Director Dante Lam Hopes Eddie Peng Becomes an A-list Actor

Eddie Peng’s (彭于晏) breakthrough performance in the 2013 Hong Kong film Unbeatable <激戰> brought him to new heights in the film industry. The boxing film, directed by Dante Lam (林超賢), was a financial success in the Hong Kong box office, becoming the highest-grossing locally produced film in 2013. Through the film, Nick Cheung (張家輝) won Best Actor award for his performance.

Recently, it has been reported that Eddie Cheng was cast as the male lead in Dante Lam’s upcoming film Breaking Wind <破風>. Eddie recently went to Hong Kong to promote the film, and when the event was finished, Dante Lam hosted a dinner banquet to celebrate Eddie’s belated 32nd birthday. Sources say that the purpose of the dinner was so Eddie could sign a film contract with Dante Lam. It was reported that Dante Lam signed Eddie for $5 million HKD, and his new film will begin shooting next year.

Dante Lam admitted in a later interview that he was very interested in working with Eddie again. He said, “The subject matter [of the new film] has not been decided yet. Everything is still in its very early brainstorming stages. [Eddie] is a very hard-working actor, and I look forward to him rising to an A-list actor.”

In other news, Ethan Juan (阮經天), Eddie’s costar in Breaking Wind, has been hard at work for the film. After finishing up a late-night shoot in Taiwan, Ethan rushed to Hong Kong to promote Breaking Wind. A few hours later, he flew back to Taiwan for a studio shoot, working for 48 hours straight.
