Cai Xukun Entangled In Another Contract Dispute with Former Agency

Winner of popular idol training reality show Idol Producer <偶像練習生>, Chinese singer Cai Xukun (蔡徐坤) has been sued for contract breach by his former agency, which is seeking a compensation sum of 45 million RMB (55 million HKD).

Not the First Time He Has Been Sued by Pelias

According to Pelias Entertainment, the 23-year-old star, who entered the entertainment industry after snagging the highest number of popular votes, had signed an exclusive contract with them back in 2015. Pelias is therefore accusing him of breaching contractual terms when he took part in the 2019 talent show as an individual contestant, while still under contract. Both sides have since exchanged evidence in court during the first hearing on September 17, with the next court hearing scheduled for November 10.

As per the Shanghai Higher People’s Court, the plaintiff Pelias Entertainment has sued the star numerous times prior to the most recent legal face-off. Next month’s second hearing will be the last before the final verdict.

Also known by his stage name “Kun”, Cai Xukun is one of C-pop’s biggest stars, and has over 30 million Weibo fans and 1.8 million Instagram followers.
