William Chan’s “Dancing in the Storm” Already Earned 590 Million Yuan

It’s been two years since William Chan’s (陈伟霆) last appeared in a mainland Chinese TV drama, but the actor-singer is still as popular as ever.

In 2018, William completed the filming of upcoming Chinese TV drama Dancing in the Storm <风暴舞>, a crime drama series about a man being framed by his employer. The drama was delayed several times before it was finally announced that it would be scheduled for release in 2020.

Despite it being a delayed release, many investors are still very interested in the series. According to the annual report released by Dancing in the Storm’s production studio Ciwen Media, Dancing in the Storm attracted the most investors in 2019, earning over 590 million yuan. The revenue earned from the unaired series occupied half of the studio’s total earnings of the year. That number alone helped the studio recovered the earnings lost from previous seasons.

Other dramas very popular with investors included Under the Power <锦衣之下>, Death Notify 3 <暗黑者3>, and Detective <侦探语录>.

Dancing in the Storm also stars Gülnezer Bextiyar (古力娜扎), Simon Yam (任达华), and Song Yanfei (宋妍霏).

  1. Never understood the appeal of William Chan, Wallace Chung, and Hawick Lau to msinland audience. They are all average looking, Chan actually has a “pig nose” and is unattractive. Their combined acting is horrendous. Hawick Lau is dull in ever role he acts. Wallace never meant a role he couldn’t turn into a caricature, the man does not know the subtlety of acting. William. at best should be a secondary lead. He is not charismatic, enaging, or convincing in any of his roles. That “pig nose” (those nostril) .. ugh.

    1. @seriously

I don’t understand HKers hate for William Chan. I already like him when he was still playing supporting roles in HK movies. I think he’s pretty good looking with decent acting skill and can be quite charming in the right role.

As for Wallace Chung. I think he’s a very good actor. He’s already good when he’s still with TVB. Just watch him play a retarded boy in ‘Journey of Love’. Very convincing.

  2. I am so looking forward to this, they kept saying it is going to be released soon but end up it didn’t. I think there are some issues with the censorship board over its content perhaps?

  3. Why are China dramas all so long? I want to check this out for Dong Yanlei. But the number of episodes (50) scares me.

I think I’ll go check out My Youth first.
