Wong Hei Blasts Virginia Lok On His Last Day At TVB

As they say, Rome wasn’t built in a day thus grudges weren’t accumulated overnight too. Yesterday  was the first day that Stephen Chan (陳志雲) had officially returned to TVB after his acquittal while contradictory, it was instead Wong Hei’s (王喜) last day at TVB.

During his years as an employee in TVB, Wong Hei had accumulated tons of vendetta with Virginia Lok (樂易玲). Yesterday, Wong Hei even took one last parting glance and “split into two different routes”, blasting Virginia of being pretentious during the outdoor filming and over popular Chinese micro-blogging social site, Weibo.

Wong Hei has always determinedly stood by TVB Broadcasting Affairs General Manager, Stephen Chan, and never given up on him. Wong Hei had also been accused of locking horns with TVB Production and Resource Director, Virginia Lok, and thus, as a result, he sowed in the sorry plight of not receiving a contract renewal from TVB.

Even before Stephen’s lawsuit has ended, the issue of the contract renewal between Wong Hei and TVB had already been blown up out of all proportion. It was even heavily rumored that TVB had requested Wong Hei to end his contract prematurely and even stopped the program he was hosting.

However, the TVB Artistry Department soon made a clarification and Wong Hei had completed all the episodes of the program he was hosting. Earlier on, when Virginia Lok accepted an interview, she expressed that they would invite Wong Hei to act if there are any suitable drama series for him. Virginia also said that they have adopted the same working relationship with Adam Cheng (鄭少秋) and Idy Chan (陳玉蓮).

Yesterday was, in fact, Wong Hei’s last day of work at TVB and he spent it filming outdoors at So Uk Estate with former Miss HK Sammi Cheung (張秀文) for TVB program, Hong Kong Back Then《香港演義》.

Please don’t force her to lie again

Wong Hei who was not going to be contractually bound by TVB anymore, went to a cafeteria for some breakfast and chatted with the filming crew and the neighborhood before getting into position for filming. Asked about how he felt on his last day working for TVB, “Feeling easy lor.” (Reporter: Feeling completely relaxed?) “Yes, something like that.” (Did TVB find you for any new jobs?) “No, none at the moment.”

Asked about rumors that Virginia Lok immediately changed her tune after Stephen Chan was acquitted and said that they would find him back to act if they have any suitable job for him, Wong He laughed out loud upon hearing this and said words dripping with sarcasm, “Good ah! I shall await her phone call. And also, it’s not good for everyone to call her Ms Lok, we should address her by her marital surname, Mrs Chan. Furthermore, she has already given birth to two kids lahs, shouldn’t call until it sounds like she hasn’t gotten married yet.”

About Stephen Chan’s acquittal from all charges, would Wong Hei eat dinner with him to celebrate? Wong Hei responded, “Wait for him to call me lor, won’t specially go and celebrate.” Wong Hei revealed that after he finishes the TVB work, he will go to Beijing to film dramas. In the midst of filming, there will be a break for him to return back to Hong Kong. Asked whether Stephen’s acquittal made him feel more relieved at work now, Wong Hei replied, “Not good to say like I’m going to rest in peace (安心上路), life is like that lahs, there will be ups and downs everyday in life.”

On another platform, Wong Hei used Weibo to continue to blast Virginia Lok, urging everyone not to force Virginia to lie again. Wong Hei wrote as follows, “Everyone also knows that I’m Mr Chan’s (Stephen) friend. In the future, if I have any good developments in TVB, Stephen Chan will be scolded as practicing favoritism and using company’s assets for private uses. However, if I’m not developing well in TVB, Stephen Chan will also be rebuked as being an ingrate.”

Earlier when Wong Hei expressed that he wanted to draw a line with Stephen, he was in fact referring to his tweet above, in a bid to avoid letting the media associate his speech and acts as a representation of Stephen.

Wong Hei also directly revealed that the remarks of “We will find him if there is any suitable job” made by seasoned expert Virginia Lok was quite precise. Wong Hei continued, “I only have less than a month before my contract expires, still wait until then mehs?”

Wong Hei had also previously extracted lyrics of “Hatred which is like the sea and raging in every possible way”, from the theme song of  The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber《倚天屠龍記》 and “Vowing to bring evil-doers to justice”, from the theme song of One Sword《一劍鎮神州》onto his Weibo account, thus incurring sensitivity to speculate. Wong Hei later explained on Weibo that these were drunken acts and even deleted those photos involved. Wong Hei also explained that this was his thing and had nothing to do with others.

