Jill Vidal Discusses Recovery from Heroin
When Jill Vidal and her ex-boyfriend, Kelvin Kwan, were arrested in Japan for drug possession in 2009, the news stunned fans. In a recent four minute video clip, Jill Vidal recounted her recovery from heroin. She detailed her struggle in prison and battling heroin withdrawl. In the video, Jill spoke in English and Chinese subtitles were provided.
In April 2009, Jill and Kelvin visited Japan and Kelvin was caught with possession of marijuana while heroin was found in Jill’s luggage. Two years have elapsed and Jill has returned to Hong Kong. However Jill and Kelvin no longer maintain contact with each other.
Upon her arrest by the Japanese police, Jill was detained for 60 days and her case was highly publicized. This caused much suffering and Jill spiraled into a very dark point in life. She was most affected when her parents did not offer any support. Her only pillar was her twin sister, Janice Vidal.
Jill was detained in a rehabilitation clinic to help quit her drug habit. She was chained and during the withdrawal episodes, which occurred at 3 or 4 AM in the morning, her body ached. It felt as if her bones were being nibbled by ants. Her pain was not merely physical but psychological as well. She felt scared and lonely at this time. Suicide to end it all was an option Jill had contemplated.
Dr. Cheung, a psychiatrist consulted by the Sun newspaper, pointed out that the hardest part of quitting heroin was passing a one week withdrawal period. Heroin addicts have been seen to ram their heads against the wall or vomit bile.
In a moment of faith, Jill said to God, “If you are real, please help me.” When she awoke, her heart felt different; it had softened. Since her belief in God, she has mended ties with family, friends, and colleagues. Currently, Jill was dedicated to her faith and was grateful.
In her professional life, Jill has not yet seen any opportunities. When the manager of Amusic was asked about Jill’s future, she said that Janice will be recording a new CD but the company did not have plans for Jill yet. While in Hong Kong, Jill helped with church activities and improving her skills. In 2010, she made a brief appearance to celebrate her boss, Leon Lai’s, movie release <翻生奇兵>。.
On the contrary, Jill’s ex-boyfriend, Kelvin Kwan, was in a different position. After his detention in Japan, he returned to Hong Kong. He career was put on professional hold (frozen) but his god father, Alan Tam, publicly supported him. Last year, Kelvin returned to the music industry and released a CD. This year, he appeared in an episode of《親密損友》。

It is such a waste. Jill is the most talented singer in Hong Kong since the late Anita Mui.
Please don’t her in the same category with Anita. She is and always will be more talented then the latest pop tarts the music industry has been rolling out. The way she sings, even late in her life has more emotion than anyone I’ve heard in the past 2 decades. Jill still has a lot to learn before she even comes close to Anita.

I was quite touched by Jill’s experience. Any drug addiction is difficult to quit. I admire her in coming out and sharing that dark period in her life, detailing her rehabilitation and recovery.
Too many people dabble in drugs nowadays. Drugs have even become a recreational habit, something to do to take the stress off. I’ve gone to company parties where people smoke marijuana.
I’ve never dabbled in drugs my entire life and would like to stay that way. If the going gets tough, there are other ways to cope rather than harming one’s body.

Totally agree with you Jayne and I always hear about artists smoking cigarettes since they say that it helps them stay awake and relax. I have never used drugs and never will. Aren’t there other ways of relaxing and staying awake?? I think everyone is stressed one way or another, but that doesn’t mean that we need to resort to drugs since drugs would just make things worse.
I also commend Jill for sharing her experiences and getting off of drugs. Not everyone is able to do so. Maybe her experiences will encourage others to get their lives back on track. Wish her the best and hope that she will make a successful comeback!
I like both Janice and Jill (yes, Janice more because her voice is more beautiful than Jill’s).
Jill has a mistake in the past, hope she can stand up and make her life brighter in the future. Drew Barrymore can get her life back, Jill should learn from her.
It’s a pity her parents decided not to support her.
I’m glad she is getting back on her feet and being a public figure I think it helps that she got her story out there.
Maybe by her parents not doing that she matured and got better?

Congrats to her for able to quit heroine. Hope she have a good path ahead. I think she will be like Sammi Cheng now. They found God in the worst period of their life. Wish Jill all the best! And it’s great to see that she’s able to get thru the dark times. Her talent, along with Janice’s, is surely wasted at A music. I really hope that we will hear some new music soon and see some new performances. And when that happens, it’ll be because she has earned it and fought for it, unlike her ex who uses the Godfather card to help him. Not to say that Kelvin isn’t talented, but man, it makes life a lot easier when Allan Tam is in your corner …

I just know that Jill is JAnice twin sister. Before this I only knew janice.
I must say that Jill had been through quit a harsh moment since her parents didn’t support her n Janice was quite busy with her carrier and of course that makes her lonely and had the thought of suicide. But I’m glad that she was strong enough to get through all of that and stand on her own feet.
