Miriam Yeung Recovering from “Chocolate Tumor” Surgery

Singer/actress Miriam Yeung (楊千嬅) is currently recovering from ovarian surgery. Miriam entered the hospital to remove a “chocolate tumor”, a type of endometrioma that bleeds on a frequent basis and has the appearance of dried blood.

Although the “chocolate tumor” is not life-threatening, it may cause difficulty in ovulation, resulting in infertility. Since Miriam has always wanted a daughter and hopes to be able to have another baby before turning 40 next year, she opted for surgery to remove the benign tumor. She checked into the private ward of the Hong Kong Sanotorium for a day surgery last week, and was discharged 2 days later.

When reporters contacted husband, Real Ting (丁子高) to inquire about Miriam’s health, he was evasive and just answered, “Don’t worry. She’s fine,” without elaborating further. Even Miriam’s company did not want to comment and directed the reporters to ask Miriam personally when she attends the 2013 Hong Film Awards on Saturday, April 13.

Successful Surgery

Yesterday, Miriam broke the silence and posted on her Weibo, thanking her fans and friends for their concern. “I have received many get-well wishes from friends. Thank you. Don’t worry, I’m resting well at home and everything is good. The surgery was successful. And thanks everyone for your support and encouragement.”  Attaching a photograph of her son, Torres, she added that he wanted to say hi to everyone too.

According to a local gynecologist,  endomometriosis is formed when the cells from the lining of the uterus appears in unusual places such as the pelvis. Coupled with hormonal stimulation, swelling occurs and a tumor is formed. Though Miriam’s tumor has been removed, chances of a relapse are possible.
