Miss Hong Kong 2012: Xaviera Yau’s Drunk Photos Exposed

The 2012 Miss Hong Kong Pageant pageant was marred by frequent rumors which portrayed the contestants in negative light. After the leaked nude photos of Kayley Chung (鍾麗) with her boyfriend and Cynthia Tsang’s (曾明俐) cosplay photos flavored with sadomasochistic themesXaviera Yau’s (尤蔭蔭) drunk photos emerged this week! Already criticized for her plain looks in the past, Xaviera’s drunk photos were blasted by netizens for lacking the grace of a Miss Hong Kong contestant!

TVB hoped to incorporate more sensational elements in its 2012 Miss Hong Kong Pageant this year by incorporating reality TV elements. The paparazzi’s determination to find out the most scandalous elements of the contestants’ background have certainly fueled more heated discussion. Will the winner of the year’s pageant be the “cleanest” candidate with no negative rumors?

When the Miss Hong Kong contestants traveled to London to film a special travel segment for the pageant, Roxanne Tong (湯洛雯) was an unhygienic bully, making roommate, Melanie McAndrew (李渼琦) pick up her underwear! It was suspected that Xaviera Yau  had leaked to the press Roxanne and Melanie’s dispute, allegedly to sully other candidates’ reputations.

The vicious cycle of negative gossip appeared to have spread wider. In Xaviera’s drunk photos, she was seen hugging a Jack Daniels whiskey bottle. Her uninhibited expressions were quickly branded as “ugly” by the press. Netizens exclaimed that a contestant who bore a drinking habit lacked grace and elegance, sullying the reputation of the Miss Hong Kong Pageant! It was speculated that the emergence of Xaviera’s drunk photos will result in her being eliminated from the pageant.

Jayne: Are drunk and clubbing photos inevitable these days? If anyone has done such things, then the likelihood of taking similiar photos are high. The existence of the photos do not mean that Xaviera Yau has a drinking habit; she may be a social drinker.

Despite TVB’s grand plans in marketing the 40th Anniversary of the Miss Hong Kong Pageant this year, the 14 contestants have come under fire as being poor in quality. When the bikini photos of the contestants were unveiled earlier this week, Hong Kong tabloids criticized the contestants for their flat chests and flabby abdomens. Director Wong Jing (王晶) blasted TVB, “If there are no [hot] women, then do not organize the pageant!”

  1. No one is perfect eh? Surprise? No I am not. She is just having fun. But yes she lacks the grace and whatever nonsense Miss Hk says they represent when they never do.

  2. People are beginning to see the power of the internet when it comes to things like this. There is no privacy on the net, and thing you post will come back to haunt you.

It always amazes me that people will place family photos on Facebook or other social networking sites and give complete details of their day or what they are doing. I’m fairly certain these same people would NOT get on a city bus, sit down beside a stranger and start sharing family photos of telling them all about their life, and yet they are willing to do it on the internet.

A picture is worth 1000 words they say… I’m not sure exactly what Xaviera’s words are saying, but I suspect she wasn’t a favourite to win the pageant anyway.

  3. I think this is ridiculous! When is having fun with friends and taking some silly pictures become a crime. Who has not done silly things in their youth?

    1. Yes but Miss HK is supposed to have class and unfortunately being drunk isn’t one of them. But if this is what TVB aims for I am afraid it is a lost cause with all these.. are these Kong lui?

  4. Her looks doesn’t scream pageant material anyway.

  5. Ha. I think that TVB is just reaping what they sowed now, with their ‘let’s turn Miss HK into a reality show!’ schtick. Many reality shows in the US are focused on showing people in their least favorable light… why would it be any different for Miss HK?

    1. but MS HK represents the country, so it generally represent the ppl of hk too. I don’t think Hkers will accept such wild party image since most of them r still pretty conservative in thinking.

  6. Hope she wins. Jack Daniels should sponsor the pageant.

    1. Larry,
“Hope she wins. Jack Daniels should sponsor the pageant.”

That would be a “Girls Gone Wild” pageant.

      1. That will be better then last year’s quality.

      2. I am afraid Jack Daniels will say we want a classy representative.

  7. OMG! Her pictures are hilarious! They certainly aren’t racy or offensive. I think that if she is disqualified to be a Miss HK contestant, then it shouldn’t be because of these pictures. Among all of these contestants, it is nice to seem some personality pop up here and there.

One can be a social drinker and still be “pure” at heart, anyway. hahaha. I am sorry, but some of those netizens need to lighten up.

  8. I don’t have a good impression of Xaviera Yau after the fiasco with Roxanne Tong and Melanie McAndrew. She badmouthed Roxanne more than the Melanie who is the supposed victim of the bullying. She seem like a troublemaker.

  9. she should get kicked out for acting like a buffoon!

  10. I think that XAVIERA is very beautiful with those funny photos.

She shouldn’t be kicked out for such lame reason!

She should be applauded/appreciated for her genuine efforts of trying to be NATURAL/spontaneous!!

Certainly, she’s not a pageant material but she’s definitely a beauty material. Who says a pretty gal must enter & win the pageant in order to prove that she’s beautiful ??

  11. If she enlarges her booobss abit, I can assure you that she can definitely be a well-recognized seexx symbol!

  12. Clean image? Watching dramas and pageant girls are always portrayed as sleeping around with big bosses. Why act like a pageant winner should be pure and clean on a show then smear their careers in dramas? Weird.

  13. The top 9 contestants are out.
    Christy Chan
    Wingto Lam
    Roxanne Tong
    Cynthia Tsang
    Jacqueline Wong
    Tracy Chu
    Carat Cheung
    Melanie McAndrew
    Jennifer Shum

Seems that all the popular contestants got through. Based on how much the girls were featured in the Miss Hong Kong London Featurette, the last contestant should be Penelope Pin or Amy Cheung.

    1. I can’t believe Penelope didn’t make the final 9… really disappointing. I guess she doesn’t have enough scandals or friends in high places to keep MHK judges happy.

      1. I think Penelope should be the 10th contestant, she seems rather popular. The only thing is that she’s really short so idk.

      2. Nicole,
Who do you think has a good chance to win the crown?

This year’s pageant has too much of an “America’s Next Top Model” feel to me, especially the slander and overly negative gossip about the women.

      3. Indeed, after following the reality show format, there is definitely more scandals brought to our notice, but we can also get a feel of their personalities from the show. As some contestants just blend into the background.

Miss Hong Kong, besides looking for a pageant winner, is a springboard for girls to get their foot into TVB. Thus, while some of the contestants look good on screen, but when they open their mouths, it makes me just want to shrivel up and cry, like Melanie (she drones on in a very flat voice), and Gloria (who is very, very squeaky).

My favourite contestant at the moment is Wingto, as she is really cute, pretty, confident and have a good figure, but I don’t really see her as Miss Hong Kong, but she will definitely do well as an actress.
