Cecilia Cheung Talks About Being a Single Mom

Having experienced many highs and lows in her life, Cecilia Cheung (張栢芝) is not one to be fixated on the rough patches. The 38-year-old recently appeared on the Mainland show, Middle Me <女人30+>, to share her thoughts on being a single mother of three. She has two sons, Lucas Tse, 11, and Quintus Tse, 9, conceived with her ex-husband Nicholas Tse (謝霆锋), while the father of her newborn son, Marcus Cheung, was never disclosed.

She Puts Her Family First

Although Cecilia gave up her acting career to focus on her family, she does not think it’s a pity. “If you want something, you have to let go of something,” the star explained. “I wouldn’t have such three cute children if I focused on making money and reaching the height of my career.”

Cecilia continued, “Watching them grow up is more important than work. In ten years time, I won’t need to take care of anything – my sons will take care of me instead, and I’d be really happy.”

On the topic of her sons growing up and moving out, Cecilia said she would be disappointed. She joked, “That’s why I will continue to have more children, and once they grow up, I will have more. Of course, that is not possible, but I really like children.”

In fact, she dreamed of being a mother when she was at the tender age of eight. “Even then, I thought children are the best, the simplest, and makes me the happiest. When I see them, I feel that the world is beautiful,” Cecilia expressed.

She Wants a Soul Mate

To make up for the absence of their fathers, Cecilia makes sure to spend a lot of time with her kids. Not only does she buy groceries to cook them dinner every day, but she also insists on accompanying her sons to and from school daily.

She explains, “I think children feel more secure when they’re directly surrounded by their mother’s love.”

The actress recalled watching her own parents quarrel every day until they finally divorced when she was nine. Although leading a single life, Cecilia said she could still be very happy. “I can love if I want to and I don’t need to hold back. Even if there is heartache, it is still an experience.”

She frankly admitted to wanting to find a soul mate who can grow old with her.
