Sire Ma’s Domestic Helper Jailed for Theft

Sire Ma (馬賽) has been making headlines recently due to criticism over her performance in Bullet Brain <神探高倫布>. Unfortunate things seem to happen all at once for the TVB actress. Reporters discovered that Sire’s Indonesian domestic helper was recently charged with stealing $3,000 HKD from Sire’s bank account and was sentenced to one month in jail. Although deeply heartbroken by the betrayal, Sire wishes to give her helper a second chance and vows to take better precautions in the future.

Alone in Hong Kong, Sire hired 29-year-old domestic helper Ana Nurhasanah in January to help out with her daily chores. Sire became close with her assistant and eventually saw her as family. Since Sire has a busy filming schedule, she often delegated important tasks to Ana, even giving her access to personal debit card information.

On March 26, Sire checked her online banking account and discovered that $2,000 HKD was missing. Since she had possession of her debit card, Sire assumed the irregularity was simply a banking error. She became alert however when another $1,000 HKD was withdrawn the following day and her debit card was nowhere to be found. Sire contacted her bank immediately and asked Ana about the missing cash. Ana repeatedly denied any involvement. Sire then decided to report the theft to the police for further investigation.

During the search, the police found Sire’s missing debit card underneath Ana’s mattress. They also recovered several expensive watches, clothing, and make up worth over $10,000 HKD, all of which belonged to Sire.

Ana pleaded guilty to two charges of theft in court today. The domestic helper begged for leniency, and explained that she needed money to pay the medical bills for her 5 year old son back at home. She was later sentenced to one month in prison and required to return the $3,000 HKD back to Sire.

Speaking to reporters regarding the incident, Sire expressed disappointment and hoped to speak to Ana after her jail term is over. “I feel very disappointed because she denied it repeatedly even though we had a really good relationship. She was very kind to me and took good care of me. I will wait until she gets out of jail and ask her agent to speak with her.”

When asked if she will re-hire Ana, Sire explained, “I’ll wait and see what her attitude will be like. I don’t believe she has bad intentions. She probably fell prey to temptation and made a wrong choice…. I will consider re-hiring her if she is willing to change. I know that she has a son in Indonesia, and she is only in her twenties. Now that she has a criminal record it will be very difficult for her to find a new job.”

  1. I don’t understand why HK actors hire a “domestic helper”? Is it cheaper for them? Do they not trust other HK citizens?

    1. Whether it be hiring someone from another country or a local HK helper/worker, does it make a difference? Just because they may be born and raised in HK and become a helper does not necessarily mean it that they are more trustworthy here.

If i’m not wrong, I think a majority of people working as helpers in HK are those from who come from overseas. since it’s quite a common thing for foreigners to migrate to HK as helpers, hence, like you mentioned, it would be cheaper to hire since there are so many of them so they’d be willing be work for whatever price the agents’ offers since they need the money.

    2. “domestic helpers” can stay with you and attend to your needs almost 24 hours of the day. Can HK citizens do that?

  2. Sire sounds to be too trusting, almost naive based on this incident. After the helper is imprisoned, even if Sire rehires her, it will be a work relationship that has too much of a past.

    1. But since she’s been caught, sentenced to jail, if Sire offers to rehire her about they’ve spoken again, she may not repeat the same mistake-she’s knows she has a criminal record now, the chances of her geting hired by someone else is very low…stealing again and risk of getting caught AGAIN and put into jail with an even more serious sentence may be the last thing she’d want to get herself involved in. Afterall, she has a son waiting for her back home to be looked after.

I might sound naive here too, but knowing Sire will give her a second chance, that second chance may mean everything to her hence she won’t commit the same mistake.

      1. Once a theft always theft, I have the same problem like Sire Ma I sacked my maid in the end…

  3. Wow, I feel bad for Sire. Hope things start looking up for her. I don’t think she should rehire a person who stole and repeatedly lied about it to her

  4. You know why Honkers hire indians or Philippine slaves? Because they think they are above these people, so they can pay them peanuts. i mean if you hire a HK citizen to be your slave, they are gonna charge an extra $5000 extra. Indians pr philos will work for peanuts. This does nothing for her image at all, just shows she’s a racist cheapskank who wants a slave cause she’s too lazy to do the laundry herself.

    1. Normally I’d disagree with you because pretty much everything you say is drivel and you’re actually nuts, but you hit the nail on the head on this one.

    2. Do you know that most of the domestic workers in Hong Kong are from Phillippines, Indonesia, India, etc? You can rarely find HK domestic helpers. And do you know that these domestic helpers make a lot of money compared to what they can make back home? I have a friend who is Filipino, and she said that a lot of them want to go to HK to work because they can make way more money.

