Celebrity Weddings: Tavia Yeung and Him Law

37-year-old Tavia Yeung (楊怡) and 32-year-old Him Law (羅仲謙) gave us all major relationship goals when they officially tied the knot at the The Ritz-Carlton Hotel on Sunday. The adorable couple, who dated for six years, officially signed their wedding papers and exchanged their vows in front of close family and friends on October 2, 2016.

Him: “She is the Woman I Will Forever Protect and Love”

The occasion was marked with both traditional Chinese customs and English royal styles. On Sunday morning, Him and his groomsmen arrived at The Ritz-Carlton Hotel at around eight o’clock to pick up the bride. In a brief interview with the press, Him described his feelings as surreal, as he felt both happy and nervous at the same time. He joked that he would use his money and his handsome groomsmen to bribe the bridesmaids.

tavia him wedding 3As nine is a lucky number in Chinese culture, Tavia and Him each had nine bridesmaids and groomsmen. Tavia’s bridesmaids included her older sister Griselda Yeung (楊卓娜), Natalie Tong (唐詩詠), Akina Hong (康華), Claire Yiu (姚嘉妮), Meini Cheung (張美妮), and Sire Ma (馬賽). Him’s groomsmen included Kenneth Ma (馬國明), Ron Ng (吳卓羲), Vincent Wong (王浩信), Pal Sinn (單立文), and Quinn Ho (何君誠).

Him, now with Tavia in his hands, returned to the entrance of The Ritz-Carlton two hours later. Tavia appeared in a beautiful golden wedding kua, brightened by a large necklace with three golden pigs, a gift from Steven Ma (馬浚偉). She wore ten golden dragon and phoenix bracelets, five on each arm. After posing for press pictures—in which Tavia and Him gladly kissed for ten seconds under the request of reporters—the newlyweds stepped into their wedding vehicle to head over to Him’s home in Tai Po, where they were to hold a second tea ceremony with Him’s family.

The couple returned to the hotel that afternoon to exchange vows and sign wedding papers. Tavia was in tears. Although they had a “secret wedding” in England a few months ago, their Hong Kong wedding felt much more emotional and intimate. “It feels so different to make life vows in the presence of family and friends,” said Him.

tavia him wedding 9Him was full of sincerity and emotion when reporters asked the couple if they could share some of their wedding vows. Him said, “I am really thankful to Tavia. This is the sixth year since our first date. When we first got together, Tavia was the only one who had unconditionally supported me and trusted me. And in these six years, we’ve experienced so many ups and downs. Now, we’re finally married. This woman is the one. She is the woman I will forever protect and love.”

Tavia then said, “The happiness I want is very simple. I don’t need wealth. I don’t need cars. All I want is for us to hold hands, and walk on till old age.”

Tavia: “He Gets 80 Points”

Both Tavia and Him said they could see children in their future, and admitted that they have stopped taking contraceptives. Hinting that he wants to have more than one child, Him said, “I’d want to have a daughter first. I have an older sister myself, so I know how lucky it is to have one.”

tavia him wedding 8The couple are anxious about starting their new journey together. Him said he understands that there will be ups and downs in the future, but Tavia will always be the first priority in his life. Tavia then joked that she’s giving Him “80 points” in the husband scale. Asking why she didn’t give Him the full 100 points, Tavia said, “We are both young, so we need to leave in some room for improvement.”

When the reporters mentioned that Tavia’s sister, Griselda, gave her a handmade castle as a gift, Tavia immediately broke into tears. Feeling speechless, Tavia said, “I didn’t know about it. I only found out through the news reports. When she first brought it in, I had no idea what I was supposed to be looking at. It is beautiful. My sister always had a love for arts and crafts. My mother as well. I don’t know what to say. I am deeply moved.”

Star-Studded Wedding Reception

tavia him wedding 12Tavia and Him held a 52-table wedding reception at The Ritz-Carlton. Aside from close family and friends, the couple also invited many of their current and former colleagues in the industry. Gigi Leung (梁詠琪), Ada Choi (蔡少芬), Raymond Lam (林峯), Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼), Felix Wong (黃日華), Frankie Lam (林文龍), Kenix Kwok (郭可盈), Michelle Ye (葉璇), Myolie Wu (胡杏兒), Kay Tse (謝安琪), Damian Lau (劉松仁), John Chiang (姜大偉), Wayne Lai (黎耀祥), Joe Ma (馬德鐘), Michael Tse (謝天華), Louise Lee (李司棋), Shirley Yeung (楊思琦), Benny Chan (陳浩民), Chin Siu-ho (錢小豪), and Yuen Qiu (元秋), were only some of the hundred stars who attended Tavia and Him’s big night. It was even more star-studded than TVB’s own extravagant anniversary galas!

