Jacky Cheung Denies Cheating in Marriage

Jacky Cheung (張學友) and his wife May Lo (羅美薇) are regarded as one of Hong Kong’s golden couples. However, recent reports claimed Jacky may be cheating on his wife with his assistant, Julia.

In their 17-year relationship, May reportedly governed the Cheung household strictly, preventing Jacky to keep dogs as pets at home and only allowing English to be spoken at home so their daughters can become more proficient in the language. With May in England, has Julia become Jacky’s new woman by his side?

Julia became Jacky’s assistant in 2010 when she recommended herself for the job. Before becoming his assistant, Julia was widely known to be a massive fan of the pop star. Having been in his Taiwan fan club for over 20 years, it was a dream come true for Julia when she transitioned as Jacky’s close personal assistant.

Roughly half a year ago, it was speculated that Julia successfully gained access to Jacky’s mother’s large complex apartment to take care of the elderly Mrs. Cheung. Julia also acted as a nanny for Jacky’s younger daughter. As Julia gained increased status within the Cheung household, she allegedly forced out two of Jacky’s former assistants and even May’s chauffeur.

While Julia has been stepping her foot into the Cheung household, May was nowhere to be seen. An insider revealed that May is currently in England under the pretense of finding schools and preparing for her daughters’ education, but in reality, she is taking time off to relax.

At a press conference in Malaysia on November 8, Jacky dispelled the rumors that he has any romantic ties with Julia. He expressed that the relationship with his assistant “is purely based on work and friendship” and that the rumors have damaged his assistant’s reputation.

  1. Fabricated news I hope. After the whole Sire Ma incident, I find these reporters tend to be right.

I really like the golden couple so I hope this was just a silly rumor out of boredom. If it’s true, it’s a major shocker for me ….

    1. Tabloids aren’t always right….I can give you many instances of them being wrong…in fact, here are a few that come to mind: remember that instance when the tabloids photographed Tony Leung Ka Fai picking up a young woman from the airport and because he hugged her and kissed her on the cheek, the tabloids claimed that he was having an affair with the woman? Well, turned out that ‘woman’ was his daughter….she was returning from a trip and he went to pick her up….oops! Or that time when Damian Lau was walking with a woman in the street and because he was holding her arm (not her hand, mind you, but the upper part of her arm), the tabloids ‘wrote’ that he must have some sort of love affair with that woman. Turns out that woman was his relative visiting from out of town and he was holding her arm because he was trying to be a gentleman, since she was pregnant and he had an obligation to her husband to watch over her. Or the instance involving Bobby Auyeung from a few years ago — remember when he was photographed partying with friends and the tabloids claim he was having an affair because there was another woman in the picture who wasn’t his wife? Well, turns out his wife was right there with him, it’s just that she wasn’t in that particular picture….and the ‘other woman’ was a family friend who came to visit them and they were taking her out. (I loved Bobby’s reaction at the time though…he told his wife to make sure she puts on makeup every time she goes out, even if it’s only to walk the dog or get the mail because she might get followed by gossip reporters at any time…LOL).

What I’m trying to get at is that these types of gossip stories happen all the time and just because they are printed in some magazine doesn’t mean they are true. It’s up to the readers to ‘vet’ the stories and figure out for themselves whether to believe or not.

      1. Agreed, most tabloids are rubbish. And, I don’t believe Jacky Cheung cheated on May with Julia.

      2. “As Julia gained increased status within the Cheung household, she allegedly forced out two of Jacky’s former assistants and even May’s chauffeur.”

Maybe someone is spewing out vindictive venom?

  2. I hope this is not true and only a gossip, Jacky known as a good husband and father.

    1. I also hope that this is not true and is only gossip too. However, anything is possible these days and the unexpected happens in this circle and life all the time. I used to think certain things can never happen but then it just happens. Life is truly unpredictable.

      1. HeTieShou, very, well put. I too respect Jackie Cheung, and I will be disappointed in him as he seem so in love with his wife, and paints the picture of a good, loving caring husband and father

However, it will not surprise me, as there are so many strange things in the lives of the entertainers out there. Again, very wisely said.

