Steven Ma’s Autograph Signing in New York Invokes Chaos

On August 19th, Steven Ma Chun Wai flew to the United States and Canada . Visiting New York City ’s Chinatown first, Steven held an autograph signing session at Magnolia Jewelry Store.  Afterwards, he appeared as a guest performer at the Miss Chinese New York 2010 Pageant.

During the autograph session, Steven attracted a large number of fans residing in New York City and nearby suburbs. Two hours prior to the autograph session taking place, a long queue of fans started forming outside the jewelry store.

The owner of Magnolia Jewelry Store said he was a big Steven Ma fan; he gave a 24K gold ornament and a special gift for Steven as a reward for his appearance.

Jayne: The scene in front of the jewelry store was mass chaos. Living in New York City , we have a good chance to see Hong Kong celebrities as compared to other areas of the U.S.

  1. Because of the massive turnout of fans and time constraint, the line was abruptly closed few minutes into the session.

The crowd in the above picture was only an iceberg tip of an earlier crowd which was…huge. In the pix, people like me had already left the scene thinking that the session wouldn’t end anytime soon judging by the long line of people still waiting for their turn.

  2. Also, there were two queues outside the store, one for the VIP cardholders and one for peons like me.

  3. ^pandamao – “crying? a bit crazy eh?”

Are you refering to another news report? Bet the reporter has added ample salt and vinegar to the crying fan incident. This is what Steven wrote on his weibo. Guess her flight got delayed just like Steven’s was. Pity her!

Good afternoon! Just check in to the hotel, so tired! After a 15 hour flight, went straight to the jewelry store in China for an autograph signing event. Lots of people, the event organizer estimated there were close to 1000 people. Just couldn’t finish signing autographs for everybody. I know there was this ‘tong xue’ (person) who especially flew over from Boston but the signing event had already ended, so started crying at the venue. Don’t worry, I’ve signed and handed them over to the staff. They promised they will send them to you, so don’t worry. Will talk later, good night!

  4. Steven knew of the fan crying incident after the fact when he was given the items to sign.

  5. Lol – i’ve been reading from too many sites, thanks for the catch.

But yeah … i wouldn’t cry b/c someone didn’t sign my poster. a bit of a drama queen/king in my opinion. lol.

it was nice of stephen though.

  6. I would cry. Imagine I flew or drove all the way to see him and missed it. Very reasonable to cry if you’re his very biggest fan. I can imagine her frustration and I felt very nice of him to do what he did.

  7. problem is – i can’t imagine myself flying or driving all the way to see a celebrity.
i just don’t get how fans can do so much for an idol. if the celebrity won’t do the same for me, why should i got out of my way to see him?

there are bigger things in life to cry about than not getting a signature.
