Kristal Tin Vows to Remain With TVB

Newly-crowned TV Queen Kristal Tin (田蕊妮) is grateful to TVB for all of her successes, and is planning to stay with the company even without a pay raise.

Kristal entered the industry via a singing competition in 1993, and spent the next decade workinyg for ATV. After signing with TVB in 2006, she quickly earned her place as a major supporting actress, best known for her portrayals of headstrong, career-minded women. Although frequently typecast into similar roles, Kristal’s tough image left a lasting impression and ultimately became the key to her success.

Although billed as a secondary female lead, Kristal’s performance as smart and sassy Yiu Man Ying outshone TV Queen favorite Linda Chung (鍾嘉欣) in Brother’s Keeper <巨輪>. While Man ing’s stubborn loyalty was her major selling point, it was her weaker, more fragile self that viewers resonated with. Kristal’s ability to seamlessly transition between these two aspects won her the majority vote last night, and gave her proper recognition for the first time in her long acting career.

Amidst tears and a rambling speech, Kristal thanked everyone for her achievements, and showed her appreciation for the opportunities given by TVB. As she wrapped up the memorable evening, Kristal once again spoke kindly of her company, declaring that she will stay for the long haul. “I’ve never thought about [getting a pay raise], but I definitely won’t leave TVB. It’s a great platform for me to do what I love.”

Kristal is also grateful to her husband, actor Chapman To (杜汶澤). Married since 2005, Kristal and Chapman have had many ups and downs but remained loyal and supportive of each other. Chapman, who watched the awards with friend Louis Koo (古天樂), was even more excited than his wife. So excited in fact, he celebrated by becoming completely drunk and had to be taken home. Chapman had nothing but praise for Kristal as he spoke to the press on December 17, and joked that he wishes her continued success as he has plans to become a freeloading husband. All jokes aside, Chapman is truly happy for his wife and reveals himself as a loving man. “I will take care of the household so she can work hard to chase after her dreams. It is tough to act under stress.”

  1. Of course Kristal Tin will stay in TVB in the next two years at least, to establish her TV Queen status and to pay her dues. She is not well recognized by Hongkong or Mainland Chinese audience.

  2. She definitely deserve to win. But I wouldn’t use the win as a way to stay with TVB if I were her cuz the company is sooo corrupted… If she backs out on her words later on, people aren’t gonna be happy.

    1. No matter how corrupted TVB is, TVB is the organization that gave Kristal Tin the opportunity to showcase her best acting. I think she should stay in TVB for at least 2 to 3 years. Otherwise, her name will be ruined and her acting will not “downgraded” by certain viewers. She will be stupid to leave TVB in the near future no matter she gets a pay raise or not. At least she will be cast in bigger productions.

      1. can’t say that TVB is corrupted, where are your proofs & evidences??

If you are saying TVB is corrupted then all film productions are corrupted as well.

crows are all equally black, 天下乌鸦一样黑

  3. Not a fan of Kristal , but she did very well in her acting and deserved those awards!

    1. I am not either, but she really acted very well as Ah Ying, showing the good and bad sides of her character. No one complained about her winning, which is veerrrry unusual!

      1. lol no one except those Linda Chung Fans causing trouble on weibo. Of course me and Kristal fans won’t take their insults! <.< Don't like Kristal then leave. 😛 Kristal won many support. First, the Best Actress award at TVB anniversary voted by colleagues. Then she was ranked no.1 by both professional judgea and public votes allowing her to get both Best Actress and Most Favorite Female character! No doubt she was the most liked by audience.

  4. Miss TV Queen Kristal needs to “fire” her hair stylist ASAP and find a waaaaaay better one.

    1. Also her evening gowns ……….. I never liked them in the last 2 events.

      1. You took the words right out of my mouth! What she wore last year was bad enough, but what she wore on Monday night really made me cringe. See how the dress compresses whatever little assets she has. To make it worse, she paired it off with black, I repeat, black stockings!

Not being mean, but I hope she reads this and either changes her existing stylist if she has one, or gets a good stylist.

Totally agree, plus there is an opening in the middle of her evening gown (Awards Ceremony) around her breast areas. She does not have a nice figure, and her dress makes her look worse.

      1. In fact, I don’t mind her hair do. I just don’t like her evening gowns.

      2. Agreed, when she was up there getting her awards and making her speech, my eyes were fixed on her hair mess (wondering whether her hair stylist is her enemy).

      3. There’s nothing wrong with her hair, it’s fine. The gown could’ve been better, the top part was definitely too compressed. The black stockings or whatever that was worked well though.

  5. To be honest I’ve not seen her drama that much. but i did watch her in bk. She actually did amazing job over Linda. So she deserve to win. I hope in the future i could see she portray more other roles. etc doctor, Lawyer

  6. When I watched Phoenix Rising, a warehoused series that was released in Malaysia few years back, her excellent acting skills was already very obvious in that series. Both Louisa So and her were neck and neck in terms of acting prowess. Too bad not many people especially the HK audience got to watch that series.

      1. I haven’t watched it. Cannot comment, but Kristal Tin is more suitable for some mature characters due to her face, age and built. She was very suitable to act Ah Ying. I don’t think any fadan can outshine her in Ah Ying’s character.

      2. For those who haven’t, you guys seriously need to go watch Phoenix Rising, Kristal female lead role in there is totally different from Ah Ying in BK! That was her first TVB series too. Her character also goes through change and matures towards the end. But the ending is quite sad.

