The Many Strengths of Myolie Wu
Some may say that TVB fadan Myolie Wu’s (胡杏兒) acting is flawless, or that she is not as beautiful as the other beauty queens. Nevertheless, it has been 12 years since she first entered the industry and despite the naysayers, she has persevered and her position in the industry remains solid as a rock.
Yardstick of Success
To say that Myolie is strong-willed is an understatement. Myolie put her best in each and every one of her performance. Although winning multiple awards in the industry, Myolie does not use awards or monetary returns as her means of measurement for success. Her idea of success is to be able to enjoy what she is doing and through the process, get to know herself better. Once she knows her own strengths and weaknesses, Myolie will be more adept at making use of them to create more opportunities.
And it was with this resolution that she managed to pull through her biggest sacrifice to-date – gaining 50 pounds to film To Grow with Love < 肥田囍事> in 2006. Myolie also had to quickly lose weight within weeks afterward as beauty and slimness are prerequisites in the highly competitive Hong Kong entertainment industry. Though she put her health at risk, she did not get back the expected rewards in show ratings. However, that did not demoralize Myolie. On the contrary, that only pushed her to strive harder and 5 years later, she earned the title of TV Queen. Even though her work life has not been without difficulties, she only sees each obstacle as a test.
Workaholic
Currently shuffling between China and Hong Kong, Myolie is already used to the different styles of filming in both regions. She would rather busy herself traveling between the two countries than stay home and do nothing. Myolie said, “I’ll go crazy if I don’t work! The most I can go without working is 2 days. More than that and I’ll start to feel uncomfortable.”
Myolie once described herself to be like a cat. Despite the numerous comedies she starred in and her onscreen cheerfulness, Myolie is actually a quiet and reserved person. Myolie may not actively seek friends, but for those few close friends she has, she is loyal and caring. Though she can be compassionate towards friends and even strangers, she is extremely hard on herself. She is not one to cry easily in times of hardship and has high expectation of herself. She also has good self-control and maintains a low profile with few negative gossip.

love myolie’s superwoman strength! she’s a worthy individual to be looked up to as an inspiration! unlike other artistes who cried over merely flirting rumours or get insecure with their appearance and got facial injections, myolie is the strongest of the bunch! except that one breaking press conference, never once myolie cried or burst over her breakup or rumours and she successfully endured so much hardships in her life as an actress especially her drastic weight gain and loss. admire her strength. myolie will always stay strong!

I don’t think Myolie’s acting is flawless or that she’s the most beautiful, but I find that she has great screen presence and I enjoy watching her series. She’s also a very hard worker and I believe she’s the only female artist to make China’s Forbe Top 100 list. The other TVB artists that made it were Raymond Lam and Kevin Cheng.

And how many years does Christine have? And charmine is probably the richest out of all of the names you mentioned so dont go gloating over your misinformation. If you noticed, the Forbe’s list based their ranking on how INFLUENTIAL the artist is, not how wealthy they are. Each of their earnings is even listed on the side LOL
myolie’s not flawless acting but she’s the beat acting among the current fadans and has the best personality and natural face too. She’s also the most versatile. other actresses often stuck only in roles they are best at, but myolie can take different roles.

I think her acting is ok, nothing special. Also, wasn’t she depressed and all that?? Some even wondered if she got the best actress award just because TVB felt sorry for her. It is ok to praise your idol but do not compare and bring others down.

Myolie Wu could be a hard working actress and has a good personality, but I don’t think she has flawless acting. In fact, her acting is very limited to certain characters and she needs to improve her acting skills.
I agree and many artists work hard and have a decent/good personality. However, that does not mean that they are a good actress/actor or is versatile. I found her acting in that series with Jessica really over the top and not good at all, but yet she won best actress for that role?? You must be kidding me… There is always room for improvement for everyone, so it is not just Myolie. Even those decorated veterans still aim to improve themselves since there seems to be no limit to be at your best.
Absolutely agree. Every artiste has room for improvement; this applies to veterans Tony Leung, Chow Yun Fat, Andy Lau, Leung Ka Fai, Cheung Ka Fai, Maggie Cheung Man Yuk, Deanne Ip, Sheren Tang, Ada Choi, etc. and etc. Acting is very abstract and it is not a math formula. No one gets perfect scores in his/her acting. He/she can be good in one movie/drama series and not as good in another one.
If Myolie Wu’s acting is considered flawless, no artiste has flaws in the entertainment industry. She won her Best Actress award in one of her worst drama series “Curse of the Royal Harem”. Myolie was totally no good in acting palace-setting ancient drama series. She speaks too fast in her dialogues.
She might have tried her best, but her acting could still be pretty bad if her acting skills were no good.

I think so. I find that most articles here would favour certain artistes only. There are too many articles about the same artistes, such as Raymond Lam, Linda Chung, Myolie Wu, Kenneth Ma, Tavia Yeung, Fala Chen, Kate Tsui, etc. I could easily find 2 to 3 articles about the same artiste in a week.
This is an entertainment website which in its own have their own target audience which are basically fans of artists listed above. It’s business. More news of those actresses/actors = more views = continuous clicks = $$$.

myolie has news from her endorsement event a few days ago and yesterday kenneth has news about filming skincare commercial! don’t see jaynestars report in those and post the handsome pictures.

Yeah I agree. Myolie is overall a good person but her acting wise has dropped these recent years. No offense she was undeserving for winning BA especially with that role, that was one of her worst ones like someone else pointed out. It was a wrong time for her, as a villain in that series I just didn’t felt much sense of any evil from her but rather annoyingly cunning.
I wouldn’t say she’s the most versatile out of the current FaDans, I would put Kate in that category since she did got to portray a lot of varieties of roles especially these recent years. Myolie is most experienced lately but her acting has always remained the same to me, I really enjoyed her earlier works more than her recent ones, I don’t even remember her last series that I watched thoroughly.
Sure she works hard but so does everyone else we shouldn’t make uncessary comparisons. Being financially successful doesn’t prove they’re more talented or better than anyone it just proves she gets more opportunities.

I love reading your comments on Myolie Wu. They were well said and justified. I never liked Myolie’s acting, but I like her as a person and her professionalism (to have her hair cut really short to act her character in TITS 2).
I hope she will work hard on her acting skills and deserve a true TV Queen title.

I had always say my dearest Myolie is the best of the best. No matter what she is doing or making or performing she is good and the best. Just has to look she is the only one if tvb female artist that is in the 100 forbe awards. And charmaine at this moment…no comment. Btw Myolie Wu is the best and I always 4ever support her. Love her
Myolie is not perfect in her acting nor anyone else for that matter, but I feel that she is very sincere re her work and always gives her best to anything she does. I suppose that is why she and Kevin can hit it off so well. I find her dressing most elegant and she looks super in what she wears too. I’d give her my support anytime.
