Ending Spoilers for “Ghetto Justice” Revealed!

Recently voted as “The Best Television Series in the 1st Half of 2011,” Ghetto Justice <怒火街頭> aired its finale this week. Prior to the airing of the finale, spoilers revealed that Kevin Cheng’s (鄭嘉穎)“Law Ba” character will have an ultimate ending. Despite being a lawyer, Kevin broke the law, lost his legal license, and entered prison!

In the ending of Ghetto Justice, Sharon Chan’s (陳敏之) prostitute character was bashed to death by Shek Sau (石修) after discovering that he bribed a witness. Eager to bring to justice Shek Sau’s crime, Kevin willingly took a risk by tapering with the evidence of the case. Knowingly violating the law, Kevin’s legal license was disqualified.  Ghetto Justice’s ending did not simply feature the suspension of Kevin’s legal license. Instead, “Law Ba” appeared in a prison uniform in the ending episode!

Difficult to Write a Sequel

Since TVB did not predict the run-away success of Ghetto Justice, the ending featured central character, “Law Ba” in prison. With the ultimate ending, the new producer of Ghetto Justice’s sequel, which will film in October, found it difficult to write a sequel. A production crew member revealed, “We want to feature the opening of the sequel with ‘Law Ba’ resuming his lawyer role and assisting clients in their cases. However, how can we justify the removal of ‘Law Ba’s’ legal license, entering prison, and resuming his old job as a lawyer? This critical point is giving the producer and scriptwriter a big headache. Currently, we are consulting a lawyer’s advice to see how to [see if perhaps there are legal loopholes].”

Jayne: No doubt the ratings for the ending of Ghetto Justice should be quite impressive! “Law Ba” is an interesting character because you don’t know what he will do next. His passion for his career and questionable means remind you of Takashi Sorimachi’s character in GTO. Interested in seeing the ending!

  1. Wow the ending seems so sad =(
What happens to the others in the end?

    1. Myolie takes over Kevin’s spot at the sum shui Bo lawyer firm place. Sam character opens the French restaurant and his dad forgives him and likes and supports his decisions. P.K. Goes to jail andnplays a game with Kevin at the end.

  2. ***spoilers

The ending was uncalled for, really. Myolie, in an attempt to gain Shak Sau’s trust and for him to reveal the real murder weapon, taped Kelvin “tampering” with the evidence and brought it to court so he would be dismissed. However, she purposely taped it in a way that there were cuts so that it would not be enough to officially charge Kelvin, just for his reputation to be questioned. Myolie also taped one of her planting “evidence” and was going to send this tape to the police after Shek Sau was proven guilty so she could clear Kelvin’s name. However, Kelvin had predicted her actions and managed to steal her memory card. He then revealed that he had also taped himself “planting evidence” and had sent the tape to the police after myolie realised her memory card had been stolen.

So uncalled for! Since myolie didn’t have the memory card anymore, there was no proof that she tampered with evidence! Law Ba did not have to go to jail as the original film that myolie presented to court was unfit as evidence. So, Law Ba could have kept his license (and NOT go to jail) and myolie would still be unable to do anything stupid. Drama for nothing!

    1. I never realized that, that Is so True, but it’s a drama that’s what they do make it dramatic

    2. I think Law Ba sacrificed himself by recording himself planting the evidence and turning it in, because without that, he knew that Myolie would admit to the crime. So instead of it being Law Ba’s word vs Myolie’s word, Law Ba had “real” proof that he did it because he didn’t want to risk the chance of Myolie being found guilty instead.

      1. @AC, Law Ba still could have just destroyed Kris’s evidence and his own as well.

But since TVB series always holds up the idea of equality before the law, both Kris and Law Ba recorded themselves tampering with the evidence and felt the need to report themselves and follow their conscience. Wonder if anyone would do that in real life.

    3. The ending is to show Law Ba is willing to sacrificed himself for Myolie. That’s the purpose and Law Ba is always unpredictable and that’s what makes Law Ba interesting.