      2. I agree HeTieShou. Anything is possible, but I hope it’s not true or I’ll be really disappointed in Jacky.

      3. Thanks Trini! I have learned to be more open to things and expect the unexpected since nothing in life seems to be a guarantee anymore. You can be happily married for many years and end up in divorce. Just like with one of my other favorites, Vincent Jiao. I have always thought that he will always be happily married until one day, his wife wanted to divorce him. Now he no longer has that happy family that he worked so hard to maintain. Vincent is also a good and loving husband and father. But sadly, things do not always turn out the way that we want it to.

    2. Again, it’s up to people what they want to believe. It’s easy for tabloid reporters to write whatever they want…the pen is in their hands, after all. Even if the artists clarify, there will still be people out there who will still believe the gossip as truth….that’s the way the industry works.

I’m not here to defend Jacky because to me, there’s no need to do so, since those of us who know him well will likely have the same reaction that I did (which was to laugh at the reporters for publishing such a silly story). To me, Jacky’s good track record is the best proof there is….

    3. I agree too I hope this isn’t true since Jacky has always have this clean image in my eyes and it’s disappointing.

    1. You are right. Jacky Cheung might have learned it from Alan Tam. Bad example of Alan Tam!

      1. Alan Tam may have set a bad example. Don’t understand why people still call him Principal Tam

      2. Please…

Alan Tam didn’t invent cheating or adultery. Just because someone has set a bad example doesn’t mean others have to follow suit. Blaming Alan Tam is just ignorant.

      3. Alan Tam’s wife approved since she couldn’t give him a son. He never left his wife. So I wonder, baby mama is just .. baby mama? Or out of loyalty to wife?

      4. @sandcherry: Nope….Jacky and Alan aren’t even close so there’s no need to ‘learn’ from him. Besides, Alan didn’t exactly cheat….he got ‘approval’ so to speak from his wife because she couldn’t bear him a son. Also, he treats both his ‘wives’ equally well…besides, he has never denied his relationship or the existence of his mistress and son….he just keeps it low profile. But that’s a whole different story altogether….nothing to do with Jacky at all, just thought I’d comment because you guys mentioned it….

      5. Wow! The wife gave him approval to cheat on her. That’s pathetic! If someone loves his wife or has any integrity would not have affair outside of marriage even the spouse approves of such practice.

      6. Leilafan said it well, only time will tell, the truth will be out someday. Anyway, we know that the paparazzi is notorious for spinning up stories. Agree with M Lee about Alan Tam and his wife. Procreation is not a valid reason for cheating. I know lots of childless couples and their husbands don’t use this as an excuse to have other women bear their children. I guess AT’s wife had no choice but to say that she “approved”, it’s a PR gimmick on damage control.

      7. I don’t think Alan Tam’s wife gave Alan permission to cheat. I heard that she was very upset but she couldn’t do anything as Alan’s mistress already gave birth to Alan’s only son. She just gave up and devoted herself to Buddhism.

      8. Honestly, I don’t think any female out there is okay with having to split her husband with another female. It’s a lot easier to accept being apart or broken up with the man you love than to accept sharing the man you love. I believe in many things in this world, even the impossible I am willing to believe with the exception of sharing your husband.

  3. I do not care for Alan Tam, but if this is true, do not blame it on Alan Tam. Jackie Cheung , and every man and woman out there, celebrity or not, is responsible for his and her own action.

  4. you never hear of this happening with old actors who don’t have a load of money – it happened to Kenny Bee and Alan Tam but not to the poorer members of the band. No one is throwing themselves at Felix Wong offering to schedule his appointments for him.

    1. I think with Kenny Bee’s ex wife was a big spendthrift who made him bankrupt that was why he divorced her. Don’t think he cheated his wife but his ex wife is known for splurging money on luxury goods etc.

      1. Yea, I think that what happened back then. Not only Kenny Bee, she also made the man after Kenny filed for bankruptcy too. On top of that she was pursuing him knowing he was married and his wife was dying of cancer.