When Tavia took the stage, Him surprised her in an adorable Rilakkuma suit. He then tried to perform George Lam’s (林子祥) song “Need You Every Minute” <分分鐘需要你>, but broke down into tears.

Him said afterwards, “When I first started pursuing her, I surprised her in a character suit. I want to surprise her again, so we can make this wedding a memory we’ll never forget.”

My heartiest congratulations to this lovely couple. They look so well suited for each other.

I like the manner in which they managed their relationship. Slowly but surely they let in on the media and all of us fans on they being an item and their journey together, finally building up to this wonderful climax of a traditional marriage. Everything is out in the open. Unlike Linda Chung, who hushed hushed rushed rushed into a secret wedding with someone no one ever heard of. If she is not hiding something, what else can it be?

@creditor i agree with you. Linda’s wedding, if you want to use nice words is frugal and simple but in actual fact, it is very “kow kow kei kei” (anyhow) like they can’t be bothered with a grand celebration of a joyous event or perhaps they were just too rushed for time (since she was already several months along) to plan a proper wedding. It looked more like it was done as an afterthought. Grand does not equate extravagant (as in Angelababy-extravagant or those multi-million dollar weddings) but must match the bride’s status as a celebrity. After all a wedding is a once in a lifetime event and if the couple can afford it, why be so simple that it looks so 寒酸。

Small and intimate is very nice. I like celebrity that are low profile. I dont see anything wrong with Linda’s wedding. People like different things so lets not criticise others 4 their choice in life.

Plus this news has nothing to do with Linda.

        Congrats 2 the newly weds.

@1nit why can’t i make comparisons? Cos this is what comes to my mind when i see tavia’s wedding. Both are tvb fadans but their weddings are like heaven and earth apart. Besides I’m speaking the truth. Linda’s wedding i suppose you can say is intimate frugal and all things nice but in reality it is quite shabby given her celeb status. Even common people like us have grander weddings than her (by which i dont mean so extravagant as to spend beyond one’s means). It’s like she and her hubby couldn’t be bothered. To me, how much effort you put in to prepare for your wedding reflects how impt you view it.

I think everyone have different opinion when it comes to wedding planning. Some might like extravagant, some might like a grand one, some might like a simple one and some might not even want a wedding at all.
So it is nothing wrong with Linda’s wedding if it was too simple. It is her wedding, simple or not, it is her choice.
I don’t understand how some people criticized her for having a simple wedding.
Why did she have to have a big wedding just because she was a famous celebrity?

      • isay replied:

@vyvy you said it right! everyone has a different opinion and that’s my opinion of her wedding, like it or not. You can’t control what other people think, i happen to just voice out my thoughts too. Can you tell me which other Asian celebrity in recent years didn’t have a big do for their wedding? Even less famous ones like Jason and Sarah, as another poster pointed out had a much nicer and intimate one. Also, even Tavia who is known to be another low key frugal celeb had an intimate but grand wedding which obviously happened after many months of planning. The effort a couple puts in in planning for the most important occasion of their lives says a lot about how much they value the union. So as I said, if you want to use nice adjectives, Linda’s wedding was simple intimate and frugal.

@isay if you look at linda chung’s wedding, it is like a left over of an event held in a function room…there is no feel of a wedding at all. tavia/him’s wedding is very touching and i was moved just looking at the pics.
it has nothing to do with the venue.

        @isay

A marriage is about commitment between the 2 people. The wedding day is a celebration/party to annouce to family and friends your union.

So having a grand annoucement or a low key annoucement has nothing to do with how you view your love/relationship/marriage. The type of party/celebration you choose is a reflection of how you want to be seen by other people.

Linda have money same with her husband so if they want a grand wedding they could get it done in a short period of time. Like Ruby Lin and other celeb shot gun wedding. But she choose 2 have small because she want it small.