      1. @Vivien,

Lol… I don’t think Law Ba sent himself into prison just to prove that he is an unpredictable and interesting person. Maybe he did feel bad for what he did 7 years ago, but he has changed a lot since then. He has been helping many poor families in Sam Shui Po and that should make him redeemable. And it’s not like Law Ba tampered with the evidence in a way which resulted in sending an innocent person to prison. It was legally wrong, but morally not.

    4. i think he’s also thinking he is compensating his guilt for all the stuffs happened 7 years ago

      1. Yes, that’s what he said.

But honestly, he did it because he loves Wong Si Fu.

He just said that to make her feel better. You can already tell from the beginning of the drama he let go of that past because he led a very active life in the community, doing good deeds with his legal knowledge.

    5. Yes, she could’ve gotten off the hook with no consequences. But that is against her character and the whole message of the drama.

After the murder of her best friend, Wong Si Fu felt it is very important to take responsibilities of your actions. I understand why you think it’s unnecessary. But try to think of it from the character’s point of view.

    6. To be honest, neither of them needed to go to jail. So, yes, in a way, it felt stupid to me. The last part where Law Ba took the blame for Kris gave me a weird feeling. Maybe it made him too good to be true.

However, it was a touching moment when Kris plugged her USB into her computer and saw Law Ba speaking to her that he has destroyed the evidence.

I’m pretty sure the majority, if not all, the audience wouldn’t pity P.K. and dislike Kris or Law Ba for sending him to prison because he deserves it, so why not just have a happy ending for the couple?

Haha, TVB scriptwriters kinda digged their own grave now that they are scratching their heads finding of a way to continue the story.

It’s probably just easier to start a new story with the same cast, but I’m just afraid that their characters wouldn’t be as interesting anymore. Law Ba and Kris were the driving force of GJ and they are my favorite characters of the series. However, if they do pick up from GJ, please don’t make it lame like they did for Survivor’s Law II.

      1. I thought the producers already decided it’d be an indirect sequel? I’m also afraid the characters won’t be as interesting anymore. Besides for Law Ba and Kris, I also really liked George and Ah Dan.

Ugh, don’t remind me Chriselle! Alone, Survivor’s Law II wasn’t TOO bad. Sammul and Selena were rather boring, but Kenneth and Ella were pretty cute. However, the sequel failed to create the warm feeling and the subtle and sweet humor of the first SL. When comparing it to the first one, SLII was just a mess. All the characters in the first one connected better. I’d like to give a lecture to the scriptwriter for SLII for making Vincent seem like he got amnesia before the finale. If they were going to screw with his character so much, they shouldn’t have brought him back at all. SLII would’ve done better had they waited for all leads to be free to film or written a sequel without Vincent.

      2. “SLII would’ve done better had they waited for all leads to be free to film or written a sequel without Vincent.”

Totally agree. They should have go without Vincent.

      3. I can’t understand why in SLII, they have to make a Jessica (Bernice) like this? Like another person to the Jessica in part 1.

Yes, it would be better if SLII have no link to SLI.

    7. I am not saying that Myolie should not have tried to clear Kevin’s name, that bit was understandable. But he had already destroyed her tape. Does he have to go to jail and lose his license to further “prove” his love? Can’t they reach a compromise to work together or do more work for society? I do think the USB part was very cute and i was totally fine up to that point, even to the point where she confronted him. But after that i wasn’t angry or anything, i just went “huh?” Realistically, how does xx number of years in prison plus losing your license benefit anyone else but your sense of guilt (which i think he was already clear of). Many people could have benefited from his help as a lawyer. And since he normally does pro bono work, it is not like he really needs a great reputation anyway. Plus, will she really be happier that he went to jail or would she have been more content with him being out of jail?

  3. Since Myolie is working at sum shui Bo now they could follow that story line. He comes back out after his two years and works for her, since like the can’t be a lawyers and then they have cases… Blah blah blah.

This series was actually really funny and dramatic how is the oter truth suppost to compare? They should of aired that first than ghetto justice.

