Maggie Cheung to Replace Charmaine Sheh in “Forensic Heroes 3”

Kate Tsui Chi San, Raymond Wong Ho Yin, Yoyo Chen, and Vivien Yeo Sau Wai attended a promotional event for TVB series, A Great Way to Care<仁心解码>.  Last week, the series averaged thirty-one points in ratings, peaking at thirty-five points.

Since Alex Fong Chung Shun was in China , he could not attend the promotional event for A Great Way to Care. Kate revealed that she spoke with Alex and learned that he will be back in Hong Kong for the Lunar New Year holiday. Excited by the ratings peaking at thirty-five points and the series generating good word-of-mouth, Kate hoped that a sequel would be produced so that she can pair with Alex. When Alex returns to Hong Kong , a celebratory event will be held due to the series’ good performance.

Kate was originally looking forward to partnering with Charmaine Sheh Si Man in new TVB series, Forensic Heroes 3. Since Charmaine injured her arm in China , her role will be given to Maggie Cheung Ho Yee instead. Kate said, “It’s very unfortunate. The producer of Forensic Heroes 3 announced that Maggie will replace Charmaine. I was looking forward to working with Charmaine and Maggie equally. With Wayne as a TVB Best Actor and Maggie as former TVB Best Actress, this should be a good ratings booster!”

Jayne: Hope Charmaine is on her road to recovery. In terms of looks, Maggie Cheung may match better with Wayne . Did they work together before in a series, not as love interests but as co-stars that had significant onscreen time together?

Btw, I do find that entering her thirties, Kate Tsui looks a lot better than her early Miss Hong days.

  1. Actually I can only remember one series Wayne and Maggie was in one series, she was in her early years and he was still rather good. What series, that one about people in GuangZhou? Anyway Wayne had more screen time with Mui Siu Wai and Maggie with Cheng Tan Sui is I remember his name correctly. I don’t even think they were ever in one scene together.

  2. Maggie and Wayne were in Return of the Condor Heroes together.

  3. I am very disappointed that none of main characters from the first FH remained. I was disappointed when Charmaine joined FH 2, never like her. Very happy that Maggie Cheung is replacing her, but do hope her a speedy recovery.

    1. Agree with everything you said too….very happy when I read this article.

  4. They might as name it something else instead of Forensic Files since none of the original cast are in it. I am interested in seeing Maggie and Wayne collaborate. That should be a good pair. I also think Charmaine looks too young for Wayne, but I am sure they will have opps to work together in a future series since they had looked forward to working together. But I think Maggie is a good replacement. Another possible candidate that would have been good is maybe Flora Chan. I loved her in Untraceable Evidence with Bowie! She also looks mature enough to match with Wayne.

    1. If Charmaine looks too young for Wayne, then what of Nancy Wu??

    2. Disgaree. Wayne doesn’t look that old. You can say they don’t look like a couple. But, they don’t look that far apart in age that Charmaine will be too young for him.

Like Funn mentioned, Wayne has paired with actresses younger than Charmaine and the pairing works. Beside Nancy, Wayne has also paired with Claire Yiu.

      1. Kidd, IMO, Wayne has a mature and “uncle” look, perhaps due to his everyday man look. Or perhaps he played many unglamorous roles as the brother, uncle, or husband that was dressed in a “wifebeater” tank, shorts, and sandals. His casual” uncle” image has been ingrained in my head for many years.

Other acotrs, such as Bobby and Bowie, do not possess an “uncle” image because they did not play such undressed and “everyday man” roles to Wayne’s extent. Bowie often played a lot of characters with class and Bobby played his share of police and professional roles.

As a result, I also have trouble seeing Wayne pair with overly young actresses. Since previous collaborations with Nancy Wu were period dramas, costumes and hairpieces help to lessen their age differences. In modern dramas, the age difference would be harder to mask.

      2. IMO, I don’t think Wayne matches with Nancy either. She looks too young for him as well. Claire Yiu is ok-she looks mature enough. Same with Sonija and Anne, who look more mature than Charmaine as well. I was just mentioning that Charmaine looks young compared to him. But as I mentioned in my original message, I’m sure they will have an opportunity to collaborate together in the future. I have no problem with it. I just think Maggie might look look more compatible with Wayne look and age-wise. Wayne, like Jayne said, has a level of maturity that makes him more suited for more sophisticated roles. Hopefully with more lead roles, we can see him in a different image than before.

      3. Have you guys watched Wayne in Off Peddar? I thought his image there was quite a turning point for him – for once he was playing an intelligent modern day office worker, with high IQ and EQ…pretty glam i must say.

      4. I did and he looked very very handsome. I find him rather sexy with that look, as in desirable. How fame can change a person eh? I actually thought he and Nancy Wu suited each other, maybe I am just used to him with her as a couple. I find they have chemistry.

Bowie looks and dresses like an uncle off screen. Wayne in fact dresses younger than Bowie does. I don’t see Wayne as uncle image, but yes I did see him as an everyday man, not much education rough sort of guy, until Off Pedder changed that which shows a good actor is a good actor in any costume. However I can’t imagine him as an emperor or CEO of a big company but police detective, high ranking police, yes. Forensic scientist will take some use to though.

      5. And talking about pairing with Charmaine, when will TVB realise Sunny Chan is there, still looks the same as he did a decade ago and should be paired with Charmaine, again? WHEN?

      6. @ Funn

“However I can’t imagine him as an emperor or CEO of a big company”

Wait till he playsed one, then you will be convinced. He was able to convince you that he’s handsome and sexy in ‘Off Peddar’ after all. 🙂

      7. @ Jayne

I personal don’t have problem with Wayne playing hot sexy desireable men or professional men because I have always found him handsome. Plus, the man is a chameleon. Give him any role and he can play it convincingly.