      2. Isn’t the timeline just being ignored because the reporters preferred the cheating husband to the overseas returnee wife who dressed too well compared to most HK celebs? – he never contradicted the wife’s interview before her loud public appearances with that married man – she told the reporters that he was cheating with his assistant for a long time and causing her the typical HK wife’s distress but she didn’t get any sympathy for it because she then appeared with that white haired guy because people didn’t feel that she was being manipulated by that white haired guy. She got played and is being punished for it instead of anyone feeling sorry for her – I am pretty neutral – but I don’t feel biased against her. I feel bad for Lom Geet Ying but I also feel bad for this first wife – she never answered the press cleverly but came off as uncalculating and obtuse to her disadvantage. The press COULD have been kind to her – they chose not to be. Kenny Bee’s old band still is a sentimental favorite in Hong Kong.

Maybe – it is not true – and Fan Geung is actually the mother of Kenny Bee’s first two children as well – otherwise this is an example of injustice.

The first wife’s greatest failing is her cluelessness and inability to engage in combat. She’s just wooly headed and appearing in public as shopping whereas someone with a less photogenic, more Yuet face who shops way more would not be followed around and photographed because they wouldn’t be as interesting. Fan Geung is not that interesting looking but she is still very fit but that doesn’t ignire the ire of the female reporters.

    2. Felix Wong did get involved with another TVB actress, Kung Chi Yan, before he got married. His relationship with Leung Kit Wah was almost done for good.

      1. But that was when he and Leung kit Wah broke up for a brief time period, so you cannot consider that cheating. I also like Mimi as an actress and she is now happily married to Taiwanese actor Lin Wei. I am glad that they have both found their happiness.

      2. Which Mimi?

I think Leung Kit-Wah broke up with Felix Wong because of his relationship with Kung Chi Yan.

      3. Kung chi yan’s English name is Mimi. I am not sure if that was the case but then again none of us know for sure. However, the version that I heard was that Felix and Leung kit Wah briefly broke up so he dusted Mimi Kung for awhile and then came back to Leung kit Wah. It all the distant past now so it is not like it matters anymore. They are both happily married now so it is great that they both found their own happiness.

      4. Meant to “dated” . Gosh I need the edit button and it is a pain typing on the iPad mini.

      5. @HTS: That’s the version that I heard as well (Felix and Leung Kit Wah had broken up and he had dated Mimi briefly during that time period). In fact, one of the “Screen Idol” magazines that I still have from the 80s has an interview with Felix in it where he talks about this (he also did a ‘follow up’ interview in a subsequent issue after he and Leung Kit Wah reconciled).

In any case, like you said, that’s all in the past now and both are happily married.

  5. I hope this is not happening to Jacky too but again I do agree that anything is possible and hong yuet Loy fung mei pit mo yan! I remembered reading abt Brad and Angelina when he was still with Jen & I didn’t believe in the rumour at first but later found it to be true.

  6. What a big deal? Assistant company him for every trip and concert. He is man, got lust too.

    1. Yes, all men have lust, but there’s also something known as ‘self-control’ – sure, not all men have self-control, but Jacky is definitely one of them who does (especially after his bouts with gambling and alcohol addiction in the 80s, which taught him how important having self-control is).

Also, the ‘all men have lust’ statement reminded me of something that Natalis Chan said during his “Be My Guest” interview with Stephen Chan several years ago. Natalis is known for putting up an arrogant, ‘big-shot’ image and also has a bad mouth, which makes him come across as ‘flirty’ with women. When Stephen asked him about this, Nat said that the difference between words and action lies in self-control….he also made it very clear that he knows where his boundaries are – his wife Cecilia gave up her successful acting career to be with him and ever since they got together, she’s been his ‘good luck charm’ of sorts (from a career standpoint as well as other aspects of life). He knows that if he were to have an affair, not only would his wife leave him in a heartbeat, his entire career and reputation would be ruined as well – he said something along the lines of ‘Why would I risk losing a relationship and career that I spent more than 30 years building in exchange for one fleeting moment of lust? I may be arrogant, but I’m not stupid!’