It was not purely decided by me

With regards to Wong Hei’s snide comments, Virginia Lok accepted a telephone interview yesterday but expressed that she does not want to respond, in a bid to avoid letting it resemble a scolding match.

However, in light of the situation, Virginia clarified and said, “Firstly, the media did not force me and Secondly, I will not say a lie because of these matters. TVB has it’s own system. Every artiste’s contract or renewal of contract is not purely decided by me. The contract circumstances of every artiste, right down from the increase of pay to the number of events he or she attends, is discussed and decided upon meetings with the production department and director levels. It is not decided based on one person and is not completely decided by Mr Chan too.”

Virginia Lok also referred to Wong Hei as thinking too much. Virginia continued, “The Artistry Department will inform us about the situation of the artiste. If an artiste doesn’t have much jobs to do, we will recommend them to use them more often. If an artiste is overwhelmed  with jobs, we will fight for him or her to be given adequate time to rest. I do not have to lie in terms of this aspect, I feel that Wong Hei has thought too much.”

Virginia professed that they had ever took Wong Hei’s case to discuss, “At the end, the conclusion was that we will find him again if there are suitable jobs for him.”

As for being addressed “Mrs Chan” by Wong Hei, Virginia replied, “It doesn’t matter. It is just a form of address. Many people also call me that.”

Amigo Chui doesn’t wish to stand in front of the camera yet.

Amigo Chui (崔建邦) who was once Stephen Chan’s “beloved general”, is currently holding the post of a filming assistant in TVB. Asked whether he had offered his congratulations to Stephen, Amigo replied, “I was of course happy to learn that he will be returning to TVB but I didn’t disturb him as I am currently busy being a filming assistant to Lee Tim-Shing’s (李添勝) new drama.”

Asked about rumors that Stephen Chan was helping him to pave the way to stage a comeback in front of the cameras, Amigo responded, “I have not thought about reprising work in front of the camera yet. Will I switch to the other now? There is no need to respond to rumors. Although I have seen Ho Lai-Chuen (何丽全) [former TVB high-ranking executive turned rival station now TV’s Senior Vice President], I didn’t mention much about work-related matters.”

  1. Wong Hei is indeed blunt, writing on his Weibo, “Bringing evil doers to justice.”

Wong Hei possesses a creative literary talent; he should explore writing as a career and pen some novels filled with ponderings about life. Or perhaps be a newspaper columnist.

    1. Agree that Wong hei do possess the creative literary talent, he also can answer those reporters in a hilarious yet informativte manner.

It’s very obvious that 620 hold some grudges against Wong hei, everyone can sense them although 620 didn’t openly admitted it.

      1. It’s hard for them to be neutral toward each other, don’t say of like.

WH is creative in literature, but his continuous blasts with bone words give me the thinking that this guy is kinda petty.

      2. Pardon me, but I would like to ask who is this 620 you are referring to? Is this a play on Virginia Lok’s name? Just curious…

  2. This reminds me of Sammul Chan and Joe Ma’s wife …….. I weckon they should go to rival station NOWTV ..

      1. Sammul chose ATV, didn’t he? Seen that he went to meet ATV’s boss.

      2. He was exploring options. He went to meet the boss, but, I haven’t seen him participating in any ATV program so far. All his work so far are in mainland now.

Who said meeting the boss mean sure sign contract? So, after meeting ATV boss, cannot explore other options? You only go for interview in one company when you are looking for job?

Secondly, TVB’s rival stations are not as strict as TVB. ATV and I-Cable share artists. Kenneth Chan can still act for ATV after moving to I-Cable and he said when he was still with ATV, I-Cable has ‘borrowed’ him from ATV. Maybe NOWTV also practices such policy that give artists more freedom.

      3. Calm down Kidd, wondering only because ATV also let artists to film mainland series :).

Yes, TXB’s rivals are less strict than them. But TXB is kinda open now :P. There artists go to China more and receive works outside TXB.

    1. What happened between Sammul and Joe’s wife?? I suddenly don’t remember… Can someone remind me what it was??

By the way, it is great seeing Sammul in China productions.

      1. Nothing happen between Sammul and Joe’s wife. They are unrelated. But, they did the same thing around the same time i.e. blast TVB. 😀

  3. “it’s not good for everyone to call her Ms Lok, we should address her by her marital surname, Mrs Chan”..

i notice wong hei mentioned this a few times. does anyone knows the sarcasm behind this?

    1. I guess because everyone call her Lok Siu Jie and she also tells ppl to call her so. However, Siu Jie is used for unmarried woman. I think WH wanna joke that 620 isn’t young anymore to act like an unmarried woman.

