TVB Artists Divided Over TV Queen Race
The clear winner for this year’s TVB Best Actress award has not emerged yet. As online communities remain deeply divided over which actress should receive the high-profile TV Queen, TVB artists interestingly were also split into major camps for Kate Tsui (徐子珊), Myolie Wu (胡杏兒), Tavia Yeung (楊怡), and Michelle Yim (米雪).
TVB artists expressed their personal choices for TV Queen, appearing to base their selections primarily on past drama collaborations or personal friendships, rather than neutral assessments of acting performances this year.
With TVB announcing that this year’s Anniversary Award winners will be based on a one person, one vote system, will audiences vote from the heart instead of with their eyes as well?
Kate Tsui’s Supporters:
Raymond Lam (林峯): Of course, I will support Kate. When I first read the script for Highs and Lows <雷霆掃毒>, I could not imagine anyone other than Kate who can fully carry out this role. Honestly, she did a superb job.
Ella Koon (官恩娜): Kate all the way! She taught me a lot during filming and helped me get into character.
Michelle Yim’s Supporters:
Wayne Lai (黎耀祥) : I am biased towards Michelle. Obviously we all know that she can act, but she was exceptional in portraying Empress Dowager Cixi’s dominant characteristics in The Confidant <大太監>. Michelle took my breath away when she stepped out in full makeup and costume.
Eric Tsang (曾志偉) : I support Michelle because she is a veteran actress.
Koo Ming Wah (古明 華): I hope Michelle wins!
Myolie: I heard that Michelle was really good as Empress Dowager Cixi. The role gave her lots of opportunity to showcase her acting. I won’t think much about the award for myself. I’m happy just to be nominated.
Myolie Wu’s Supporter:
Kevin Cheng (鄭嘉穎) : My partner-in-crime Myolie! But honestly, I haven’t watched the other series.
Tavia Yeung’s (楊怡) Supporter:
Sharon Chan (陳敏之): Since Myolie won before, I hope it goes to Tavia!

I know it’s a scene from the actual series. But I figured that the Tavia parts were shown in sequence? That’s why it was so jarring. One moment, she’s like quiet and depressed, the next she’s behaving like a hysterical looney.
Her stans always praise her for her crying scenes. Personal, I thought they were good in the past when she did it in moderation and when it was appropriate. But since BTROC, she’s just gone completely OTT with it and takes me out of a scene every single time. Gosh, she was so obnoxious in MOL And BTROC!

Last year, we had a “Best of TVB Awards” where readers gave out points for the best performances in multiple categories.
Niki Chow and Kevin Cheng were voted Best Actress and Best Actor.
We will try to do the same poll this year, although have not planned all the details yet.

I support Myolie or Michelle Yim. Tavia shouldn’t made the cut in the first place with the mundane acting she showed in On Call 26 Hours. It was a waste to watch Kenneth Ma doing his best and Tavia doing a mediocre job next to him.
For Best Actor, it should be Kevin the best. Law Ba is legendary for Kevin other than 8th Prince. Raymond Lam, Bosco Wong and Kenneth Ma can fight for the second place.

I think TVB intends to have Kate win, which explains why has been getting SO MUCH press for her ~breakthrough~ performance in HAL. Kate did improve on her acting, but her character Pat is very mediocre.
Pat is a great character. Very tragic, sympathetic and dramatic. She went through a lot of difficulties in her life and I read that her ending is very tragic too.
No, Txb dun have the intention to make Kate the winner and also dun have any plan to make HAL the big thing. Look, they gave wat to HAL? 4 days of postpone for the ending of Steep (ok, normal and understandable) and 2 first eps of SSSS (wow, the first time ever) and 2 last eps on Sunday from 9 to 11 (prolly will affect rating). So Txb is trying to pull down HAL is clearer than letting it win.
2 Hours ending of HAL for Sunday is good. The bad one is if Saturday.
I heard Eileen Cha declared openly that she will use her vote for Kate.
The next day to Saturday is Sunday – weekend. The next day to Sunday is Monday – working day. And why dun each eps each day like DID or just took some time of SSSS for HAL? SSSS can air on Sat or Sun I don’t mind at all, but it dun lose any day.
And I call it’s the different treatment.
It won’t affect anything because all the news from beginning of HAL until now are all praising Kate highly and condemn Tavia, so Kate still has upper hand although TVB will rig it for Tavia.
If the rating of HAL dun get too high, Txb can use it as an excuse for everything. I still doubt that Kate can win even if she is better than someone. Maybe if SSSS is a flop, Txb will play the safe game to give it to Michelle.
I don’t recall having this many articles and tweets about praising Tavia’s acting in SSSS compared to Kate in HAL. These Kate articles were churning out even before HAL aired.
SSSS and TC are anniversary dramas. It makes sense if they get special treatment, and I think TVB wants these dramas to compete for Best Drama.
And TVB can be greedy. They probably have intentions for either Tavia and Kate to win, so they will sit back, relax, get their popcorn ready and see who wins in this cat fight.
TC dun have the special treatment to take any eps from SSSS.
The praises to Kate started from the second week of HAL, you rmb wrongly.
TVB needs to push one more fadan up. If SSSS flops, TVB has safety net from Kate’s almost 100% praises from practically every news outlet in HK and can crown Kate. lol
While Tavia right now has almost 100% condemnation articles which I suspect is TVB’s tactic to make her a conversation point among HK housewives.
Whoever wins between Tavia or Kate is a win for TVB, but I do believe it must be between this two. I don’t think they will give Michelle with TVB’s current desperation to create another top fadan to fight CTI.