Sure, most of us might not like Nat because of his arrogance and whatnot, but I definitely respect what he said about self-control. Not all men are ‘stupid’ enough to risk everything they have to satisfy their lust – unfortunately though, the mainstream Media is too ‘narrow-minded’ to understand this (hence the reason why there are so many ‘gossip’ stories that arise each time a male celebrity is photographed with a female who isn’t his wife/girlfriend).

  7. I would put most of the blame on the assistant if it was true. It’s obvious she has a “thing” for him. He’s got the rep of being a good husband and father so I seriously doubt he would stray if it were up to him. I’m sure he has experience with girls throwing themselves at him since he is a huge star. He knows better and probably has no desire since he has a great family life.

    – Having said that, girls can be very “persuasive” when they want to.
I don’t think it was a good idea to hire her, being that she is so obsessed with him. That is just asking for trouble IMO.

Props to her though for landing her dream job. I just hope she keeps it professional. If the stories are made up, I hope they both sue those mags for defamation.
I feel bad for his wife.
He is a responsible adult though, and I would trust his word over that of gossip magazines. His rep and talent are his career and I doubt he would do anything to harm either.

    1. Uh, unless Jacky was raped, he’s just as guilty as the assistant if he cheated.

    2. @Panzer.

You said you would put most of the blame on the assistant if this news turns out to be true???!!! I have a wake up and smell the coffee call for you. IT TAKES TWO PERSONS TO HAVE AN AFFAIR.

I too will be disappointed in Jackie if this is true as he is viewed as one of the few positive role models amongst celebrities worldwide. I like and respect the man, but I am not blind or living in a delusional bubble to the fact that celebrities do a lot of unsavoury things.

Yes these women can be pushy, and there is temptation out there, but not every man gives in. There are men out there who are tempted , but hard as it is, no pun intended, lol, they do not give in.

  8. Post of pic of the assistant and I’ll decide if Jacky cheated or not.

      1. I see the Julia pic. She appeared quite young, and she in his fan club for 20 years?
She must enter his fan club at a very young age, LOL!

    1. While I do agree with you Michael, sometimes appearance can be deceiving too. Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. Remember the case of the horse-face Camilla and Princess Diana (sorry to sound so insulting, but was really disgusted with that affair).

  9. He expressed that the relationship with his assistant “is purely based on work and friendship” and that the rumors have damaged his assistant’s reputation. ==== This is a fishy statement by Jacky.
Why do he care about damaged his assistant’s reputation? I am sure HIS reputation is more damage than her if this turn out true.
And also, it just based on works and “Friendship”? Ohhhh, so there is more than just work in here, Jacky and her are FRIENDS too.
This statement seem like he is defending her.
Wait and see, but I personally feel, this rumours might turn out true.

    1. Why can’t he defend her and care about his assistant’s reputation? I mean she could be married or engaged or has a boyfriend or friends where her reputation matters. And she may also really be his friend. I see nothing wrong in that.

      1. OK, then we will see if this is true or not. Times will let us know.
And for the assistant’s reputation. What I means was she is not famous, the tabloids don’t care about her reputation. I’m sure the public and the fans will care more about Jacky reputation.

    2. Agree with Funn, and it’s always mentioned even in dramas “reputation to a woman is very important”, this could be what Jacky meant.

    3. @Leilaf

The rumors could turn out to be true or not, but there is nothing wrong with Jackie defending his assistant’s reputation. And for your information, a person and their assistant can become good platonic friends.

    4. @Leilafan: why don’t you watch the clip of him responding to the issue first before trying to take one sentence out of his entire response and try to ‘interpret’ what he meant? This article actually did a bad job of recapping his response — he actually wasn’t even planning to say anything because there’s no need to, but since the reporters asked him when he was in Malaysia 2 days ago promoting his concert DVD, he took the chance to respond.

Why should Jacky ‘not care’ about his assistant’s reputation? And just because he defends her it means hat there must be something going on between them? What is the ‘right’ thing for him to do in this instance, throw his assistant under the bus or keep his distance from her? Making that statement tells me you have no clue what type of person Jacky is…..he’s right when he said that there isn’t a need for him to say much because those who know him will know the truth.

