The popularity of the comic, Storm Riders <風雲>, yielded to the production of various films in the 1990s. Now, the wuxia comic is being made into musical stage play, starring Kevin Cheng (鄭嘉穎) as the outwardly cold and unsympathetic Striding Cloud and Michael Tse (謝天華) as Frost. Meanwhile, Lawrence Cheng (鄭丹瑞) reprises his role as Jester, and Wayne Lai (黎耀祥) also reprises his role as the Mud Buddha. The production showcases action stunts, dancing and singing.
Many of the cast’s good friends came to support and watch the show, including Chilam Cheung (張智霖), Anita Yuen (袁詠儀), Myolie Wu (胡杏兒), Winki Lai (賴慰玲), and Liza Wang (汪明荃.)
Kevin’s girlfriend, Grace Chan (陳凱琳) also came to show her support. She said, “This time, I am here with Kevin’s mother, but she is sitting with her friends in the front row. I am sitting with Winki. I came here on April 4 to watch their dress rehearsal. I felt like I had the whole place to myself. It was very enjoyable. A lot of thought was put into the production. The cast all sing and dance, and the stage is so nice! It’s very different from other stage plays I’ve watched before.”
Afterward, Grace praised Kevin on her social media account, “My Knight in Shining Armor! I know how hard you’ve trained, how long you’ve practiced, and I’m so, SO proud of your performance!”
To prepare for his role as the strong and muscular Cloud, Kevin committed himself to a strict exercise and diet routine and successfully shed 20 pounds. Despite his now fitter physique and healthier diet, the constant movements and action aggravated his old injuries. Kevin reflected, “Last year, I had surgery on my left foot because of a torn meniscus. Plus, my knees were injured before. This time, the show requires many movements, so it has aggravated old injuries. During rehearsal periods, I often had to go see the doctor.”