But, I can understand your POV. He often given this unglamous roles and that’s the impression that got stuck on people.

      8. @Funn, LOL do you find Wayne desirable because of his image in Off Peddar or that in real life, he earned his wisdom through life experiences? Intelligence can indeed make a man desirable. Or fame and status as you pointed out. I admire him because in many interviews, he comes across as an introspective, thoughtful and well spoken man.

@Kidd, Wayne is indeed convincing in many roles. I believe he will do fine as emperor as well because he can deliver the speech of an ancient scholar well. He is a skilled enough actor to be mindful of his gestures to deliver the posture and gestures of a man of noble upbringing if he is intent on it. The only problem may be Wayne’s “everyday man” look.

In some interviews I read, it was pointed out that part of Wayne’s recent popularity is to his “everyday man” feel that he delivers to the audience. His excellent acting skills are widely acknowledged, but that does not necessarily mean that the audience will accept him. The theory is that his looks and image is that of a “everyday man” and the audience, after following his performances for two decades, were eager to support a person, perhaps just like you and eye, finally rise to the top through sheer dedication and hard work. Wayne Lai’s story is a story of sucess and inspiration and inspires people that they can make it one day as well. It is a very powerful message and a great way to “market” Wayne in a unique way. We all love to support the underdog and Chai Kau from “Rosy Business” and even Wayne Lai are underdogs that rose through all obstacles to become men of position and influence.

Personally I find that Wayne excels in comedies playing flawed characters, with a smart-mouth and “unkind” edge, much like Stephen Chow and Dicky Cheung type characters with less menace.

  5. I think Maggie is better choice,,, coz Charmaine has no look for that kind of series

  6. I believe Maggie and Wayne were in The Conqueror’s Story together and had a fair bit of onscreen time with each other but not as love interests. They had a use-distrust sort of relationship.

    1. Yes yes how can I forget that series. He was the arrogant general, she the cunning wife of the emperor. Doesn’t mix well.

  7. Now I am actually looking forward to the series. I still can’t imagine Charmaine with Wayne. It reminds me of Ada Choi + Bobby Au in Arm Reaction III, which didn’t turn out bad but still wasn’t half as good as Bobby + Esther Kwan. I haven’t seen Maggie’s series since her return. Hope she’s still good.

    1. Physically, Bobby Au Yeung doesn’t match physically with a lot of actresses. But he often has a great onscreen chemistry with many actresses, likely because he has a great sense of humor and many actresses don’t have to worry about being entangled in romantic rumors with him. Bobby does tend to bring out the best in his co-stars.

  8. Maggie Cheung is returning? Perhaps I’m really not up to date with the news. I’ve been rewatching “Old Time Buddy” and she was so sweet and cute in that series. I loved her paired up with Gallen Lo…who’s not at TVB anymore unfortunately.

I haven’t watched any of the other FH’s so perhaps I’ll try to catch this one to see Maggie and Wayne together. 🙂

    1. Iampheng, Maggie starred in” My Better Half” with Michael Miu, but the series was not very highly received. She had thyroid illness which was the reason she took leave from acting. She also suffered from depression at one point and she used the time to find herself and the meaning of happiness.

      1. Maggie Cheung was also in Beauty Knows No Pain… which wasn’t aired that long ago… summer of 2010 i believe

  9. Maggie replacing Charmaine made the series a few times better

  10. I will have to agree that replacing Maggie with Charmaine is a better choice. I like Charmaine but she is in WAY TOO many series now. Kind of got tired of her. This would be a 1st that a married man falls for a older woman(not that Maggie is old). It’s usually the opposite where a married man falls for a younger woman. I believed Wayne’s wife in this series is Nancy Wu right?

  11. I agree.. kate does look better now… it’s probably because she has lost all her “baby fat” that was on her face…. but isn’t artistes is looking better than when they first entered?

  12. I am glad that Maggie replace Charmaine as well. I think the chemistry between Maggie and Wayne would be awesome as both are stellar actors. I now look forward to this show.

  13. I actually would prefer Charmaine over Maggie… Maggie seems off since her return to TVB, I can’t quite figure out what.

  14. I am very happy with Maggie taking over. Loved her in Beauty Knows No Pain.

However, FH is not FH without Bobby. They might as well name it something else since the cast is totally different already.

    1. I know what you mean. Not one single original cast will be back.

  15. Yes I am miss the old cast as well especially Franky Lam. Love watching him. I never miss Charmaine in any series.

  16. though i feel bad that charmaine was injured and had to pull out of this, i’m really very happy that wayne and maggie are collaborating together! in fact, by just changing the female lead, my interest in fh 3 has gone up from 0% to 100%! i’m very sure that i will definitely watch fh 3! 😀

  17. Kate looks more mature now she’s older. Although she’s lost that ‘cuteness’ she had when she was competing for Miss HK.

  18. When I found out that none of the main cast of FH2 would be in FH3 I was most disappointed and thought I’d skip watching the latter. The straw that broke the camel’s back was, of course, the breaking of Charmaine’s leg that made her lose the opportunity to remain in the series. Well, it looks like a totally new series and as some have commented, the title may as well be changed to something else rather than FH3. If so then it will be a differnt story altogether. I think Maggie Cheong should fit the role of ‘madam’ better than Charmaine, after seeing her in Women Know No Pain. Charmaine has a softer character. Bobby was very good in FH2 but Wayne should also fit his role well.He is indeed an excellent actor.
