Gavin Gao’s Court Hearing Extended; Will Apply for Bail Again

In March, Mainland Chinese actor Gavin Gao (高雲翔) was arrested in Australia, along with Wang Jing (王晶), for sexual assault of a 36-year-old woman inside a hotel. The pair are currently held in the Silverwater Correctional Complex, the largest prison in Australia, during their trial.

The pair allegedly forced intercourse with the victim, who had noticeable bruises on her legs and back. Furthermore, blood stains and seminal fluids were found at the crime scene. The result of the blood stain identification is the menstrual blood of the victim. However, identification of the seminal fluid has not been publicly revealed. Due to the high-profile case and sufficiency of evidence, Gavin and Wang Jing were denied bail.

During the last hearing, Gavin’s legal team requested subpoenas to be issued in order to retrieve CCTV tapes and telephone records from the hotel. The court approved the defending team’s request and a follow-up hearing was scheduled for June 7. The hearing, however, lasted no more than mere minutes. During the hearing, the defendant’s lawyer expressed that they had not received a portion of the requested evidence. In addition, they need more time to gather medical evidence. The judge and prosecutors agreed with the proposal and the new evidence will be presented on July 5.

  1. …the article doesn’t match the title… the hearing didn’t get extended. The delayed the hearing. So did the lawyer ask for bail? Was it approved?

Shoddy write-up. Boo to the original writer xD

  2. I think the hearing is postponed because the defendant requested to see the cctv videos taken at the karoke club. My guess is that they may try to prove sex was consensual esp. If videos show the alleged victim behaving amorously. It is a common line of attack in such cases. Interesting to know outcome.
