Due to its fast-paced and suspenseful storyline, supernatural-horror drama Barrack O’Karma <金宵大廈> has been a big hit since airing, boosting Selena Lee (李施嬅) and Joel Chan’s (陳山聰) popularity. Because of the excellent feedback, TVB has allegedly green-lit an upcoming sequel.
Selena May Not Return for Sequel
Although there’s word on a sequel, Selena may not return to reprise her role. As her TVB contract has already ended, she is currently managed by an American talent agency. Selena has been expanding the international scope of her work such as attending October fashion week in Japan and filming a Canadian television series.
She expressed, “There are no solid plans on the sequel yet, but I’m happy that they’re thinking about it. It means that the series is pretty important for [TVB]. However, I haven’t agreed on it yet. I already signed with another company and have other work to do – I will have to shuffle around my schedule next year because I have several confirmed jobs. We’ll talk about it when it’s time to actually film the sequel – we’ll need to discuss the work plan.
“I do admire everyone who worked on Barack O’Karma –the actors, the writers, producers, and director put in their best work. I would be interested if we keep the original cast and crew,” the 38-year-old actress said.
Asked if she would command a higher salary now that she is in high demand, Selena disclosed that money is not the major motivating factor. She pointed out that she had re-filmed scenes for Forensic Heroes IV <法證先鋒IV> without extra pay.
Producer Yip Chun Fai (葉鎮輝) indirectly confirmed that a sequel for Barrack O’Karma is indeed under consideration. While understanding that Selena may not be available for the sequel, he anticipates that most actors will return. To keep the storyline fresh and entertaining for viewers, Yip Chun Fai said the plot and characters will likely change and the sequel will not be related to its first season.
