Kaman Kong Confesses Friendship with Crystal Fung is “Over”

Hong Kong artiste Kaman Kong (江嘉敏) has set her mind to step out of her comfort zone after deciding to not renew her contract with TVB in February of this year. Recently Kaman sat in an interview with a radio program where she reflected on her career with TVB and her relationships.

Kaman revealed that her mother opposed her decision to enter the entertainment industry because the industry is complicated. As luck would have it, Kaman was embroiled in two major scandals in her career: accused of being a third party in Vincent Wong (王浩信) and Yoyo Chen’s (陳自瑤) marriage and accused of being a social climber at Arnaldo Ho’s  (何猷亨) Yacht Party.

When asked if she now agrees that the entertainment industry is complicated, Kaman responded, “It is complicated, so if I have children in the future, I will not let them enter the entertainment industry.” Kaman added that when her homewrecker scandal broke out while she was filming Fist Fight <兄弟>, Kaman had thought about harming herself. Thankfully her costars Tiffany Lau (劉穎鏇) and Louis Cheung (張繼聰) were there to supper her.

Kaman revealed that the scandals gave her immense stress that resulted in her gaining weight. Kaman shared, “I am used to eating when I am stressed. Now I don’t that at all. I have learned to deal with my emotions. In the past, I used to wear the word ‘courage’ on my chest and respond to the negative comments. Now I know how to distinguish them and laugh at the negative comments.”

Yacht Party Incident

In the aftermath of the Yacht Party Scandal, Kaman’s friendship with Crystal Fung (馮盈盈) turned sour as they offer differing account how they were invited to the party. When asked if she learned anything from the scandal, Kaman responded, “I used to act on my emotions first, but when I grew up, I know that venting emotion first will make the unresolved issues rose. Now I have learned to calm down five minutes first and deal with my emotions first.”

When asked if she believes in true friendship between actresses, she said, “Now I believe in trust between people. People have different friends at every stage of their life, and I can only say that our gate has ended. In the past, I would hope that friendship would be forever, but now I know there is no happiness in forcing them to do so.”

Infidelity in Relationship?

Kaman admitted she had previously endured her ex’s repeated infidelities when she was young and in love: “I didn’t know how to handle my first love. I thought about getting married as soon as I started a relationship. I would think for the other person that he would make a mistake once! On the second occasion, I thought there won’t be a third time. On the third time, I thought he wouldn’t do it a fourth time, until I asked myself: What do you think of me?”

Kaman continued, “I didn’t wake up even after we broke up. I would imagine that if he came back to me within 7 days, I would be with him again. Now when I think back to those days, I want to slap myself twice!”

In Kaman’s last relationship, there was rumor that her ex ended their relationship because he was not happy with her short haircut in a drama. When asked what she would do if she meet another partner with the same attitude, Kaman said firmly, “Bye Bye! The tone sounds bitchy, but I don’t regret saying that! We should break up immediately. Bye Bye.”

Stepping Out of the Comfort Zone After TVB

Kaman shared that she previously negotiated her contract with TVB three times in the six months before her contract expired, but ultimately decided to leave. Kaman revealed, “The third time I talked with Catherina Tsang (曾勵珍) and Virginia Lok (樂易玲), they both talked to me about life and asked me what I wanted to do when I was 30. It made me think about the things I wanted to do no matter if they were big or small. There are really still many things I want to try! For example, a musical and making another movie. Finally, I mustered up a lot of courage to go out and try.”

Kaman ended up making a guest appearance in four showings of the musical, Our Journal of Springtime <我們的青春日誌>. Kaman confessed that she sought the role herself and wanted to perform regardless of the role and remuneration: “I learned to sing for a month beforehand, but it was a big deal because I was nervous. I was looking for the passion I had when I first joined the entertainment industry.”
