New Generation of Rising Actors in China
A new generation of Chinese actors are dominating search rankings and having increased digital influence. Due to the airing of their popular dramas, Deng Lun (鄧倫), Li Xian (李現), Xiao Zhan (肖戰) and Wang Yibo (王一博) are topping digital rankings every day. They have officially replaced the old digital traffic kings Kris Wu (吳亦凡), Luhan (鹿晗), Yang Yang (楊洋) and Li Yifeng (李易峰).
Similar to Deng Lun and Li Xian, Yang Yang and Li Yifeng came into recognition and experienced boosts in popularity through their idol dramas. Yifeng succeeded with his performance in The Sword of Legends <古劍奇譚> in 2014, and swooped many most popular and most valuable actor awards. Possessing a college senior feeling, Yifeng was considered the nation’s school prince and had a huge fanbase. However now 32, he no longer presents such a feeling, and adding to the lack of drama productions since 2016, his popularity has decreased significantly.
Yang Yang also experienced the same situation with his breakout role in Love O2O <微微一笑很傾城>. But after a year, his comeback with Martial Universe <武動乾坤> had poor rating results. Despite a fall in popularity, the actor is starting to explore more diversified roles such as in military idol drama The Glory of the Special Forces <特戰榮耀>.
Both Kris and Luhan first gained fame through their involvement in Korean pop group EXO. Afterward, they launched successful solo careers in China. Kris concentrated on movies and music, while Luhan focused on dramas and variety shows. Although their projects are abundant, none of their recent works is considered to be a major hit. Besides, they are no longer considered “Little Fresh Meat” as they are approaching 30.
The new generation of actors all have their own representative works. Deng Lun is well-loved after his performance in Ashes of Love <香蜜沉沉燼如霜> and has 35 million Weibo followers. Li Xian is currently China’s hottest idol actor after Go Go Squid <親愛的熱愛的>, and Xiao Zhan and Yibo are highly shipped for their bromance in The Untamed <陳情令>.

@m0m0 Yang Yang is only 27 and also declining? Hum… That’s actually sad even thou I have never watched anything he’s in but he’s still quite cute. haha
@m0m0 fresh veggies and meat don’t stay fresh that long either irl xD so these fresh meat definitely can’t be different xD fresh meat that isn’t handled well will become stale meat, like lu Han and kris wu lol
At least some of the new generation actors can act. I like deng luan in most of his old dramas. Kris, Luhan and yang yang cant act.
Not saying that they can’t act, but the common point between Deng Lun(鄧倫) and Li Xian’s (李現) popularity boosts is cause those dramas had Andy Yang (杨紫) as main actress. She is super super popular so the male leads are often in the spotlight after their drama airs.
I quite like Deng Lun though, he gets more pleasing to the eyes the more you watch him
Very true!! Sometimes it’s really about luck on who you paired up with. I mean Li Xian has been in the business for a long while and he has always been supporting or had a lead but never memorable even thou he is always the cuter one. This lead role was just his lucky break that made people love his character and search about him after the show.
It seems Chinese celebrities are entering the over-saturation levels of South Korea, where “celebrities” don’t last very long.
