.
I think if the girls did their makeup on their own, then they did a decent job considering they didn’t get any “makeovers” yet. Most of them know how to do their makeup, maybe that’s why this batch seems more decent than past years at the first round interviews.
no one here above can impress me they are all mediocore. not that im coky or what,but only because im exacting about the word of “beauty”. first you must have a natural charismatic aura, sexy but cute,fotogenic,smart,benevolent,eloquent,and genuine. my favourite miss hong kong of all time is Angie Chiu.hahaha…

One looks like a corpse, another like a very pretending, another very forceful, another desperate for sympathy while the rest do not look better than a prostitute…..
Now, I have not much good boobs to see from them since mostly of them are either A or B cups………..We’ll expect something more exotic to see from their body right after the beauty competition…….as everyone rushing to inject botox into their boobs…..

some girls wear the weirdiest thing. one wore short shorts over sheer stockings? there’s one with a green flowery grandma blouse, and there’s one wearing sunnies, halter neck bikini with a boob tube, cons chuck taylors with black socks, the tattoo girl with a one piece dangling plait, skinny leg jeans with a tshirt, denim shorts.
don’t understand why the photographs would waste their film on some of these random girls. waste of time. some are pretty tho. not all but some.
Totally second you Fez! Whatever happened to class?! These girls should take more pride in their appearance and seriously, some of you are right.. Only 2 or 3 are worthy to be on stage and the rest can be written off as pork chops..