    1. It might be nice to see Law Ba working for Kris when he’s released from prison. That was actually what Kris suggested to Law Ba at the ending scene.

However, one of the cutest things between Law Ba and Kris is how she’s clean, professional, and sophisticated while he’s all dirty and doesn’t care about his looks. Now that she works at Sam Shui Po, I still want to see her sophisticated and all, but I guess that won’t be happening.

Also, if the storyline continues, that means Sharon will either have a new character or won’t have a role at all.

      1. Kris can still be clean, professional and sophisticated in Sam Shui Po. Law Ba just goes to the extreme. George works in Sam Shui Po too and he still wears suits and carry himself like a well brought up gentleman.

  4. I really liked the ending- it was interesting to see the main character, who’s also the good guy, end up in jail, but it still ended with a happy feeling. I’m also glad that TVB didn’t do an overly cheesy ending since they tend to do that sometimes. I kept fearing that they would end with the jailmates doing a song and dance routine. D:

  5. Oh now! But I love Sharon so much! I thought this series had great characters and the actors [so far] are doing a great job too.

  6. I thought the series was quite ok in the beginning, however towards the end where LA started acting to be righteous, the series went downhill for me.

Its also stupid that he took the blame for her, I found the ending lame.

  7. Kinda pity the producer. So easy for the executive to just order ‘make a sequel’ and the producer and scriptwriter has to crack their brain to do.

I actually admire the producer for trying to continue from the first story instead of choosing the easy way out and use the same cast for new story.

    1. That will make the series more interesting. I’m surprised at how they really went all out for this sequel to consult a real lawyer.

      1. yes would love to see how their lives work out :)) except v wnt be seeing jen jen anymore 🙁 unless they do a same-actress-diff-character which i totally hate lol

      2. they do this all the time in other dramas. you can tell if the producers are being cheap with their money is when the dialogue is really bad

  8. I think the ratings will be smashing too considering the news report keep mentioning how Kevin is extremely famous and how well loved the series is

  9. Love the unconventional ending.

    BUT

“Eager to bring to justice Shek Sau’s crime, Kevin willingly took a risk by tapering with the evidence of the case. Knowingly violating the law, Kevin’s legal license was disqualified. ”

How is that justice? Because tampering with evidence can only mean every evidence will be brought into question and so Shek Sau’s character will most likely be released until further evidence is found. I think unconventional yes, but not terribly smart ending.

Who says his character can’t be in sequel? instead of a lawyer he can be a CONSULTANT. He can even be more eccentric in his investigative skills, guiding another lawyer whilst maintaining in the background.

    TVB, THINK! THINK HARD!!!

    1. A consultant in which area, Funn? If legal, impossible. A lawyer that being revoked license can’t give legal consultancies to clients, if not he’ll breach law. He only can help lawyers with legal works (being a legal assistant) but can’t give out the legal advices directly to clients and of course, can’t be defenser.

So he has to take back the license again.

Rmb wat happened to Vincent in SL2?

      1. How does he ever can get back his license when he tampered with evidence, went to jail? FYI, a person who was disbarred because of tampering with evidence AND with a conviction can never be a lawyer again. So yes, he can be legal assistant, as in not lawyer but behind the scene. Yes he can be consultant. Consultants don’t advise people, they are employed to strategise to give advise to lawyers. Since he also is smart and can do some detective work, I will say his experience will be invaluable to any defence team.

It is possible and not end of the world. Which is why I say to TVB to THINK!! THINK!! before doing an indirect sequel. Do a direct sequel but make it different.

And I wouldn’t take TVB as the authority on the real legal world. Because in real legal world any evidence tampered would give the defence a hell of a day in defending their man as in questioning everything and believe me every case handled by KC’s character will be questioned as well. End up our villain walks away on technicality, But since HK is more lenient in the rules of evidence than USA I will say there will be some chance of still keeping the villain in prison.

And thanks to this article for being a story spoiler. Come on! Said so much!!

