Summary (May Contain Spoilers!)

Tai Ku Tung (Har Yu) was the owner of a well known cafe and his milk tea was very famous and popular. However, due to financial problems, he managed to con Sing (Benz Hui) into investing in his business. K Jeh (Christine Ng)’s father also had shares in the business which K Jeh and her younger sister San (Shirley Yeung) inherited. Thus the cafe had three share holders. However, K Jeh thought that Tung had stolen her father’s business so she plotted revenge.

Tung’s daughter, Gabe (Natalie Tong), and Sing’s son, Glenn (Sammul) were dating. San was good friends with the couple. However, San began to develop feelings for Glenn. Gabe’s boss, Horace (Pierre Ngo) developed feelings for Gabe and envied Glenn.

Hei (Kiki Sheung) had a wealthy husband but he had an affair and they divorced. However Hei’s husband wanted her to return to him, but she did not want to go back to her old lifestyle. She tried to hide from her husband by living simply. Hei worked at Tung’s cafe. However, due to an accident, she lost her memory. Tung told Hei that Sing was her husband and that Tung was her cousin. She went to live with Tung and Sing and Glenn pretended to be her son. They treated her really well and Sing developed feelings for Hei.

K Jeh’s revenge plan was working and sold her shares of the cafe to Hei’s husband. Hei’s husband decided to leave Sing in charge of the cafe because he realised that he had a close relationship with Hei and he wanted to make it up to Hei. Tung lost his cafe and had a mental breakdown. He tried to commit suicide but K Jeh tried to stop him since she learnt that Tung did not cheat her father but actually helped him with his financial problems.

Hei recovered her memory and was angry with Sing. Tung decided to start his own home cooking business at his home and Hei helped him cook. K Jeh helped with the business and Tung forgave her. He even fell in love with K Jeh.

Horace was in love with Gabe and tried to break her up with Glenn. Gabe discovered one night that San liked Glenn. She broke up with Glenn and started dating Pierre. Pierre’s uncle became very ill so he decided to make a will. However, he did not leave Horace a lot of his inheritance which made Horace really angry and disappointed. Horace made a fraudulent will. Horace’s uncle discovered that his will has been amended. He asked Horace to come and see him. Horace tried to explain but he would have none of it. Horace accidentally hit his uncle causing him to collapse. Horace disappeared from the scene. Tung was at the scene because he wanted to see Horace’s uncle. The nurse saw Tung holding the weapon and thought that Tung had harmed Horace’s uncle.

Tung was charged with assault. K Jeh hired a solicitor to help Tung. Tung and Sing became friends again and Tung forgave Sing.  Tung did not want to waste time and decided to convince a rich guy to invest in a land to allow unemployed people to start their business. However, K Jeh managed to convince the rich guy to sell the land to her company to earn more money since she was working for Horace. Tung became really disappointed with K Jeh. However, K Jeh was really helping Hei. She wanted to help Hei become substitute director of the company since her husband was in a coma rather than Horace. Horace was suspended from the company and Hei had evidence that Horace was the real attacker. Tung was cleared of all charges.

Horace became really angry and kidnapped Hei and K Jeh. They were locked in a building. Horace phoned Tung and K Jeh left him a hint. They phoned the police and the police went to the place which K Jeh had hinted. K Jeh dropped her diary down the building which San recognised. However, Horace saw the police so he went and got the two women. He had custody of K Jeh and was going to kill her. However, Tung said that he will swap with K Jeh. Tung managed to drag K Jeh out .

The rich guy decided to follow Tung’s idea and rented his land to unemployed people so they can have their own business. The idea was a success and helped many people develop their business. Gabe and Glenn became a couple again since they realised that they loved each other. San realised that Glenn was not really for her. Hei and Sing became a couple and they had a baby together. Hei’s ex-husband recovered from the attack and became the godfather of the child. Tung and K Jeh decided to be brothers and sisters instead.

Awards

Best Female Character: There was not really a female character that I really liked. I suppose Shirley Yeung’s character was quite cute in this series. Gabe (Natalie Tong) was also a pretty good character at the start but she got rather annoying.

Best Male Character: Sing (Benz Hui) I thought he was hilarious in this series. Some of the things he came up with actually made me laugh out loud.

Funniest Character: Sing (Benz Hui) I think this guy is a natural comedian.

Best Couple: Benz and Kiki: this couple was just brilliant together. They are like an old married couple

General Comments

Acting Skills: The cast in this series is made up of experienced actors and actresses. Har Yu, Benz, Christine and Kiki are very good at acting and are very experienced. I think Pierre Ngo has improved a lot in terms of his acting. I thought he did an outstanding job.

Chemistry: There is a lot of good chemistry in this series. I find that Natalie and Sammul have good chemistry and they are so cute together. I also find that Sammul and Shirley are very cute together too.  However, Kiki and Benz has the best chemistry. They are like an old married couple and are so funny together.

Appearance: I think Christine Ng has the best wardrobe in this series. I love her style but not too keen on her hairstyle. I really like Natalie Tong’s hairstyle; I think it really suits her and her character. I found Shirley’s hairstyle a bit too wild although it suited her character’s personality too.

Theme Song: The theme song is quite interesting if you listen closely to the lyrics. It really matches the theme of the series. It is a bit cheesy but it was stuck in my head for a bit.

Overall: The series is about people coming back from failure and eventually gaining success. I guess the moral of the story is that Hong Kong people are strong and they are able to bounce back from failure if they do not give up. I suppose a theme like this is very relevant to today’s economic condition and is an inspiration. Even if it is not an inspiration, it is a good distraction from reality. The series was quite funny. The storyline is not too bad but there are parts which I do find a bit boring and I have skipped a few episodes.

Overall Rating: : This is a very good light hearted series and got quite exciting towards the end. Definitely one to watch.

  1. Agree that Benz Hui is a natural comedian. I really like his performance in any series as he adds a comedic touch to them.

  2. Loved this series. I had zero expectation coming into it and it went beyond what I expected.

Fave characters: Benz, Sheung Tin Ngor, Ha Yu and Christine Ng.

This series was definitely created to promote the experienced cast. The whole story was very well-written.

    =)

  3. I followed every episode religiously! Loved the chemistry among the cast. Everyone was good here, benz, ha yu, christine, kiki. Very funny and entertaining to watch them.

sammul and shirley are also good here. natalie does ok too. their love triangle is quite cute. i was rooting for shirley though i know sammul and natalie will be back together!

  4. Before I watched the series, I thought it was just another modern show.. very funny to watch. The cast really fitted the show. I would recommend people to watch it on their spare time. something light and entertaining.

  5. I didn’t watch all of this as it didn’t appeal to me. But anything with Benz Hui in it is worth a look to me. His a very versatile actor and is top notch in comedies. The rest of the cast is average. They’re competent actors but lack that special attraction. Ha Yu comes close to Benz though.

  6. I haven’t watched it yet, planning to rent it b/c of Benz & Ha Yu. Recently not a big fan of Shirley, i kind of find her loud. I hope when she deliver her lines is not like how she did in Fistful of Stances (over-reacted & loud). I’m not a big fan of Christine too, recently her roles are very similar in personality. Excited to see Natalie taking the lead role.

I hope that Shirley can excel for me in her performance in this series.