      1. OK, then we will see if this is true or not. Times will let us know.
And for the assistant’s reputation. What I means was she is not famous, the tabloids don’t care about her reputation. I’m sure the public and the fans will care more about Jacky reputation.

    5. Fishy statement? I disagree. Jacky doesn’t care about all these type of baseless rumors but if it involves people he knows, he feels he should clarify just for the sake of the other person. If he’s guilty, he’d have avoid talking about her all together.

I am really surprised at how many people believe in this…seriously!!! Jacky have such a clean image, unless there’s a solid proof, please don’t jump into conclusion so quickly.

  10. Would be very disappointed at him if this turns out to be true.

  11. Haha! I laughed when I read this. Anyone who knows Jacky knows the rumors are baseless. And no, May isn’t in England — she’s been in HK this entire time taking care of their youngest daughter Zia. Jacky was the one flying back and forth between England and HK to take care of his daughter.

Anyway, Jacky has already turned the matter over to his lawyers to deal with.

With that said, it’s amazing how many people read a story in gossip mags and automatically believe it’s true without taking he time to ‘vet, the story to see if it even makes sense.

    1. I hope what you’ve said is the true picture. I am a fan of Jacky because he is a talented performer. I truly hope that he hadn’t cheated on his wife, otherwise, my respect for him as a person would disappear despite his undeniable talents.

      1. Rest assured….I’m a fan of Jacky’s as well and have been for 22 years. Having followed him for many years and witnessed many of the ups and downs he’s had in career and life, I sure hope my words have more weight than some tabloid reporter’s. But of course, it’s not up to me to dictate what people should or shouldn’t believe….all I can do is do my best to clarify….what people choose to believe is up to them.

      2. Thanks for all of the info llwy12! But you know just because anyone is a long time fan does not mean that you truly know any singer/actor. I can say that I was a big fan of Jimmy Lin back then and followed all of his news and all, but in the end, I was really disappointed in him so no longer like him. Not to say that Jacky is like that, however, just want to tell you that even if you knew him personally, it is not a guarantee that you know him or anyone as well as you think you do. Anyways, really hope this is not true and if this rumour does not occur again then it is less believable. I have a lot of respect for Jacky as well but regardless of how big of a fan I am or anyone that is does not mean that I know him really really well, you know what I mean??? Regardless of how much I like anyone, I will not be blind to their faults and flaws because afterall, who is 100% perfect??

      3. @HTS: I definitely understand where you’re coming from and yes, what you say is also true. However, I also feel that there is a difference between being a ‘blind’ fan and being a ‘devoted’ one. Believe me, I’ll be the first to tell you what Jacky’s flaws are and of course, there are things he’s done in the past that I don’t approve of….I’m definitely not blind to his faults, but at the same time, that doesn’t mean that my opinion of him would change or waiver just because of baseless rumors or stories, especially since I’ve seen countless examples and “evidence” of him being a dedicated father and husband. That’s why I said earlier that Jacky’s good track record is the best proof of all…..let’s put it this way — why would people choose to believe ‘speculations’ from a gossip mag that has a bad track record (for one) and also doesn’t have any proof to ‘back up’ the speculations when they are tons of examples and ‘evidence’ to back up the opposite?

My whole point here isn’t to defend Jacky as a fan, as I’m sure most people who are familiar with my posts know that I’m the type who will speak out if I feel that clarification is needed, regardless of who the artist/person is (and over the years, I’ve even ‘defended’ people I dislike if I feel that they are being ‘wronged’ by the Media).

My point is actually to remind people to be ‘responsible readers’ — meaning to take everything you read with a grain of salt (though if it comes from a gossip mag, should probably read with 100 grains of salt..LOL). It doesn’t matter who the ‘subject’ of the stories are because to me, it’s more of an issue of ‘fairness’ than anything else.