And also if you are saying that Sire Ma is a racist cheapskank, then so are all the HK celebrities. They all hire non-HK domestic helpers, so are they all racist cheapskank too? And it’s not that they are lazy to do their laundry. If the celebrities filming all day and night…they barely have time to sleep. How do they find time to do their own laundry and other house chores? I they have the little free time, I’m sure they would like to sleep and relax. So before you judge other people and call people names, please use your brain.

      1. I totally laughed when she said i’ll think about re hiring her again. Like it’s obvious she hates her and wants her out of her life, but in order to protect her image, she said that make her look less harsh. Like if someone stole thousands off you, are you gonna be like, oh i feel so sorry for you, i might re hire you? er no.

    3. How is she ‘racist’ and a ‘cheapskank’? How are you to know the reason why she hired Ana instead of others?

If she was racist, she would not even be hiring an Indonesian helper and let her enter her house…

Well if they are considered ‘lazy’ because tey can’t do the lauundry and housework while they are literally 24/7 mot of the time at work, then they might as well just quite their job and stay at home to do all the chores. In saying that I’m not at all saying it is necessary to hire a helper in order to balance work and home, but hey if Sire thought she really needed a helper, than what’s wrong with her hiring one?

And how is hiring an helper got to do with her image???? LOL The reason why hired a helper is to help out her personal life, not like she’s hiring one to set up her image to look/be a particular way and be judged by people like you.

    4. Just a thought. It depends from which perspective you are looking. If you were a hired Philippine you may find yourself earning more in HK than back home and be happy with it. If you were the one who hires maid, you find yourself hiring ones with lower wages and may feel bad when paying them minimum or in your view incredible low wage. But when talking to them and knowing what they would earned at their own homecountry, you don’t feel bad anymore. As a not entertainer, I have no idea about an actress or actors work schedule so I don’t know how busy one is or what the reason would be that an actor or actress can’t do house chores. But bottom line: if a person get a maid for a good price/low wage and the maid is happy with it. What would be the problem and who are we to prevent the two parties to get what they want?

      1. Good point you made there.

Even though it’s known that overseas workers get paid quite low in comparison to local/homegrown citizen workers, there is a reason why overseas workers choose to migrate and work in other countries-to earn money…whether it be peanuts or whatever compared to the average wage of locals, it’s still money. If people who believe that it is wrong to hire overseas workers who get paid very little money and don’t hire them in disagreement of cheap labour, then I don;t think the overseas workers would thank them for not hiring them.

If everyone stops hiring overseas workers because of this whole getting paid peanuts issue, I don’t think it’d stop the problem. They may still continue to migrate and find jobs that receive low pay elsewhere. The main thing is because they are willing to put out a lot for very little.

  5. Sire should just forget about her. I can’t believe she’s even thinking about talking to her after she comes out of jail…my god she’s so naive! In HK, you seriously can’t be lenient at all.

    1. I think she is stupid too. If she wanted to give her a second chance, then she shouldn’t have called the police and just talked to her. Now everything is done and her domestic helper will be jailed. There is no point to hire her back. Her domestic helper may have some grudges on Sire when she works for Sire again in future. Why does she ask for more troubles?

    2. Agree, I have the same problem like Sire M in the end I sacked my maid…a theft is always a theft…

  6. annoyed with her stupidly naive empathy at the stealing maid! hey sire jow dumb are you? the maid now might have a grudge at you for putting her in jail and might be planning revenge right now, and you are thinking of getting her to work with you again?

really annoyed. never met anyone this naive and dumb!

    1. what sire should do is let the authority ship her back to the poor filthy corrupted indonesia where the thief belong! it’s not sire’s concern anymore if the maid can’t find a job after committing a criminal offense!

    2. Lots of people are that stupid. Like Candy Chang in the drug scandal.

    3. I don’t know, if I sent someone who prepares my food and stuff to jail and then hire her back, I don’t know, I’d be scared. Might set me up for murder.

Somehow get my fingerprints onto a gun or something, lol

  7. what is Sire Ma’s sentence for stealing my precious time with her Bullet Brain drivel?

  8. In the Malay Kingdom countries, they have a really sensitive take on “face” – I can’t remember what it’s called. But from reading Phil gossip blogs, people are really fine tuned and take offense – I think Cantonese expect others to suck it up because from childhood, we are spoken to harshly and expected to accept it.

A Chinese judge in Malaysia won’t even throw the book at a Malay who beat his toddler to death for playing with his ciggies.

if you have to tippy toe around someone – that’s not a good sign.
