Bernice Liu Distances Herself from Stephen Chan

Corruption charges have been formally pressed against TVB General Manager, Stephen Chan Chi Wan. Mr. Chan appeared in court on September 21st to have his case heard.

Five of TVB’s actresses will testify in court in Mr. Chan’s trial. On February 7, 2010, Charmaine Sheh Si Man, Tavia Yeung Yi, Shirley Yeung Si Kei, Sharon Chan Man Chi, and Skye Chan Sin Yeung attended a book launch. Mr. Chan’s protege, Edthancy Cong Pei Kun, pocketed $300,000 (HKD) from sponsor, Ma Belle, for the event in January. Yet the artists were not paid for their appearance at the event.

Since the actresses have been summoned to testify before court, they have not been allowed to discuss Mr. Chan’s case further. Heavily favored by Mr. Chan in the past, Bernice Liu Bik Yee may be drawing a clear between Mr. Chan and herself. Asked whether she had called Mr. Chan recently, Bernice said, “No, I didn’t.”

Jayne: Perhaps Stephen Chan was aware of Edthancy’s abuse of his connection to make personal profits. Mr. Chan may have turned a blind eye too frequently. An earlier tabloid alleged that artists started complaining to TVB management that they were not getting paid for their appearances.

  1. I wonder how this case is going to turn out.. i guess the actresses involved are gonna be stuck between a rock and a hard place now

  2. Jayne did a mandarin pinyin for Edthancy’s chinese name. If following mandarin, Jayne’s translation is correct.

If want to follow his official english spelling, Edthancy Tseng Tei Kun is still not correct. It should be Edthancy Tseng Pei Kun.

  3. Her response was that she didn’t call him recently. I’m not sure what else she said that was not reported in this article or how her tone was when she responded, but I don’t think she was necessarily distancing herself from him. It’s understandable to not call people during this sensitve time. I don’t think they would want to bother him during this tough time. But who knows, there might be more to it and I think the artists are very careful in handling the situation. If Stephen Chan does return, it’s going to be very tough for the artists that testified against him