      2. Well, the title of the article is “ending spoilers for GJ revealed!” what else were they gonna talk about?

I’m disappointed L.A. sacrificed his principles to save Wong si fu. I think there could’ve been a better way b/c in the end, he didn’t uphold the law or justice.

      3. You think an underprivileged community like Sam Shui Po would care? And plus he is a part of their community. They are not going to turn their backs on him just cuz he went to jail.

why argue on the pragmatics of their world?

      4. Kenneth was in the ancient version of VOH?? I saw that series 2 times all the way through and don’t remember seeing him at all.. who did he play??

      5. @HTS: One time as a ppl in the Jianghu group. One time as a Kwan in the palace. One time as a person who just walked through.

      6. You wanna bet Law Ba is going to practice law for the next sequel… TVB really doesnt think 🙁

      7. Law Ba won’t practice law directly. He can be an adviser to Myolie.

      8. This TVB speaking…they will make Sharon Chan come back to GH2 be dub as a long lost twin sister form. Hy-potentially speaking….

Guarantee, Law Lik Ah will get the license back and do more weird cases,

    2. they actually did that in another legal drama where ella and steven ma is in it. but i dont remember the name.

also, kevin’s real motivation was never really about justice, it’s about protecting things he loves and cares for. ie: sam sui po neighbors, underprivileged, etc

      1. One of the reason the series is very good because it concentrates on underprivileged neighborhood such as Sham Shui Po instead of TVB typical series of focusing on arguing families and rich businesses

      2. @ Yina: Survivor Law 2.

I still laugh at how a pervert client in part 1 turn to MK lawyer in part 2 without any explanation. They might forgot that Kenneth in part 1 acts a cameo role as a pervert client.

      3. Prolly Kwan :P. They might be secret twin brothers.

      4. @ Fox

“I still laugh at how a pervert client in part 1 turn to MK lawyer in part 2 without any explanation. They might forgot that Kenneth in part 1 acts a cameo role as a pervert client.”

Why Kenneth didn’t remind the casting people that he has played a pervert client in part 1? 😛

But, then again. Lee Sir in TA turn into Kong Sai Hau in U.E.

      5. Haha, TVB sure to have short memories.

I only watched the ancient version of VOH and I saw Kenneth as 3 different cameos role in this. 2 cameos roles only have 5 eps gap.

      6. Talk about lack of artists, I rmb that some ppl said there is a mid-age woman acted high school student in YSSS.

      7. I’ve read news that some of K4 also need to be kelefe even after being important supporting roles in YSSS

      8. Cilla Lok in the series has Charmaine, Liza and Joe with a long long name that I can’t never rmb.

  10. I haven’t watched the entire series yet, but I admit this is one of my favorites so far this year! I actually really like Kevin’s portrayal here and his other series “Only You.” It’s nice to see him portray a new kind of character rather than the usual pretty boy roles! Can’t wait for the sequel!

  11. That hiding the wooden bird weapon is so stupid. Police didnt search clearly with that search warrent? Thats the only negative part of the series.

Overall, an excellent series. Extend the story to the sequel and increase the episode order to 30+ episodes.

    1. i believe they did it for an symbolical appeal. Some people use the law to cover up their crime. Which is exactly what the wig covering the head of the cane means.

    2. Agree the series is excellent. It’s not your typical TVB series and every story and characters are well written. I don’t have complains to the producer and scriptwriter this time.

Kevin also has a life changing career phenomenon after this series.

    3. other than Tim Sir (Bobby in FH) not many Forensic Analyst are good in TVB =P

  12. Really, this is definitely the best series i’ve watched in 2011 so far. Really love the cast esp the characters of LAW BA and MAI GEORGE. there’s somethig so special and unique abt this series that i just couldn’t express but i really miss the cast and look forward to seeing them again!

  13. poor ending ,the drama so successful n t best drama that i see so far ,im just not in to myolie sorry fans ,anyway dont worry kevin still t best …..

  14. Ummm…i think i heard that niki chow was supposed to be in “Ghetto Justice 2” posing as sharon chan’s sister. IDK if its true or not, could be.