  4. Glad that Amigo understands his situation now. Few years later, he can come back. I still like him as a MC.

    1. No way, Amigo is one of the worst MCs at TVB.

I still can not figure it why choose Amigo instead of 阿Lo (Jerry Lamb) and look it right now, wise decision? lol.

      1. I find Amigo a good MC and able to handle unexpected situation well. I also heard a radio host commented once that Amigo’s questions are more well researched and better than his replacement.

I think Amigo and Jerry are just different kind of host. Jerry is the more funny type while Amigo is more serious.

      2. No, he handle very poorly. His interviews werent that good at all, even hosting.

  5. I think Amigo is a very good host. Hope he’ll be given another chance soon.

As for Wong Hei, used to like him. BUT I think he’s too out spoken. Sometimes there’s certain things which should not be spoken out loud. And he did it in front of the camera with sarcasm some more! It’s ugly!

    1. TVB will give him another chance, they like to hire bad people nowadays.

  6. One can say that Wong Hei has character but when he continues to blast a woman, he becomes petty. I mean a true man don’t fight with a woman.

  7. “Virginia also said that they have adopted the same working relationship with Adam Cheng (鄭少秋) and Idy Chan (陳玉蓮).”

Well, that’s because they’re like semi retired. As far as I know, Wong Hei isn’t anything near retired. What a silly excuse.

Here Wong Hei, here is the torpedo. USE IT but aim well!!

Frankly if suddenly your boss one day say “Eh we are not gonna renew your contract” and you ask “But why? The audience still likes me? I can still act?” and they say “nothing, just… go”

How will you feel? Petty? I think not. He has every justification to believe 620 is behind all these, like personal vendetta. Why no one said 620 is petty? Because she isn’t vocal?

I still want to see Wong Hei act. I understand his anger.

    1. “If an artiste is overwhelmed with jobs, we will fight for him or her to be given adequate time to rest.”

Why no one asks Linda for her opinion with her holidays being shelved? Or Tavia who worked until she got swollen face or whatever she had. Or Charmaine who coughed and all and still only I believe 1 day or 2 days sick leave and back to work?

      1. “Wong Hei also directly revealed that the remarks of “We will find him if there is any suitable job” made by seasoned expert Virginia Lok was quite precise. Wong Hei continued, “I only have less than a month before my contract expires, still wait until then mehs?””

What does this mean? I don’t get it.

      2. its just talk lol

tvb are going to milk every artists dry before they are no longer of use and throw them in the recycling trash bin ala wong hei LOL

      3. And I understand the context of calling 620 Mrs Chan. It is to show how cold their relationship is, not to disrespect her by demeaning her but rather like “THAT person said …” sorta addressing the person.

      4. @Funn Lim:

““Wong Hei also directly revealed that the remarks of “We will find him if there is any suitable job” made by seasoned expert Virginia Lok was quite precise. Wong Hei continued, “I only have less than a month before my contract expires, still wait until then mehs?””
What does this mean? I don’t get it.”

I also don’t get what Wong Hei is trying to bring across to us here when he said this. Or maybe my translation skills just cannot make it lol!

These are the exact words, “王喜說:「我離約滿都唔夠一個月,仲等到咩?」” I think he meant to say that his contract is expiring in less than a month, if they don’t give him new jobs or renew his contract now then when are they going to do it, he can’t possibly wait for them forever. That is what I think he was trying to say lahs! Not that sure too!

      5. Ah K,
“These are the exact words, “王喜說:「我離約滿都唔夠一個月,仲等到咩?」” I think he meant to say that his contract is expiring in less than a month, if they don’t give him new jobs or renew his contract now then when are they going to do it, he can’t possibly wait for them forever. Your interpretation is correct lah. 🙂 In translating the the colloqial Cantonese replies, it really helps to read it out loud sometimes. Hehe….

      6. Right on, Funn. My same sentiments when I read this. TVB actors have hardly any rest and they took every opportunity to take a nap during filming. Look at Raymond. Did Virginia fight for him to be given adequate time to rest?

  8. For anyone who understand Cantonese, you can listen to this radio talk show. This episode talk discuss about Stephen’s case. Most interesting in the listeners’ call in to give opinion. Around 30:34 min part 2, there’s a caller who used to work in TVB. He was before Stephen’s time. He disclose some internal workings of TVB. Quite interesting.

  9. I hope that Wong Hei will go to CHina and act in China productions. HE is an established actor so I don’t think he needs worry about finding jobs and stuff… Good luck to him!

I can understand how he feels… It is really very uncomfortable to go to school or to any workplace with a person that you don’t like and they don’t like you. At least he is leaving soon, but sadly lots of people don’t have that option of leaving…