      4. @llwy12,
Thanks for your message and I know what you mean and we all have to pretty much anything the media says with a grain of salt. However, I must say that generally( not referring to just this case but just talking in general here) if any of us are big fans of anyone, you to admit that we tend to be more bias and will give them the benefit of the doubt. But if it were someone we do not like, we would tend to believe the negative versus the positive. That is normal and which human being is not bias to some extent? What we know is just what we read or watch since none of us are from the circle or know any of them personally. I really agree with that it is best to be fair whether we like or dislike any particular artist.

    2. Thanks llwy12. I believe on you who’s a long time Jacky fan and Jacky more than the tabloids. Jacky won’t cheat on May with this woman.

  12. There will always be those crazy fan, like the one who was obsessed with Andy.

  13. Omg I hope this isn’t true. I’ll be very disappointed if Jacky really cheated on his wife. Jacky has always given me a model husband and father figure all I can remember and I’m shocked that this news come out!

  14. its definitely not true. He always potrayed the good husband and father image. Through out his career he has clean record.

  15. definitely fake news! jacky never got any bad press throughout his career and has always been a loving and loyal husband and father! why suddenly give him negative news now? shame media!

    1. on the other hand, becos he’s been squeaky clean all this while, maybe, just maybe……not saying it’s true of course but there’s always a possibility. There’re many who seem like perfect husbands but cheat on their wives.

  16. It does not matter how long we may be a fan or sometimes even a family member of someone, they may do something that will shock or disappoint us, or they may no.

I do not want to believe this about Jackie as he seems so level headed o grounded s a husband, father and person. He is also a human like any other man, an the showbiz people do tend to do things to their hearts desires..

I like Jackie, no doubt about that, but my head I not buried up his butt or anyone else’s, even my own.

For the sake of his diehard supporters along with the sake of his immediate family and , personal friends and other relatives, I hop tis news is not true.

    1. Very well said Trini and I totally agree with you. Even our own family members who we have known all of our lives can do things that we would never think they would do. I have known all of my own siblings my whole life, grew up with them, etc… But I must say, there are still so many things about them that I do not know. I have a good feeling this is not true though, however, IF it were then we should not all be too shocked.

Also, life for celebs in the circle is a lot more difficult and complicated then the average Joe and Jane.

    2. Agree with you Trini. I do not want to believe Jackie is capable of such deceit too. There are not many couples in the entertainment industry who have been together for so long, so I’d wish those who are still together will remain together. Sometimes the way the media report is so unethical that even a strong marriage cannot withstand such constant provocation.

  17. right now I don’t care about these rumors – even if it were true, it wouldn’t matter because he is just a private vendor of songs – which I never listen to

it’s not like he is some political hypocrite whose career and paycheck are based on being a family man

I do think his Happy Ghost wife is very pretty though.

  18. I maintain this philosophy = unless a fly in someone’s household daily, what goes on ANYONE’S household (celeb, or ordinary folk) we will never really ever know.

The recent ‘tigress’ Sandra Ng and Peter Chan tale was sad = I’d never have thought Sandra NG who epitomises strong modern woman would ever put up such behavior from her partner and I always thought this couple bonded with intellectual rapport.

Joining the crowd in hoping it is NOT true, for Jackie Cheung. He is one of the rare gems out there, along with Sean Lau and Sunny Chan for sincere family men.

I respect Jacky Cheung = for his low profile, for his unassuming humbleness; for making time for his family and putting them on top priority despite the fact he’s a major bread earner aka ‘Heavenly King’.

His REFRESHING lack of ego and self-centeredness, despite his importance.

What stuck in my memory was one incident right after his concert, where his wife apparently called with some daughter troubles/argument … and this ‘important’ man immediately got on the phone to seek help from another showbiz friend who had way more parenting experience and wisdom.

Many men with even less status and power than him would just say: “Deal with it. I just finished a million dollar concert, why are you bothering me with trivial domestic issues? That’s YOUR problem.”

Even his charity drives with his fans (donations of bags of rice) are low profile, and not spotlight media events.

Many things he says about his family is pretty revealing = I doubt it’s put on (or some public spiel to LOOK like the nice guy).

These ‘little-detail’ comments require observation and thinking, listening and time actually spent with the family.