    1. I watched the very first drama series of Kristal Tin, i.e. I have a date with Spring” and she was very green and young.

      1. I only remember her as Yang Wen Guang in the Heroine of the Yangs where she was a female acting as a male. She did a good job and is a good actress but I do not like it when women play men’s roles though.

      2. Have you ever watched Yam Kim Fai acting in male roles in Chinese operas? She was excellent for those siu sang’s (書生)roles.

Also Ling Bor got super popular in a Shaw’s (Mandarin) drama series as Leung San Pak. She was famous overnight in that drama series, also in male roles. She was never popular when she acted female roles, same as Yam Kim Fai.

      3. The first series of Kristal Tin I watch was ‘ Coincidentally’ starring Frankie Lam, Kristy Kung, Eric Wan and Annie Man. She played Annie Man’s younger sister.

But, the most memorable role of hers in ATV to me ‘Venture Against Time’ as rich girl Luk Yu Yan. Her character has a lot of development in the series.

Another memorable role she has in ATV is ‘Lights of a Million Hope’. She played Joey Meng’s older sister, but, I find her looking younger than Joey, which she is.

I’m happy that TVB finally let her sing themesongs. They should have done so long ago. Kristal Tin has a beautiful voice. She sang a lot of themesongs for ATV when she was with the station. The themesong of ‘Legend: Dream Named Desire’ was sang by her.

      1. Can’t remember if I watched it. I think I heard about the name of the drama series somehow.

      2. i’ve watched that too! i wonder why it’s warehoused. highly recommended!

      3. Probably cause Sunny Chan was the male lead and TVB doesn’t like him and warehouses most of his series. Another reason was that most of the actors weren’t TVB favorites starring Kristal Tin, Sunny Chan, Louise So, Leila Tong, Jack Wu, Nancy Wu, etc. After Phoenix Rising where she was female lead, Kristal was stuck playing supporting characters. After a while she received a few supposedly lead roles that looked more like supporting until BK came along.

    2. YES YES!

      She caught my attention too!

Louisa is excellent in my opinion(in any role) and Kristal is as good!

I was like, who is this person!

  7. Interesting turn of events considering not too long ago was it her husband who complained TVB didn’t treat her right?

    1. You are right. In fact, I was also surprised that TVB is not petty this time ……. to let his wife, Kristal Tin, win TV Queen and Most Favourite Female Character.

      1. Maybe TVB is finally trying to change and prove that they are fair and are not petty?

      2. Good sign then! I hope they will keep it and be fair to all their artistes.

      3. Me too TVB’s known to be pety. I’m surprised they weren’t mad about his complaint and held Kristal accountable for the tv award results. Then again Chapman says even worst things about their origin tv station ATV so… :/

      4. Well if they are truly not “pety” they would’ve nominated Sheren Tang for Best actress which they didn’t. :p

  8. is that a wardrobe malfunction i see? Kristal looked like she was going to spill out of her gown.

    1. Good but funny comments. I had similar feelings. Ha ha …..

      1. no seriously, i mean i do see a wardrobe malfunction. Look at her right b-reast, i think i can see something.

  9. When Kristal acts you can really feel her presence in the scenes she’s in. She is, to me, a good actor and I’ve loved her in all the series she’s in, like Only You, Brother’s Keeper and at least one more other which name I’ve forgotten. I’m glad she won the two awards that night which she did not quite expect.

    1. Yeah. She also acted well in “Only You”, but I did not like her that much in the drama series with Ruco Chan, “No Good Either Way”. She was not amazing.

      1. I never liked her but I did quite like her in No Good Either Way. She and Ruco made a good pair, interestingly. However I do not think she is TVB’s best actress but she has her advantages sometimes.

      2. I guess everyone’s tastes and expectations are not the same.

      3. “I do not think she is TVB’s best actress”

Well, if it’s between Kristal and Linda, it’s definitely Kristal for me. She really puts herself out there (not holding anything back).

      4. No Good Either Way was a horrible series, script seemed like something just thrown together. Kristal wasn’t given much to work with, her role barely had any scenes related to the main office people/plot. The poor script also affected Ruco’s acting which wasn’t great as well.

  10. She did a better job in Brother’s Keeper compared to Linda. She deserves it!

  11. I remember her very well in early ATV series Legend something in secondary villain role against Simon Yam and Monica Chan. She played jealous pageant princess turned rich guy’s mistress.

    1. It was Legend a Dream Named Desire – Elaine Kwong was in it too!

      1. Yeah, I remember her in that series, too. That series was pretty good! I want to watch it again, but the videos available are low-quality.

  12. i luvvv how she and Elanne Kong said they were working for years for ATV and no one watched their series hahahaha

  13. Where could this ugly woman go to? She is ugly and too old to pair with most of “Shi San” in TVB.

    1. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Us fans thinks she’s beautiful and besides she’s a skilled actress not some idol actresses who only relies on their looks.

  14. In No Good Either Way, she is like Ruco’s old sister or his step-mother. I’d rather Ruco pairs with 唐詩詠 in that series.

    1. Disagree. I don’t find Kristal looking older than Ruco in ‘No Good Either Way’. Saying she looks like his step-mother is way exaggerated unless you mean a step-mother who is younger than him.

They look around the same age. Both look in their 30s.

  15. Personally I think Kristal Tin is good in acting strong-personality characters, like Ah Ying, but not as good in weak-personality characters. She does not look very very soft and feminine.

  16. was she facing some dress multifunction or just a bad angle? congrats anyway