Im pretty sure she had a shot gun wedding n the virgin sweet image is made up but I respect her choice of how she want to celebrate her wedding.

@1nit yes you’re right about the “face” aspect, can’t quarrel with that. So linda doesn’t care about face, good for her. I’ve said you can think what you want and i can do likewise. Since you all want to prolong this argument i shall repeat for the record that i think her wedding is very slip shod hastily put together with not much effort or pride. It almost gives me the impression of ” heck just get this over asap”. Even the rented kwa was ill-fitting. As I’ve said earlier, time will tell. Pl dont make me repeat myself.

@isay I too agree with isay! Linda’s wedding is wayyy too simple, it’s so kaukai. Her kua, wedding gowns, hairdo makeups just so off.
Even the recent JasonChan n her wife-RahRahSong, they aren’t even fadan but look at her kua her gowns n the ceremony, it’s a closed wedding too but all so sweet and nice.
Linda’s one is too rushing, too shocking, too secrective and too kaukei and to me she is just another AthenaChu, I really hope she can just stop pulling that “angelic” face~~~

StevenMa always mentioned he has 3 sisters in TVB, it’s Tavia, Linda n Fala. And look at the wedding gift StevenMa got for Tavia, just shows how diff it is and lol he knew about Linda wedding n PREGNANCIES thru press..

@yeny ah no. If i remember reading it correctly, he was awared of her wedding and was invited to it but he couldn’t go because of filming commitments. Linda also introduced Jeremy to Steve to get his approval after they married in 2015 and he was very happy for her because he said he feel Jeremy love for Linda. As for his gift to Linda… It could be something big too…just that we don’t know about it.

@happybi yes indeed. I read the report too about Steven Ma too. He was interviewed in fact and said that he was designated the job of security against the prap’s. Each to his own, some like low key and intimate, others prefer lavish and extravagance. Their choice. But for sure, it’s an expression of their personality and not of their feelings towards each other. On the flip side if one can judge a couple’s love by how they present their wedding, are we right to assume that people with little budget for weddings are not in love? Of course not!! Come on, we can’t be that closed minded, can we? Seriously!

@isay likewise, one’s efforts put into a wedding also are NOT indicative of their feelings or love for each other! I think we sometimes get too wrapped up with the commercialism, the fanfare and show! For me and I’m sure many other people too, it’s not how big or lavish or how much effort a couple put into a wedding, rather, it’s the effort, love and mutual understanding they put into the marriage and relationship that will ensure a happy and blissful life together. (Of course I personally hope they will all produce lots of healthy and beautiful children, but this is also the choice if each couple as well). God bless you all!

I don’t like Tavia’s hair updo with her white gown, it’s ageing. Plus i don’t know why the designer had to use the nude stocking which made her gown look very tacky from the side view. Prefer her traditional Chinese kwa and the hairdo here, she looked glowing and radiant.

My most sincere congratulations to Him and Tavia! Lovely wedding, and you can tell how much they love each other. Him especially. I remember when there was so much doubt that they wouldn’t make it, and I’m happy to see such a warm and stable couple reach this stage and ready to start a new journey together.

Tavia had three different white dresses, I believe. My favorite one is not in the photos above, the one without the v-neck (which she seems to like). It’s the one where she and Him are cutting the cake. It looked simple, yet beautiful and suited her best.

The picking up the bride clip looks so fun and cute! And it was so touching when he came out in the bear suit.

I also loved how Mandy Wong revealed that during On Call filming, Him would invite the cast out as an excuse to get close to Tavia, haha.

  6. happybi says:

Congratulations to the couple. She look gorgeous in the Kua but not a fan of her wedding dress. I do not like the nude siding. It just doesn’t look good as it clashes with her own skin color. The wedding look very sweet though.

As for people comparing it to Linda wedding. There are def. differences for sure. I was actually surprised that Linda Kua was not that pretty as I figure the ones in Canada will look better as I know the one in my states are not nice as not much opinion. It’s also rental so the size are not a perfect fit. I guess if I want to spend the money and order a custom one, it could be better but for something that I will only wear once like the wedding dress. I don’t think it was necessary to splurge like that. So at the end of the day, I find Linda wedding pretty nice in a small way. Its actually similar to her as she is a pretty low key person. Don’t think it was kow kow kei kei like @isay think it is. Just that I think even if someone have the money, if they don’t want to waste money and instead save it for something else, it’s fine. So both wedding are different and special in their own way.

