Controversial Horse Scene in “Lady of the Dynasty” was Cut After All

Chinese historical epic film Lady of the Dynasty <王朝的女人·楊貴妃> headlined controversial reports when a clip featuring Fan Bingbing (范冰冰) and Leon Lai (黎明) doing intimate things while riding a horse was shared online. There were rumors saying that Chinese cinema chains refused to show the film unless the scene was cut, but these reports were later denied by Fan Bingbing’s agency.

The film about Tang Dynasty beauty Yang Guifei, which also stars Wu Chun (吳尊) and Joan Chen (陳冲), finally premiered in Mainland China on July 30. However, the film left many viewers disappointed, especially netizens who said they were looking forward to Bingbing and Leon’s controversial “sex scene.”

According to moviegoers, Bingbing and Leon’s scene was ultimately cut from the final product, despite earlier statements claiming that it would not be deleted. The production company admitted that it has decided to cut some parts of the sequence, but the scene where Leon shred Bingbing’s clothes, while straddled on a horse, was left untouched in the film.

Lady of the Dynasty is a Chinese epic film about the Tang Dynasty consort Yang Guifei (Fan Bingbing) and her tragic love story with Li Longji, also Emperor Xuanzong (Leon Lai).
