Producer Poon Ka-tak to Leave TVB?

The media is reporting that Poon Ka-tak (潘嘉德), veteran TVB producer who has been with the station for 40 years, may be leaving soon after completing his obligations for the drama Good Days <好日子>.

The speculations came about after Poon Ka-tak posted on social media that filming for Good Days has come to an end. “Saying goodbye to TVB’s Good Days,” said the post. Poon Ka-tak also shared a group photo he took with the cast and crew, including Alice Chan (陳煒), Ben Wong (黃智賢), and Gigi Wong (黃淑儀).

While many netizens congratulated the producer and the cast, one netizen left a rather cryptic comment that got the media to break into speculation. “Is it true? Or am I reading this the wrong way?” Poon Ka-tak replied, “Yes!”

Reporters called up Poon Ka-tak to ask whether or not Good Days would be his last TVB drama, but the 69-year-old producer denied. “No, no… I am still with TVB. I’m not retiring yet. I work behind the scenes, so please do not write about me!”

However, it’s been reported that Good Days is Poon Ka-tak’s last drama in his TVB contract.

Poon Ka-tak made his producer debut in 1987 with the miniseries The Wacky Wife <吾妻十三點> starring Carol Cheng (鄭裕玲). He produced over 30 television dramas in the 40 years he has been with TVB, including the popular The Hippocratic Crush <On Call 36小時>, Detective Investigative Files <刑事偵緝檔案>, and most notably the original 2003 drama Triumph in the Skies <衝上雲霄>. He was part of TVB’s 4th artiste training graduating class, a class that also included Johnnie To (杜琪峰), Cecilia Wong (黃杏秀), Joseph Lee (李國麟), Lau Sze-yu (劉仕裕), Tam Chuen-hing (談泉慶), and Samson Lai (賴水清).