  7. I cannot control nor do I have to agree with any or all of the comments so far. But one thing for sure, regardless of how each couple chooses to express or celebrate their wedding, it is strictly a choice each couple makes and the moment is very sweet, touching and blessed for the bride and groom and their family and guests.I just want to propose a toast to Travis and Him, Linda and Jeremy, and others in the entertainment circle recently married! Congrats, blessings and good wishes to all of you!

It’s touching when he mentioned Tavia is the only 1 that trusted him and supported him during that trial moments, at that time Him is still courting Tavia.

I thought her wedding dress looks lovely and Tavia looks lovely. Him looks good as well. Looks like a huge party. Some likes huge weddings, some likes smaller wedding, personal preference even if this looks a lot like a wedding cum PR stunt. Everybody showed up?

Anyway I don’t get some comments that insert Linda Chung’s simplistic and so called rushed wedding in. Hers is a small affair, surrounded by personal friends and families. What’s wrong with that? The main thing is let’s see 10 years down the road, are they still together? Some never even had a wedding. Some made their wedding into a sponsorship event. Some preferred to sponsor their own wedding. Some who never discuss their relationship to the media now shows off wedding ring designs and what nots. Different preference, different style.

Leave Linda alone. she married the man who fathered her child and lucky for them both, they’re in love. What is better than that at the end of the day?

Much can be said about this huge event with Tavia and Him, neither ever offering any substantial opinion on anything in the past. But why go down that route? It looks like a huge pretty party and hey, she calls the shot.

I find it sweet as well that Steven turned up for her wedding. We know how close they are. Tavia whilst never offering much opinion when interviewed is I believe in private a very good kindred friend hence her number of friends showing up. I never liked Him, but she changed him to a better person so this is an ideal partnership. Yes I may have joked about the contract, I still do but in a way marriage is a contract and it is ideal if in the end both reaps the benefit.

By the way the bridesmaid and best men all have very nice dress/suits!

@funnlim I agree with you completely. There will be big and small weddings. Who cares? Weddings are not indicative of how successful the marriage will be. I respect that people have different opinions but why do people have to bring others down (in this case Linda) when they’re making these comparisons? Heck, no one cares, but I personally don’t even want a wedding. Save that $ on other stuff like the honeymoon or a house! Sure these celebs have money but we all know Linda’s like the most frugal TVB actress everr. She can do whatever she pleases.

Congrats to Tavia and Him. I’m sure quite a few people doubted their relationship, whether it’s their age gap or his past (relationship w/Theresa Fu and the alleged domestic abuse). Watching the videos, I can see their love. To be honest, I teared up too. I wish them the best 🙂 Chinese media is so..blunt asking if they’ve stopped using contraceptives smh…might as well ask their bedroom routines.

What’s pretty obvious is both Tavia n Him love each other and been supporting each other for YEARRRSSS, it’s not an “act/deal” that you’ve assumed to be pretty obvious for YEARSSS.

It is funny you can see the “true love deep care” Jeremy had for Linda when they married n got a child in less than a year relationship yet still think negatively for Tavia n Him when they’ve been sticking together with each other almost 5years++

@yeny ??? ??????? Am I missing something or are you? Funlim just made an observation. But I think it’s always the woman’s name first, at least at the weddings I have attended here in Canada. Is there a proper protocol? (Not that I follow them closely, lol) Wonder what Miss Manners would say?

I think it’s the males respect to the lady to list her name first in the wedding. Although this is quite a coincidence that Tavia has more earning power, this can easily change in the near future as the man’s career is normally longer. If Him’s career doesent take off then Tavia can slow down her career and let Him be the bigger earner.

@jimmyszeto I believe male these days are becoming more comfortable in accepting their mates as potential major “bread winners” in their households. Although still a slow process, but more and more couples are deciding to have the father staying home to look after the children while the mom works outside the home. A pleasing trend indeed. Mutual respect is an important driver in a sound marriage. Best wishes to the newly weds again!

@jimmyszeto @Hannah @funnlim In the previous article, it says they’ve started dating since 2012. Why did Him law says he and Tavia had dated for 6 years. The two of them must have kept their relationship underground previously.
